Kenny Rogers is one of the greatest all time story tellers in music history. He also was the lead of a pop band in the 70s called Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. You should check out What Condition my Condition Was In
Oh, wow. I'd completely forgotten about this song. I heard it when I was a little kid. Loved it - not only because of the gentleness of Kenny Roger's voice and his wonderful way of story telling but because my dad grew up rough in the South being very poor and w/out a dad (apparently my grandpa was not a nice man and actually died in jail). And, while my dad was a big man, trying to be a better man than his own dad, we saw him turn the other cheek in tough situations more than once. Respect. Glad I came across your video. Watching your reaction to it brought back feelings of the first time I heard it myself.
There is a man who was known as Red Sovine who did more of a spoken word song called 'Teddy Bear' that was from C.B. radio days when trucking songs were popular. There are several he did that had pretty good stories behind them.
Country singers are the BEST at story telling. There are so many GREATS to choose from if you don't listen to country regularly. I grew up on on 60's & 70's country and came back to it in the 90's. I had a little rebellion in the 80's, but country is still my all time favorite 😁
A good life lesson. Favorite line is "you could have heard a pin drop when Tommy stopped and locked the door.' As clear as a bell when that was said. As clear as Hardy's line "wait in the truck". You just know it is "fixin" to be handled.
I like how you noticed the way the first and last lines of the song, while they were the exact same words in the exact same order, changed their meaning drastically. At the beginning of the song, they were just a description of how the people around Tommy saw him. At the end of the song, those same words were used to describe how they USED to see him, and that they know far better now.
Kenny recorded some terrific story songs. Harry Chapin and Gordon Lightfoot, too. And Dan Fogelberg. One of my favourite story songs is Dan's Tucson, Arizona (Gazette)...
Wonderful reaction. His song called - The Greatest is another very powerful story. If you haven't heard His duet with Dolly parton called - Islands In The Stream ; maybe just give it a listen - maybe not for a reaction but just to hear the song.
Love this song and Kenny is a Legend of country music. I just have to wonder though.. Did Kenny Rogers have a falling out with Larry Gatlin somewhere along the line? Oh yeah Ace.. great reaction keep 'em coming
I’ve seen Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin brothers several times and they always tell that they were not the ones associated with this song and tried to get Kenny to change the name but he wouldn’t
Kenny had a lot of great songs but this one will always be one of my favorites for the sheer story telling. Tommy's dad did not want him fighting because he was in prison for killing a guy in a bar fight and didn't want Tommy going to prison as well.
Yes finally thank you do you know this story thank you thank you thank you some reacting people can't pick up on what happened can you pick up on what happened shadow
Kenny Rogers didn't sing a song about rape, he sang about how a young man grew peacefully, and was forced to respond to the rape of a loved one. The sexual assault wasn't dwelt on, or even crudely mentioned.
His dad "died in prison." And he had the chance to meet Tommy and tell him "son, my life is over," so it wasn't some jail fight or other sudden cause. He was getting the chance to see his family before being executed. Which means he killed someone. The implication is that he did it in some fit of temper or ego, and did not want the same tendency to get his son into the same position.
Hey buddy. You have to listen mr Kenny Rogers song MORNING DESIRE.. Mr Rogers was in the heights of a chart crossing career that was assisted greatly by another legendary artist Mr Lionel Richie. The video is pretty as well
Love your reactions. You mentioned that you said you were filling like want to be a Cowboy so I have a suggestion, react to I Wanna Be A Cowboy by Boys Don't Cry.
If you get a chance please check out his song The Greatest. It has a great twist at the end and always reminds me of my son when he was little. Great reaction!! 😊
You didn't mention what those "Gaitlen boys" did to Becky, and why Tommy stood up to the.. Perhaps re-listen on your own... Kenny Rodgers is an awesome story teller, and one of the few county artists that I appreciated in my youth... Peace
3:05 the word ur looking for describe his voice is “calmness” cause “soft” just does not fit his deepish yet calm relaxed voice… you should check out the song Teddy Bear by Red Sovine

Powerful song. Remembering hearing this on the radio as a child. No storyteller like Kenny.

