Ships of Fortune is still my favourite by a decent margin. Because it still dictates how we play, every session. Emissary’s just make the risk/reward feel way better.
The chest of Fortune has made doing FoF so much more enjoyable simply because of how often people are fighting over it. Had a voyage earlier today, did 2 ashen vaults, me and my crewmate then made our way to the FoF, as we get closer we see 2 sloops and a brig fighting. As we pull into the battle the brig goes down with one of the sloops soon to follow, we get boarded by someone we thought was part of the last remaining sloop but NO, he was from the brig that went down, he helped us sink the final sloop and we began the FoF with that awesome friend sadly leaving. Mid FoF a ship pulls up, we get into a fight but they eventually crash into the island getting completely stuck, we just had to hold out as they could not sink with their boat eventually despawning. We finish the FoF and start looting, when ONE FINAL CHALLENGER APROCACHES, the say "gg" before the fight even starts thinking they won cause they got the drop on us, they got our must and some holes before we even got back onto the boat. We got the mast back up and managed to drop theirs, pumped em full of holes and claimed all the FoF loot, getting our first Chest of Fortune sell along with it.
You forgot to mention the best part about the Pirate's Life surprise, the fact that it the update came out literally under 2 weeks after we all found out about it
Well for ones I’ve played it’s season 7, 8 and 9 so I’d say my favorites 9 as I play solo 99.9% of the time and all the nice thing and least favorite is 8 just with how long a solo battle takes and all
The first anniversary update was by far my favorite update. It brought so much to the game present today, and set the basis for many of the later updates. It was such an amazing time
I'm proud to say that I took part in every single one of these events and while some of them may have been less lackluster than others I did enjoy all of them to some extent
Yesterday I was doing a red skull world event that's when 4 different crews showed up and too my surprise instead of fighting we joined an alliance so 5 diffrent teams we joined together 🤟🤟 we took a picture with the vault before we parted ways just felt like sharing. May the wind fill your sails💪💪💪
80/20 rule. 80 percent of what Sea of Thieves is at its core was established on what I call Vanilla/Classic SoT; this is from the launch through Hungering Deep, Cursed Sails, Forsaken Shores, Shrouded Spoils to finally the Anniversary Update. Think of anything they added since then, it probably is a variation of one of the core concepts and content they added in those updates. PvE in the seas: Hungering Deep, Cursed Sails, and Shrouded Spoils. PvE events at a specific location: Launch with Skeleton Forts Adding new areas to explore: Forsaken Shores. Lore: Tall Tales with puzzles from Anniversary Update. PvP-oriented faction/game-mode: Anniversary Update with Arena. Fishing: Anniversary Update. Commendations: Bilge Rats around the Hungering Deep. Everything they added since then is just a remake of these core concepts. These updates were massive events that got everyone hyped for, I think when they switched to scheduled monthly updates and seasons the updates lost their weight, varied much more in quality, and began employing much more FOMO instead of mostly relying on captivating content and lore. This is not to say the updates since then suck, there have been many improvements and awesome updates, but no era will be more epic than the Classic era imo.

Would you like to see that Ray?
Even players that don't like PvP should have it as one of their favourite: It funnelled a large number who would otherwise prowl the seas for easy prey into the matchmade PvP, meaning that PvE players are less likely to get ganked out of nowhere.
@@Kafaldsbylur Exactly! It created a fantastic ecosystem where everyone is largely happy. Season 9 helped balance it out a little bit by giving a reason to fight over world events, but random emissary runs are much more peaceful than before.
An idea I have for a new faction is the scrappers and what you do is you go to a barge that move around and is the only one you can pay to find the location at an outpost at some machine and when you get to them you have to pay to dock and get aboard and you sell your supplies and the more time your there the more money is taken and it scales to crew and ship size and the initial price is more than the starting supplies sell value and the sever is alerted with a sound beacon and map signal to show they person there has supplies you can steal and maybe some loot. The scrappers also take storage crates and sell reskins of old time limited items and unlock after ___ level with them but the reskins are all brown and dirty as the scrapers have found them while the barge was sailing picking up lost equipment and it all is dirty slightly destroyed with chips and some different color schemes like a stitchers stitches one can be one that’s burned and covered in ash and slightly burned and ripped and just all tattered
Hungering Deep will always have a special place in my heart I remember the whole server parked at shark bait cove to play music take screenshots and play the event.
I have taken part in just about all of the events past heart of fire and it was amazing to have ships of fortune drop right as I was finishing my journey to pirate legend. The emissary system made the journey from 45 to 50 way easier and that was one of the best times to play the game. I think the summer quarantine held my best gaming memories that still can’t be topped to this day. But it is a shame when you have that group that you played with for a solid month or two break away to do other things. I really miss the monthly updates but I can understand why they had to go.

