I believe death tax was actually a concept that players wanted where you would lose gold for dying, as a way to deincentivize the strategy of just throwing yourself repeatedly at enemy players until you won by exhausting their resources. Rare even played with the idea of a death tax, but ultimately decided that it wasn't good for the health of the game, as players who were getting spawn camped or destroyed repeatedly through no fault of their own would basically be getting kicked while they were down. the sea also would have to be more than 100M deep, as the Sunken shrines and the Sunken Pearl are actually high points in the sea bed, with the ground going even further into the dark around them. Many of the Sunken shrines actually used to be surface structures, according to lore. bare feet are supposedly quieter while running, your comparison was for jumping. Did not know you could set your watch to the Kraken, and it's good to know how frequently barrels restock. the merfolk are not a curse, but the sirens are a curse on the merfolk that transfers like a disease, known as the Whispering plague.

No, the devs were going to put it in originally but got backlash in the alpha so they didn't in the end You can't 'set' the watch for the kracken, the sound of the kracken goes off 2 times per day (I think 9 and 3)
14:10 yes there is, you just have to shoot your first gun, swap to the second one, then sprint a bit and shoot. Sprinting will cancel the animation of your character pulling the gun up

34:30 The sword spawn camp glitch is no longer a thing I believe. Back when I played you could swing the sword at places players would spawn and get an audio cue indicating a player is spawning there as it'd make sounds like you were hitting them. You could use this to set up blunder spawn camps. I think it's okay to share since I'm fairly sure this was fixed awhile back.
@@FyaPhoenix Thought you'd be happy to know (if you don't already) that as of the 2.5.3 patch about two weeks ago, they fixed this. Under the "Visual and Audio" section of the patch notes: "Players should no longer be able to strike at a location where another player may be respawning and hear an audio effect, confirming that player’s location."
quick swapping and shooting weapons is most definitely a thing (at the time of this comment at least) the technique is: 1.Shoot first weapon 2. Push button to swap to 2nd weapon 3. Immediately sprint forward just a tiny step as soon as the animation of swapping to your 2nd weapon starts 4. Fire 2nd weapon When you swap weapons normally there is a significant delay before you can shoot that 2nd weapon (at least a second and a half), but immediately sprinting after swapping removes most of the animation and lets you fire your 2nd weapon at least 1 second quicker than normal.
I think the death tax might be referring to the gold amount you had to pay if you died in the alpha or that's what the dev's planned not sure if it was implemented in alpha or not great video
They were going to implement the death tax shortly after the release of the game but backlash from the fan base made them change their mind before they implemented it

