    This is so cool! Great idea by Eufy to combine 2 products into 1! Eufy has honestly been on a roll with their products so much so that they are currently my #1 recommended brand of home security and some automations for someone that doesn't want to pay monthly fees.

    Excited about this one. I currently have a Lockly vision on my front door (lock and camera combined), and while the lock is the best I've ever used, the camera is a complete joke. Not only does it not have PIR so it only turns on if someone touches the lock, but it also fails to load the live stream 90% of the time. I keep it around because it has 8 AA batteries so it lasts like 1.5 years, but the camera part is totally worthless.

      I actually have the lockly vision too but haven’t set it up but I will eventually compare it with this video doorbell. That sucks if there is no motion detection on the lockly.

    This is genius if you don’t have a storm door or doorbell. I have the smart lock with built in wifi and I love it. This may be good for a garage side or back door. I wish someone would make a sliding glass door smart lock.

    This seriously need to be able to connect and work with the EuFy Security Homebase. Hope they release a version, without the chime, for the homebase. And they should also add support for connect it to old doorbell power, like the doorbell they already have.
    Also, I hope that rubberized areas will be replaced with just smooth metal, since such rubber is known to turn into sticky goo after some years.
    Thanks for a very good overview!

    That’s a pretty impressive lock. I’d have to get a new door to install it as my current door doesn’t have a deadbolt (has big window and is really old). I wonder if you’d be able to set up a routine with home assistant to automate it. Like going to bed or leaving home to auto lock. As always great video. Thanks for sharing. 👍

    This looks like it will be a decent product. If Eufy could add a bottom camera for package detection, that would be a super impressive all-in-one product. Since I already have Eufy's Smart Lock Touch & Wifi and their video doorbell, I doubt I will get this. If I didn't already have those, I might consider the final product. I look forward to LifeHackster's full upcoming review about this.

      I know from experience that Eufy's Wifi video doorbell has a horrible battery life with motion detection enabled (even on their most optimal setting). So if this is anything like that, I would say it may need to be recharged monthly -- which may not be ideal... but on the plus side, if Eufy sells replacement rechargeable batteries, having two would make it easy to switch out over having to completely remove a separate video doorbell to recharge. Plus, it can easily be done from inside the home.

    • @curtisbme
      @curtisbme 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But of course the nice thing vs external cameras and battery powered doorbells is that the battery is on the inside and quickly accessible so you don't even need to go outside to charge/replace. If they sell a second battery it would be a very minor inconvenience to swap them out however many months it lasts.

    • @databang
      @databang 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, that could be said about anything with a rechargeable battery. How long should a battery life for a doorbell last before needing a recharge would be acceptable. Personally, 6-12 months avg and cognizant software that detailed the battery life would be fine for me.

    • @chrissampson7569
      @chrissampson7569 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@databang Using Eufy's automation workaround of turning off the video doorbell's motion detection and instead adding a motion sensor to trigger the doorbell's camera extended the battery's life. Now it needs to be charged about every 4-5 months -- not quite 6-12, but much better than monthly.

      I thought about that too. I don't have a storm door, but I feel this wouldn't be for those who do. I don't know of too many strangers who would open a storm door to press a doorbell. I have the Eufy smart lock with wifi and I have no interest in switching to this product. The standard Eufy smart lock is built like a tank and it will likely offer better security protection from thieves who would use a sledge hammer to try to break it off the door. I also have the Eufy 2K doorbell and I am betting that it has more complete video than this lock/doorbell combination, even though this one has a 160 degree field of view.
    If someone steals my Eufy video doorbell, it won't affect me much - I have other exterior cameras. But if they breach the lock, they gain entrance to my home. The standard Eufy lock is probably the most secure smart lock on the market against thieves and it also can be opened by a key if there is an emergency. I think it is superior to this product.

    • @stinger15au
      @stinger15au 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If someone is brining a sledge hammer, no home level security is going to matter.
      At the end of the day, if someone want's into a regular home, they can get it. As long as you are alerted to it and have video of it, then that's all you can do.

    • @franklong6269
      @franklong6269 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stinger15au You are stating the obvious. The idea is to slow criminals down to the point that they don't choose your home.
      My home was robbed and I had reinforced my doors deadbolts. They tried to kick in my door and they couldn't. So they broke a window in the backyard. Examining how they robbed the house, it was clear that it was a "crash and grab." It was easy to see that the thiefs were in a hurry. They probably didn't spend 10 minutes in the house.
      I have since added exterior and interior security cameras. They won't stop a thief, but they do sound sirens.
      My point about the Eufy lock is that it was tested by Consumer Reports for resistance to blunt force, and it performed very well. So you're wrong in a sense, because if doors are properly reinforced, it is not easy to get through them. But you need a tough deadbolt assembly and the Eufy assembly is VERY strong. Most thieves won't carry a sledgehammer to a robbery for obvious reasons. Like my home, they will try to kick the door in. My neighbor's house across the street was robbed and they kicked in his FRONT door in broad daylight. They won't kick any of my exterior doors in. It won't stop thieves, but it will slow them down and that might make all the difference in the world.
      The Eufy smart lock is the strongest, most well designed smart lock on the market right now. It is that good. The Yale, Kwickset and Schage smart locks probably are as strong, but they are not nearly as well designed.

    I did reach out to the Kickstarter and told them that I like this concept but I also gave some input as to what would’ve been nice with this 3rd Generation smart lock. I think having a door sense feature that Yale Lock has which allows the user to know whether the door is slightly opened so you’ll know if the door is securely locked or not. The door could be wide open and the auto lock feature could initiate and your thinking the door is locked when in fact it’s not. Also, I’m not entirely certain about this but I think you can use the home base as a chime as well but I’m hoping that your able to unlock the door from afar if your not home, and to have a secondary camera would be nice just like the one they released for the doorbell possibly as a option or maybe a better lens to be able to pick up packages last well as the people. And a 4K camera since 4K is now the standard to me just like when 1080P was the standard. We’re shifting to 8K now and I think in a year or so 8K will be even more mainstream and affordable.

    It will not work in the EU unfortunately. Too bad, looks good.

    Apparently this doesn't work with Homekit secure video, nor does it have a bottom camera, so looks like a pass for me. Hopefully @LifeHackster can test this behind a storm door to see how the camera works.
    Last, how is Eufy securing my fingerprint? Is it being stored in the cloud? Is it encrypted on the device? Apple went through significant efforts to ensure that fingerprints are secured when they added Touch ID. Eufy isn't very transparent about the details on their "military-grade security" from what I can tell.

    The only reason I would not buy it is if the battery lasts as little as the one for the door bell, the door bell dies extremely fast.

    It’s delayed again and ppl on kickstarter are jumping ship. This channel should consider taking down this review or at least updating the description to the current conditions of the product

    Have to disagree. I have a deeper door frame and the camera loses a third of its picture due to the frame. I do not advise purchasing this product for the camera.

      The frame will appear if you have a door frame equal to or greater than 2 inches

    Think you could talk a little faster next time. Got tired of backing up every time you described a function, at warp speed, and turned the whole thing off.

    Wow they missed a massive security flaw meaning someone can reasonably easily open your front door!
    Someone outside can bring their own wifi bridge, reset the lock and pair it to their own wifi bridge, then simply unlock the door 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️
    Such a security risk having both the reset button on the outside, and the setup procedure performed on the outside.
    No one should be using this lock until they address those issues! It simply isn’t safe.

      You need access to the internal door unit to pair a device, meaning having a external bridge is useless