Yeah Season 8 is my favorite update and I love the skeleton curse and how they did it. I actually think that how we got it is better than the possibility to use our cosmetics on a skelly it would've been boring in my opinion. Now the skelly curse is really special and imo the best curse in the game😊
Ok I think some slack should be given to the pirate emporium update as it’s what let’s us still get updates and it did give us pets not much in gameplay but was the gateway to more updates
While I do agree that the addition of a PVP matchmaking system is cool, especially with the curse rewards, I would still like to see something akin to a custom PvE server. Only one crew, profits cut by half, don't care of the restrictions, as long as I can enjoy the content and unlock all the related commendations (obviously you can't get commendations for stealing/gifting loot, sinking vessels, selling other players flags, etc) I'd be happy. This game is so unbelievably beautiful that I really want to enjoy what it brings, but it's not as fun when me and my crew have to constantly look around or over our shoulders for someone deciding to ruin our fun for no other reason than that they can (seriously, 8/10 times we pvp is for actually no reason, no commendations, not for loot, just...to fight, ruin our day, that sort of thing, it's infuriating).

I booted the game for the first time and got slapped with the Seabound Soul soundtrack. I could sit for hours on the main menu just listening to it. And now every time I hear it, I get very nostalgic
It would be amazing if the devs add a team mode for the hourglass battle were teams of three ships duke it out and the team with the last ship standing wins
Solid idea. I only see two issues, but otherwise, that sounds cool as hell! 1. How would sunken crews be handled? I was thinking that they could choose to spectate the battle from a "phantom ship" or opt out after loss. 2. Crews leaving mid fight would be even more frustrating than crewmates leaving.
What about something MW2 DMZ styled? Maybe something where arena is brought back but ships arrive in the arena and score as much as they can until a time limit expires and their ship leaves again, so you aren’t waiting ages for a server.
the frostbite set is the latest fully completed set in sea of thieves cloths, equipment, weapons , ship parts , its all there and abatable, sorry for the rant but you still think the DA was the last full set completed. love your videos BTW sorry for any bad spelling

Would still love it if they returned the commendations from Arena and ported them to the new version of PvP. Also, really wish they would stop recycling commendations. (ie: repeat everything for boat cosmetics, repeat for PvP, etc) Both of those reasons are why I stopped playing before (since I'm mostly a commendation hunter) Fortune has really brought back a ton of nostalgia and makes me want to get back to the grind.
At the current moment, I still have one of the Fates of the Damned Voyages still in my inventory. It hasn't been removed, so I plan to keep it as long as I can, lol.
Fate of the Damned was meant to be a blatant cash grab with the Soulflame costume, weapon set, and the rest of the set save for the lantern originally intended to be in the Pirate Emporium. It took weeks of Insider backlash for this to change but this was still complete bullshit
S6 brought the focus of trying to pad MAU for shareholds. Monthly Active Users. Adventures became a bigger focus than actually working on the next season so delay delay delay. 0 testing because players had to test adventures instead since that was more important.
I'm so glad that I started playing just 1 week before the 2019 Anniversary Update, it was so good. But my favourite update will forever be the Seabound Soul
i am a pve weenie but i agree season 8 was fantastic as it allows me to find a fight if i wish would like to see rare put in a better match making system tho
Considering I love all the monthly updates more than the seasons and simply enjoyed the game way more during that time, it’s fun seeing so many of them so low on the list.
I may not have been around for anything besides (most of) the seasons buuut, have to say my Least favorite so far has been season 5 and favorite has to be Season Seven, I adoooree captaincy and every time I see my ships banner appear I get that little dopamine hit. Also, I feel I'm in the very small camp that adores the milestone system. Have to say I was suprised to see Season 5 fall below Season 1 and 2 on your list 👀
I still have two Fate of the Dammed voyages and a black powder stash in my inventory. I had taken a break after these updates, and when I came back I found that they were still there. I decided to keep them and see how long that they would last. I wonder if they would still work.
I find it funny about the people who are terrified of pvp. I did my first FOF solo at 30 hours simply because everyone else on the server didn't bother to do it. Selling that loot was a truly unique experience. A FOF is a highly contested event, and just like the reaper's chests, taking that risk can net some serious gold
Hunering Deep is my favoring from the revealing meg to sot even tho I wasnt there at the time I just now wish I was so I could had a chance of having the tatoos ir drum
Season 3 will always be my fav because the introduction of adventures inspired us to make our little news network and season 8 is the most disappointing. I wish pvp ran smoother than it does with problems like hit reg and cheaters etc. I feel like diving is still fun just wish they could've done more to fix pvp before releasing a mode that highlights it's problems instead of it's strengths. I've never rage quit SoT until season 8. 😂😂😂😂