I ahree 100%
They turned this into a made-for-TV movie starring Kenny as Tommy's uncle.
I thought I remembered that!
You can watch it on TH-cam for free - it is a good movie

He has a smooth voice. this is one of my favorites of his.
Yes it's one of my favorite songs 😍😍
His voice is very calming.
Great song by a great singer. Love the melody and yeah, the rhythm.
A good life lesson. Favorite line is "you could have heard a pin drop when Tommy stopped and locked the door.' As clear as a bell when that was said. As clear as Hardy's line "wait in the truck". You just know it is "fixin" to be handled.
Yea, that part is chilling. you know what's coming
BTW, the term you're looking for is "key change" 1:51
Another great story teller. Red Sovein. TEDDY BEAR, ROSES FOR MAMA. and yes 70s just hut different, so diversity era
Sovine, not Sovein. Red was interesting in that he didn't really sing songs, he narrated them...a literal storyteller.
Another great story song by him is "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town"
He was a great story teller. You might also like Rueben James.
A great great artist! Great reaction.
"If you can" "When you can" 2 very important distinctions. Sometimes you cant. You have to know the difference
Yup…difference between knowledge…and wisdom. Knowing you can. And knowing when you should.
This song still makes me cry
The songs he does have a way of making you see the scene as the song plays out He had a real talent for these storytelling songs
A song so good they made a movie of it in the 80s. Very well done and available on TH-cam.
Some things are worth fighting for.

The Gatlin Brothers was a popular country group and friends of Kenny's. He included them in the song as a sort of in-joke.
Ty great song and i grew up with 70s,80s,90s Country Music,

Great song and good message.

Big hit in the day
Your smile makes me believe in humanity!
Its interesting to see when people get what "took turns at Becky" implied.
find his live performance with his band The First Edition ...
Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town

Check out Rusty Wier’s “I heard you been laying my ol lady” country comedy at its best
You should try "Ruby" from when he was with the First Edition.
Kenny Rogers "Lady" or "The Gambler"
3 others from Kenny Rogers is Twenty Years ago, Superman, You decorate my life.
That was called a " key change" when they step to a higher pitch.
A couple other great story songs are THE LONG ARM OF THE LAW and RHE TOMB OF THE UNLOWN LOVE
You should try Something Inside So Strong and Planet Texas from the album Something Inside So Strong.
My favorite song of Kenny Roger’s is Buy Her a Rose
He wasn't locked in with them. They were locked in with him.
These days you''d never get away with singing a song about rape.
Kenny Rogers didn't sing a song about rape, he sang about how a young man grew peacefully, and was forced to respond to the rape of a loved one. The sexual assault wasn't dwelt on, or even crudely mentioned.
The song that got me through 7th grade.

You need to watch the movie, another Kenny Roger's story that you should check out is long arm of the law
If you get a chance please check out his song The Greatest. It has a great twist at the end and always reminds me of my son when he was little. Great reaction!! 😊
React to Lucille. It's complicated
For a funny song check out Bobby Bear. The Winner.
You need to dive more into Kenny
Please watch Michael Winslow. "Led zeppelin"
You didn't mention what those "Gaitlen boys" did to Becky, and why Tommy stood up to the.. Perhaps re-listen on your own... Kenny Rodgers is an awesome story teller, and one of the few county artists that I appreciated in my youth... Peace

I subbed to your channel because you go off the "norms" a fair bit.
Great tune!
70s rule
He shot them
Where is the sound
Brother you don't have a clue.
Sweetie, did you even listen to the lyrics? From your reaction you would think you just heard a funny or upbeat song. 🥴🤦♀️
Another artist that I think you would like is Aaron Tippin. You've Got To Stand For Something is one of my favorites from him
That is a good song!
