    I think the battery version is the better buy for a few reasons.
    1. You will eventually get HB3 support and with that you will have expandable storage, better AI, and if someone takes your doorbell your storage is safe in your home
    2. If your home loses power your doorbell will keep working
    3. You can connect your existing wiring (if you have them) to the battery version and continuously top off the battery so you won't have to charge it.

      Ouhouhhh!!!! I think the same. However as this one does not come with a Chimes, if you connect the battery powered version to the wired system, will it works with the home chimes? Yeah, why can’t the wired version just use existing chime? Why do I need the wireless chime plugged into an outlet?

    • @Capturing-Memories
      @Capturing-Memories ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@unclerojelio6320 It's a stupid economical decision to save on adding an extra wire terminal, because the existing chime would reduce the power requirement for the camera if hooked up in series with the transformer like most wired doorbells are supposed to work, so they force you to short out the chime, therfore disabling it. But with an extra wire terminal you could power the camera directly from the transformer and the extra terminal is used to energize the existing chime.

      @irishRocker1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, A wired version that connects to homebase so your files are safe and can support the existing chime would be perfect. Or if the battery one could match the wired pre roll and cooldown while wired would be great too and prob something they could fix in firmware

    The delay in notification to your phone is because, although it is your Homebase that the doorbell communicates with, the Homebase contacts the corporate servers so that your smart phone can be informed by the corporate servers and of course any streaming is related through the corporate servers to your Homebase or from the cloud subscription, this is due to the numerical IO translation a router would do (which can be bypassed for select devices and services on the routers advanced administration or bypassed by the application through UPnP which really you should disable as viruses can use that protocol too) and your mobile is expected to be outside your home network. There is probably a timeout such that the corporate servers will ignore the second doorbell press notification from your Homebase as it would just assume it is a bounce hence the lack of response from pressing the other doorbell. We used to have to put denounce wait loops in all our programs back in the 70's and earlier but now it's all in the libraries so the debounce timeout might not even be intentional by the application programmers.

    Thanks for showing the notifications.
    Wired outdoor + rich notifications + local backup on SD/SSD (24/7 for 1-7 days) + HomeKit native = always best.
    I need to be able to monitor the streams/recordings through my AppleTV with Siri, but not necessarily record on HKSV.
    Edit: Also, if an outdoor camera is wireless, users should be able to plug it to waterproof USB/AC + smart plug + schedule.

      @ScottSchramm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are there any products that meet the criteria you have listed?

    • @shadow.banned
      @shadow.banned 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ScottSchramm The Eufy C24/P24 have what I need but it's not outdoor rated/waterproof.
      The Aqara G2H/G3 also have what I need, but it's also not outdoor rated. This is a recurring theme.
      Apple seems to think customers only want indoor nanny cameras.
      The solution is a standard wired outdoor PoE camera + HomeBridge or Home Assistant or Scrypted + NAS.
      For doorbells, none offer the specific options I've listed above.
      The Ubiquiti or Amcrest might work. But the Ubiquiti requires a $200-500 controller and mods.
      The two most reliable doorbells are Google Nest and Amazon Ring, and they require cloud subscriptions and modifications to use with Homekit. They do not allow local backup. Most people just buy the Logitech doorbell (as long as it's in the shade).
      Apple doesn't make it easy (anymore) to just do what you want.

    The video is much clearer both at day & night with the wired over the battery. So even if you wired in the battery it would still be blocky & less responsive as its the battery that still powers it. This is the same with the Ring Pro 2 & the battery Ring 4. What Eufy need to do is make the wired doorbell compatible with the Homebase storage inside the house so you still have footage even if someone steals the doorbell.

  • @DwFritz23
    @DwFritz23 2 ปีที่แล้ว +56

    I don't understand the thinking that the product developers at Eufy utilize. The wired version should work with the existing chime! It makes no sense that the battery operated one does and the wired one doesn't, that is literally backwards of how it should be. Also, why would they make the battery operated one work with homebase and not the wired? Eufy saves room removing the battery, why remove the wifi connect ability to homebase also? Again, that is literally backwards of how it should be. They deliberately made the wired version have faults that it doesn't need to have. It's like they don't want to make a product that does everything well, it's so self-sabotaging. Those lithium batteries are not good for the environment, the mining nor the disposing, so Eufy should be promoting the wired version more and making it better than the battery version but nope, they nerf the wired version instead to make a better product worse so their battery version looks better than it is.

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The battery version can trickle charge off the old mechanical doorbell wiring of 24 VAC (older homes can have this down as low as 9 VAC) but that's only because the battery can handle high peak loads when streaming. The wired version can draw enough current to act as a closed circuit to trigger the mechanical doorbell even when the doorbell has not been pressed so it either needs a separate power supply from the traditional wiring or have the mechanical chime disconnected or simply have high powered features such as WiFi out. At least that's my take from my battery version that's wired in showing a battery drop if I stream for a long period of time.

