@@ericshepard6669 Rules about swearing on television were a lot more strict in the '60s. Kirk's "Let's get the hell out of here" at the end of "City on the Edge of Forever" was considered pushing the envelope back then; no way would they have allowed regular utterances of "damn it" in prime time. "Damn" didn't become a regular part of McCoy's vocabulary until the movies.

I left out, I think seven, instances of "hell" because I didn't think they were really being used in a profane sense. Like Troi's line: "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."
How about a "something tells me" compilation? I'm not sure if TNG is the worst example of this to be fair, but something tells me it's a trope that won't die.
H is for Holodeck E is for Exiting times in the Holodeck L is for all the Laughs you had...in the Holodeck L is for Lasting memories of your time, in the Holodeck
I have watched TNG and Star Trek in general for all of my 35 years on this Earth, as the show became available on DVD I watched it way more. For the last 10 years I have re watched TNG every year, I move on to the next ST show in the line up until I get back to TNG and repeat (Yea, i'm that obsessed) and I noticed the Riker maneuver, the use of the number 47 and when Geordi was asked to go to Warp 2 and he responded with "Aye sir, full impulse" (pretty sure that was in "Conspiracy") and I have not ONCE noticed that they said hell THIS MANY TIMES! Man TNG really was one HELL of a show!
I would love to see a supercut with every instance of the "Statement, Title/Name, Restatement" trope. It would be marvelous, Editor Ryan. ...It would be marvelous.
@@RyansEdits Yes, totally! Honestly, I can't remember if this was more of a Star Trek thing or a Babylon 5 thing. Or it might just be a snowclone that was popular at the time on TV?
What the hell am I doing watching ads in this video? It makes one hell of a way to support Ryan. I’m imagining Ryan trying to detox after editing this video. Ryan must have been saying what the hell... for hours afterwards. We only have to watch it, he’s gotta listen and edit, hell... he has to now put up with all the comments. Love your work!
Never noticed how many times they said that in this show. This must have been said more than any other phrase. Edit glad I was still there at the end or I would have played hell.
What makes this doubly funny is that most of the instances are occasions of total bewilderment and confusion, and they just keep coming one after the other, and it sounds like the most obtuse, incompetent group of people Starfleet could have ever found and thrown together. 😆 Nobody knows anything!
What the hell did I just watch, why the hell did I love it so much, who the hell is even reading this, where the hell am I going and when the hell am I going to get there?
I love how this is a post religious humanity, yet "hell" is still a common word. I'm glad they didn't go the BSG route though and try to make up future swears, that was just cringey.
Made up swear words CAN be good. To me this makes more sense, today most people swear without actually meaning the literal word, so kinda makes sense that certain words would carry on. Like every time someone im Star Trek says "My God".
They only used "Hell" two times as an expletive, both by Kirk. Once at the very end of "The City on the Edge of Forever" and once on "The Doomsday Machine" when he is on the Constellation watching the Enterprise get pulled into the planet killer. It definitely seems TNG was over-compensating though, :)
The censors wouldn't let them use it on the show (except once or twice, but they still tried to get it cut out then). It was too explicit for them. See: th-cam.com/video/ca44g-LnwlI/w-d-xo.html&t=442 Here is every time they used the word (as a swear or otherwise): LAZARUS: Come! Come! It'll do you no good. I'll chase you to the very fires of hell! KIRK: The statement Lucifer made when he fell into the pit. 'It is better to rule in hell than serve in heaven.' KIRK: Let's get the hell out of here. DECKER: They say there's no devil, Jim, but there is. Right out of hell, I saw it. KRAKO: How the hell'd I get here? What? What happened? MCCOY: Tombstone. Hell for leather, right out of history.
Set course for Helluva III.
"What's the climate like down there?"
"It's hellacool, sir."
Picard: "Maximum warp, Ensign! ENGAGE!!"
Star Trek: One Hell of a Generation
At least the classic Star Trek series (1965 to 2005). JJ Trek and New (CBSAA) Trek are sadly another matter :(

I instantly started thinking of this.
Nope. Not this time. It's false, it never happened. It's pure fiction.