In your season nine combat footage I'm a bit confused why you went to sword the guy on cannons and then shot him when as a border it'd be more effective to bring a blunder, or to have shot him with the EOR first while he was on the cannons and then sworded for a more secure kill.
Favorite is everything that’s not season 8. Season 8 could be the best update if they didn’t secretly help pve lords. Here is how. I was a server hopper but now you can only go for fotd because it can be a pvp faction ship with no loot. So if a you want to stack you will now have much less hoppers. And also season 9 did not fix any sort of gun problems like it was said to do.
Season 9 > Season 8 imo because it made PvP as natural and wild as the devs intended. The Fort of Fortune added a natural beacon for pirate combat unlike the hourglass which is just a glorified loadscreen. The curses are cool but either unobtainable for most, or meh to average for others. Plus a refresh on all the PvE content is very welcome, being able to solo events allows for better time spent with larger crews (like actually grinding PvP matches now!)
Chest of rage is not the most annoying chest in the game, that goes to the chest of sorrow. Chest of rage is just let it explode on the bow sprit and put out one fire, the sorrow kind will sink your ship fast.
my best friend tried getting me to play 2 years ago on xbox and i hated it, season 9 comes around and he teaches me the art of stealing, slowly getting better and better, i started to love the game. Hackers and people who raise alliance to spawn camp ruin the game though.
I would purchase one of the bigger ships but I don't have friends to play with and open crews are annoying to deal with because you could get one of those pvp sweatlords or a noob neither I want to deal with because if I want pvp i slap the hourglass and start matchmaking and I don't got the patience to teach someone who just started out on the stuff they didn't put in the tutorial or the glitches that at this point im convinced are just features since the devs never patch them out even years later
4 months seasons feels... horrible. I hope they return to 3 months eventually... and honestly return arena and it's cosmetics. It is a shame those cosmetics has to be in a vault forever, just to collect dust in someone elses collection...
Season 3 is actually the season that made me quit, you didn’t mention this but that shit was insanely buggy, after the first part it became basically unplayable, it’s like they didn’t even bug test it

I mean sure Fort of the Damned is a world event in terms of the whole world can see it and engage in it. But the definition of world events in sea of thieves is they are on a roation and only one can be up at a time. FoTD is the only "world event" that can be active at the same time as any other because... well its not a real world event. World event is OG forts, FoF, fleets, ghost fleet, ashen winds... and the KRAKEN!! kraken cant spawn when a world event is up. kraken can spawn when fotd is the only event active.
They need an update that brings back as much lost content as possible. Bringing old stuff back permanently for a nostalgia bang is the ONLY excuse for removing it to begin with just because I love old player having an excuse to tell story's from when the old content was current content.
It introduced the (in my opinion) best world event a new pvpve tool(the skull) and i may be a bit biased as i was grinding the game before this update was realesed so my nostalgia may be influenving my judgement
Really not sure what my favorite update was honestly, probably anniversary or captaincy. Definitely agree with your least favorite though, the longest period I've gone without playing the game was during the time fate of the damned was active, the game was getting stale for me at the time and the update added nothing.
@Chellzie essentially, Return of the Damned was released to funnel players into the Emporium. The Shrouded Ghost ship set was sent out too, which marked the start of lore sets being released in the Emporium, all while the earnable cosmetics evaporated.

I like the rage chest conceptually at least. Having a ticking time bomb that had to be managed did create tention.

I may not have been around for anything besides (most of) the seasons buuut, have to say my Least favorite so far has been season 5 and favorite has to be Season Seven, I adoooree captaincy and every time I see my ships banner appear I get that little dopamine hit. Also, I feel I'm in the very small camp that adores the milestone system.
Have to say I was suprised to see Season 5 fall below Season 1 and 2 on your list 👀

I still have two Fate of the Dammed voyages and a black powder stash in my inventory. I had taken a break after these updates, and when I came back I found that they were still there. I decided to keep them and see how long that they would last. I wonder if they would still work.