    I bought the Eufy Dual Doorbell 2K in February this year knowing that the software release was due in March 2023 so that the doorbell will then work with Homebase. 3. There's nothing worse than having two home bases and a doorbell that can't recognize familiar faces. I got an email today from Eufy stating that there will be no firmware update for this doorbell for the next 2 to 3 months. I, along with many other customers, would feel very let down with this new information.

    I’m presently using the original battery doorbell with Homebase 2 and hard wired with a plug-in transformer. I’m thinking of upgrading to the dual camera version, and it would seem sensible to go for the battery version again, which you can buy as an ‘add-on’ and hard wire it, which means I can still use the existing Homebase. Also means that I can eventually convert the Homebase 2 to a Homebase 3 as and when the Dual becomes compatible.

    I have the S330 wired but won’t be keeping because: The S330 wired is only compatible with the chime that comes with it and not compatible with Eufy’s “Add-On Chime”. The only way to get a compatible chime for the S330 wired is to purchase another S330 cam & chime kit. The S330 will support up to 4 chimes but you would have to buy 4 S330 kits to get them. Also the S330 wired is not compatible with the Eufy Homebase 3.

    So, I have the original wired single camera for the front door. I moved it to the back door. I was undecided on the dual wired vs. the dual battery. I went with the dual battery as it would get charged via wires and home base would store the video. This would have also allowed other Eufy wireless to utilize the home base. I regret the decision I think, and should have went with the wired dual. Unfortunately, I bought it discounted on Prime day. While I can return it, I won't get the discount on the wired version. I bought the dual lens model that can be wired or run off battery in July 2022 and have it integrated off a Homebase II and three 2C cameras. It has NOT met my satisfaction. A problem is that the sun shines into the lens through half the day so you cannot ID faces - just a dark area surrounded by bright sky. I need to move it to the other side of the door - easier said than done. The major issue is the delay in notifications. Usually more than 20 seconds and lately close to 45 to 60 seconds. Tried so many tips from various forums to resolve the issue, rebooting the cam & the Homebase, checking WiFi strength, etc etc etc. Also, Eufy needs to put some kind of indicator on the bell button so people push it instead of the lens. Had to wipe the chocolate off the lens after last Haloween.

      @@wesleyruiz2188 Nothing from the MFG has been noted to correct the issues I've had. But.... I've moved the cam to the other side of the door where a wall blocks the direct rays of the sun onto the cam. Now it seems to detect persons coming into view much more quickly and at a further distance away. So, it is more reliable now.
      I can speculate that the AI Human recognition function is working better with light being shone on people from a side angle rather than more or less directly behind or from, at most an off angle of about 45 degrees. Faces in shadow are problematic perhaps. Unfortunately, on the other side of the door I have no access to the doorbell wires so the cam is running off battery and its' battery requires more frequent charging than the 2C cams I also have in the system. I think it is just coincidence that taking it off a wired connection improved the response - the improved response is due the repositioning.
      There is still almost never a notification to my phone within 15 seconds. But it is better. However, one behaviour still seems unchanged - it does not recognized UPS delivery persons. I'm thinking with their brown uniforms the cam thinks they are a large dog or cow. I will have to test "All Motions" mode now - with the previous location a hanging basket triggered the cam when the wind gets too strong.

    Hey Lifehackster! I have a complaint regarding Wyze products for you to investigate. It might be possible that other consumers have the same issue as I've experienced. It has to do with the Cam Plus service. I have owned the wireless video doorbell and lock. When I initially installed and activated each device, they worked great with no issues. Wyze kept promoting the Cam Plus service so I agreed. Well, the devices worked great before then and I received notifications all the time. The lock would unlock automatically when arriving home. Now. since I agreed to Cam Plus, I no longer receive those notifications and the door lock doesn't automatically unlock when set in the Wyze app. Does anyone else have this problem?

      I've had the Eufy Dual battery for 2 weeks now. I have the motion sensitivity at max and set to all motion. Haven't got a single false detection and it hasn't missed any events that I'm aware of. I wired it so it tops off the battery. Even with the recordings set to 2 mins per event and frequent triggers it always stays around 100 percent. Very pleased over the previous Eufy doorbell I had that gave me lots of false triggers.

    Dude... I've been really really irritated with the Eufy doorbells. I don't know what on earth is happening but their doorbell ring notifications are not working properly. I did some testing and found that when it doesn't detect motion first, the doorbell ring typically works alright. When it detects motion first, it will notify me of the motion but if someone then tries to ring the doorbell I get nothing... NOTHING! Imagine if Ring's hardware was as good as Eufy's... I don't think there would be a better system out there.

