    I had the first gen of the Yale for 10 years, replaced it last night with the no key option (YRD450). My gen 1 was starting to look bad, too much wear. Sun faded the screen and casing was changing color. Looking forward to 10 more years with this one.

    To make this device better I recommend:
    1. Build two additional battery ports to put 2 more pairs of batteries that engage when previous set drains.
    2. add an upward camera like the Ring device so you can see the instant anyone touches the device.
    3. Put a protective slide up cover to protect against the weather if device placed outside
    4. add a biometric feature so you can use your finger print to open as an option to the key pad

    I like the idea of the option with a key and the Wi-Fi. Except for the shortened battery life. I really wish it had an indication on the front of the device that the deadbolt was extended. I can't tell you how many times I've extended the deadbolt when trying to enter the passcode.

      You don’t need the Wi-Fi module for HomeKit. The locks bluetooth will connect to your home hub (Apple TV or HomePod) and give you access remotely. I can confirm this works as I’m currently using the Yale assure 2 with Apple home without the Wi-Fi module.

    I have the Access 2 with buttons and I am having nothing but problems. Door sense fails to calibrate 75% of the time. I've had to calibrate the lock itself and door sense multiple times. The app does not recognize the correct status of the lock. And the icing on the cake is that the PIN does not unlock the lock. I checked it multiple times in the app and I am positive I am entering the correct PIN. I am going to return it tomorrow.

If you pull the batteries it works again. I have submitted a trouble report and they are still working on it. It’s been 6 weeks without a follow up. Seems their server to the app is the issue. At random times this lock makes an alerting sound. Yale said we should press the "yale" button first, but still happens when the "yale" button is pressed before entering code. When the door makes this alerting noise the lock will only unlock manually. Which is frustrating me and family when simply leaving for 10 mins to walk the dog. Yales tells me dismantle the door, and unplug and plug in a white cord to reset the lock, but it still happens. Thank goodness more then one person is home when this happens, but I have to replace it as my wife, and my teenagers have no confidence in this lock that continues to lock them out of the house.

      Giving out your main WiFi password is a bad security practice in general. That gives people too much control over your home network, and even if they’re not intentionally malicious, you never know if their devices might be infected with some kind of malware that could spread to other devices on your network. You should enable the guest network on your router and give guests the password for that. This only gives them internet access without being able to see any devices on your main network.

    I have the original nest Yale lock and my two biggest issues are the fact that you cannot add a passcode for a single lock. So if you want to create a passcode for somebody they have access to your house, your garage, your utility room and so on, If you have more than one lock. That seems kind of ridiculous. But anyway. The other main issue is that I have five locks and one is on its own nest connect. This one lock repeatedly goes offline whenever the batteries run out or there's a power loss. In either scenario I must remove the lock and re-add the lock.

    How does this work with multiple occupants in the house? Can all Apple Watches open the lock? What if I want the lock to be locked even when we are home to prevent intruders?

    I'm guessing most of the features don't work without the app, i.e. z-wave and home assistant setup? Having the lock to your home connected to the cloud sounds insane to me.

      I did find the Yale website shows an Assure lock SL with matter support. Does not work with their app though so those functions are limited.
      They also show an Assure 2 Lock with Zwave+ support. Wonder if it has the same features

    You failed to mentioned the POS Bluetooth Module is NG so the app. won't work with Google Pixel 8 Pro. Also, it wouldn't fit my door either. Guessing Yale needs to release the Version 3 pretty quickly.

    Avoid this lock. It has an issue with falsely triggering the tamper sensor thus preventing the use from locking the lock via keypad until power is cycled.

  • @bennym1956

    A lock is only as good as the weakest point of your house defense. How many windows do you have in you house ??? Depending on the locking mechanism, you can be in a house under 30 seconds w/o breaking a window with just a screwdriver. Security is a state of mind !

    • @chriskelvin248
      @chriskelvin248 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're not wrong about that. But the point of this lockset is to add convenience and flexibility offered by remote electronics without necessarily making it easier to break in that one door. Not to make the house harder to break into.

    • @mikejoseph425
      @mikejoseph425 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      Red means no entry or stop and green means go. I think they got it right if colour coded. They could have used open / closed to cut out any confusion

    • @George_us
      @George_us ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @mikejoseph425 They may have the correct colors, but there is no obvious relationship between a lock icon/photo and a red circle and/or a green / green broken donut circle. I am not even going to mention why they have two exactly Yale / August apps (besides just confusing users).

      Red typically represents armed in terms of security so it seems right.