I find it funny about the people who are terrified of pvp. I did my first FOF solo at 30 hours simply because everyone else on the server didn't bother to do it. Selling that loot was a truly unique experience. A FOF is a highly contested event, and just like the reaper's chests, taking that risk can net some serious gold

Season 3 will always be my fav because the introduction of adventures inspired us to make our little news network and season 8 is the most disappointing. I wish pvp ran smoother than it does with problems like hit reg and cheaters etc. I feel like diving is still fun just wish they could've done more to fix pvp before releasing a mode that highlights it's problems instead of it's strengths. I've never rage quit SoT until season 8. 😂😂😂😂

my favorite update was season 8 for the pvp changes (sloop mast, respawn time, etc.)
In your season nine combat footage I'm a bit confused why you went to sword the guy on cannons and then shot him when as a border it'd be more effective to bring a blunder, or to have shot him with the EOR first while he was on the cannons and then sworded for a more secure kill.

Anniversary will probably always be my favourite update and it reallly put the game on the map
Favorite is everything that’s not season 8. Season 8 could be the best update if they didn’t secretly help pve lords. Here is how. I was a server hopper but now you can only go for fotd because it can be a pvp faction ship with no loot. So if a you want to stack you will now have much less hoppers. And also season 9 did not fix any sort of gun problems like it was said to do.
Season 9 > Season 8 imo because it made PvP as natural and wild as the devs intended. The Fort of Fortune added a natural beacon for pirate combat unlike the hourglass which is just a glorified loadscreen. The curses are cool but either unobtainable for most, or meh to average for others. Plus a refresh on all the PvE content is very welcome, being able to solo events allows for better time spent with larger crews (like actually grinding PvP matches now!)

Chest of rage is not the most annoying chest in the game, that goes to the chest of sorrow.
Chest of rage is just let it explode on the bow sprit and put out one fire, the sorrow kind will sink your ship fast.
my best friend tried getting me to play 2 years ago on xbox and i hated it, season 9 comes around and he teaches me the art of stealing, slowly getting better and better, i started to love the game. Hackers and people who raise alliance to spawn camp ruin the game though.

I would purchase one of the bigger ships but I don't have friends to play with and open crews are annoying to deal with because you could get one of those pvp sweatlords or a noob neither I want to deal with because if I want pvp i slap the hourglass and start matchmaking and I don't got the patience to teach someone who just started out on the stuff they didn't put in the tutorial or the glitches that at this point im convinced are just features since the devs never patch them out even years later
4 months seasons feels... horrible. I hope they return to 3 months eventually... and honestly return arena and it's cosmetics. It is a shame those cosmetics has to be in a vault forever, just to collect dust in someone elses collection...

Season 3 is actually the season that made me quit, you didn’t mention this but that shit was insanely buggy, after the first part it became basically unplayable, it’s like they didn’t even bug test it
My first season was 7 - and I only regret I didn't pick it up sooner. Do I have a favorite season? 8 - Because I adore the Ravenwood Ship set.

I mean sure Fort of the Damned is a world event in terms of the whole world can see it and engage in it. But the definition of world events in sea of thieves is they are on a roation and only one can be up at a time. FoTD is the only "world event" that can be active at the same time as any other because... well its not a real world event. World event is OG forts, FoF, fleets, ghost fleet, ashen winds... and the KRAKEN!! kraken cant spawn when a world event is up. kraken can spawn when fotd is the only event active.

They need an update that brings back as much lost content as possible.
Bringing old stuff back permanently for a nostalgia bang is the ONLY excuse for removing it to begin with just because I love old player having an excuse to tell story's from when the old content was current content.

It introduced the (in my opinion) best world event a new pvpve tool(the skull) and i may be a bit biased as i was grinding the game before this update was realesed so my nostalgia may be influenving my judgement

Really not sure what my favorite update was honestly, probably anniversary or captaincy. Definitely agree with your least favorite though, the longest period I've gone without playing the game was during the time fate of the damned was active, the game was getting stale for me at the time and the update added nothing.
I think everyone was pissed off with the cosmetics situation, too.

@Chellzie essentially, Return of the Damned was released to funnel players into the Emporium. The Shrouded Ghost ship set was sent out too, which marked the start of lore sets being released in the Emporium, all while the earnable cosmetics evaporated.
Woah woah woah wym the skeleton curse wasn't how we had hoped? You literally turn into a skeleton what else is there to want haha. I mean if it's because you can't wear normal clothing with it idc about that. The skeleton curse gave new unique cosmetics where you can turn your arm into a giant crabs or lodge a bomb into your skull much cooler then I thought it was gonna be