    I have a Eufy door bell and wireless cameras. LOL, what a mistake.
    After having a NEST, Ecobee, Philips lights and the Eufy, I have learned the hard way never to buy any "cloud" appliance. The bases of the Eufy and and Philips appliances are deprecated. I can't upgrade them because their apps no longer recognize them and I can no longer access old apps to transfer their control to another phone/tablet. The Nest had no user serviceable part and died unceremoniously and the ecobee freaks out if it loses an internet connection to its mother ship, never mind that the wifi is just fine.
    All of this and the apps scrape all the user data they can to send back to corporate momma which they moentize and to top it off, they put ads in their apps.
    Yeeeah, no. No cloud anything in my house ever again.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, If you want any features that you can control remotely or give you notifications to your phone…basically the “smart” features of any device, it needs a cloud server. They have to connect to the internet. It doesn’t matter what brand you have. We also live now in a “planned obsolescence” world..where manufacturers make products that doesn’t last 3-5 years and no user serviceable parts..perfect example is your TV or smart TV.

    • @Bob-Fields
      @Bob-Fields ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LifeHackster Thank you for your reply. Respectfully, I disagree with your assertion about features that one can control remotely. While it can be difficult to set up a secure connection to devices outside one's network, it is not impossible and, on the plus side, it puts the impetus on the user to justify such a connection to begin with. Eufy especially has shown that they are not to be trusted with securing their users' data. There are also several good alternatives to the devices I mentioned that work well in such networks without the need to put up with planned obsolescence or connecting to a third server for functionality.
      While one can make the argument that these items offer convenience, I would counter that when these appliances are deprecated, I am left with nothing to show for my expenditures while the manufacturer, conveniently, has my data and my money. We should not reward manufacturers' bad behavior.
      The lost investment due to my hasty foray into cloud appliances spurred to me look at what I really want and whether those items are worth my money and trouble. They are not.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bob-Fields Anytime you use an app on your phone to connect remotely, you connect to a server somewhere (AWS) to verify your credentials. If you go the old traditional route using your web browser typing in your static IP and the port on your router that you opened up…you can gain access remotely but I’m not sure where you are getting your real time notifications…email? (delayed) I haven’t found a system yet that will text me or call me if motion or a sensor got triggered.

    Love your videos LifeHackster : 1) I agree with you about the criticisms you raised re the wired dual doorbell having the local storage on the phone, not in the Homebase like the battery version of the dual camera or the single camera battery version. 2) I definitely would prefer being able to use my existing mechanical chime like the single camera battery version, I don't see why the dual or single camera wired version doesn't give you this capability. 3) The far faster notification on the wired version of the dual camera is the very reason why you buy one of these things so that eliminates the battery version for me. But : unless or until the dual camera has a Homebase for local storage and allows me to use my existing chime, (though I could live with that if it had a Homebase,) I will either have to wait until Eufy does this or keep on looking.

    I have the battery version wired to my doorbell wires to keep a constant charge. I have both a Homebase E and Homebase 2. The information states that you need to connect to the Homebase 2. I tested with the Homebase E and it works. The only thing I was unable to do is set schedules for Package Guarding and Ring Auto-Response. I could only set either the start time or the end time but not both. I don't know if that has to do with it being connected to my Homebase E. I will connect it to my Homebase 2 and see if that may be the cause.

  • @Munky332

    I don't understand why there's even a "wired" option
    there's zero reason why there should be two models. Simply offer the battery model with the option to plug it into the wires for charging and the ability to control a standard chime...
    I'm guessing the only reason to get the wired one is to not have to rely on the base station? Personally if I'm installing a doorbell cam (which I will be shortly) I wouldn't just want only a doorbell, i'd want at least 1 additional cam, if not more, so in this case a base station would be a necessity.
    What irks me is that the newest base station (HomeBase 3) isn't currently working with the newest battery version of the doorbell... which is a really stupid thing... They say its coming in march of 2023, but why release a product if it isn't ready to be compatible with the most recent cameras? Seems like they really didn't think that decision through...
    Ideally I'd like to see a package with the new base station, the doorbell, and 2 extra cams.

      Every company has two models for a few reasons. The wired version allows them to sell it at a cheaper price as it doesn't have the battery. Yes the battery version has the option to be wired but it still doesn't have some of the features that the wired one has such as better motion detection, 4 seconds of pre buffer to see the entire event, and 24/7 recording. More options are always a good thing and serve different purposes. I agree that the launch of the HB3 seems rushed and should have been delayed so it would have full support for everything at launch.