32:55 In SoT lore, the big rock at the center of the map (Where the Sea Dog tavern is) is apparently a portal that can take you to and from the Sea of Thieves. Whenever a new ship joins the server, lightning strikes the top of the rock. I've personally only seen it happen once
I’ve read pretty much every source of sea of thieves information at this point and I’ve never seen that mentioned anywhere, sounds like pure speculation to me.
Yea it was a popular theory and features in a few vids but its never been confirmed. I've seen lightning hit the rock hit there a few times but I'm not sure it cause of a new player joining
Lore bits you didn't explain so I'll explain here: *Ancients* The Ancients' effect on the Sea of Thieves is far greater than just cave paintings, in fact, nearly every single magical artifact or trinket is of their craftmanship. Magic would not have been harnessed into spells, enchantments, and curses were it not for them. The magically inclined Pirates today only fool around with the artifacts left over by the Ancients, and only a select few, such as the Ashen Lord Red Ruth, have been able to harness their own, originally-sourced magic. *Cursed Loot* Actually a pretty decent summary. Though not all gold is cursed, only a small fraction of it. But the large amount found in chests gives enough threat anyways. The most common curse from the coins is the Gold Curse *Cursed Sails* The lore behind this centers around Wanda, the original Golden Sands weaponsmith. Using a cursed cannon to create cursed cannonballs, she received a measure of magic herself, cursing her into a Skeleton Lord, the most powerful and sane type of skeleton. Still, though, it warps the mind, and Wanda became truly unhinged with rage, taking on the mantle of Captain Warsmith and declaring war on the Outposts who had rejected her efforts of selling cursed cannonballs. She fought hard, but the pirates fought harder, and her ship the Sandman's Revenge was sunk somewhere in the Shores of Plenty. Wanda would later turn up with the new identity of the Masked Stranger, working as Flameheart's original puppet and the founder of the Reaper's Bones. Wanda would soon forsake Flameheart after he rejected a romantic advance (not kidding), and now she's off with the Dark Brethren. In the rather recent Forts of the Forgotten trailer, Wanda has appeared again, still in her Masked Stranger garb and with a new Masked Stranger who many believe to be the Sea Dog's very own Amaranta. *Reaper's Hideout Trapdoor* Nope, me and every other basement-dwelling lore enthusiast don't have any idea either. *Gloria* Season 7 has come with a few cosmetics rather nostalgic of Gloria, including a Silvered PL eyepatch awarded during Legends Week, and the Plunder Pass tier 100 PL reward directly referencing Gloria in the descriptor text. She has also been seen in the Pendragon comics, working as sort of a bartender in the Athena's Fortune tavern. Yeah, I think you're right, Rare's incredibly sexist. Can't believe them. *Kraken Cries* There are usually 3 distinct Kraken roars, one at 3:00, 3:15, and I believe 3:10? What's interesting is that they all come from different directions, suggesting the existence of a third, unseen Kraken alongside the Daughter and Jeff (world event cycle dependent Kraken) *Ferry Missing Cannons* There's no lore explanation for this. I think it's just part of the Ferry's overall "ghostly shipwreck" look, and the missing cannons have no lore relevance at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Ferry has all eight cannons during its battle with the Dutchman during A Pirate's Life. I'll have to look that up *Merfolk Curse and the Related Song* Do not take the song as actual lore! It's an in-universe folk song which bastardizes the story of the Siren King and the Whispering Plague! Ok, with that disclaimer out of the way, here's the Siren Origin Deep Dive: During the Ancient times, a warrior fell in love with the Sea Queen, and they searched for magic to allow them to live together. Nearly everyone thought this was a bad idea- Older Mer told the Sea Queen that the magic was forbidden, and even the High Priest of the Ancients made an attempt on the Warrior's life to stop him. The Sea Queen eventually found a way through the use of Mermaid Gems, which contains magic that can allow for a human to become a Mer. When attempted on the Warrior, everyone's fears turned out true, and the ritual gave birth to the Whispering Curse, a plague that decimated the Mer as it separated them from their Song, which is kinda like a musically-based collective memory and culture. This separation created the Sirens, who founded their own Song based on the sorrow of their circumstance. Thankfully, the new Siren Queen and Siren King were together! Sorry I lied the Siren King was killed and his soul imprisoned in a chest by the Ancients when he went to them under the belief the meeting was for diplomacy. The Siren Queen's sorrow turned to rage, and a vast war between the Sirens and the Mer and Ancients began. To fight the land-dwelling Ancients, the Sirens made use of the Mermaid Gem's magical properties once more, taking Ancient Sailors and turning them into Ocean Crawler Abominations. The Ancients and Mer were the victors of the war, though, and the Sirens went into a deep sleep, only to be awoken rather recently- possibly as early as Hungering Deep if some theories turn out to be true. *Whispering Chest* The Whispering Chest is somewhat connected with the Sirens, Mer, and the Whispering Plague. One theory points to it entering the ocean as the event that awoke the Sirens Also this was a very funny video thanks for the laughs keep it up
Thank you very much for all this information, I really appreciate it! I’m looking into a lot of the lore right now so I can make some lore related videos later down the line, hopefully pretty soon in fact. I’ve read Athena’s Fortune and I’m currently reading Tales of the Sea of Thieves (which I know needs taking with a grain of salt). I’ve also started actually reading the journals in game rather than just spamming through them for the commendation, which I did for way too long 😂
Also I knew there was way more I could say about the ancients, but it seemed quite complex, and I already had a hell of a lot to concentrate on and get her clips for for this vid - plus I’m just going into my third year of University now, so I’m trying to balance that and also investing time in my channel. I was also super confused about the ferry missing cannon, partly because it’s missing way more than one, I think it’s missing like, 3 at least? Since I only started playing in May 2020 I missed out on like, hungering deep and cursed sails, and I only started getting in to the lore pretty recently, but I think I’m mostly caught up now.
13:49 - This could have also been the unused jail cell in the same place. you couldn't get in there, thus you couldn't get holes there. they removed this, but the sloop basically had a big ass shield on its left side which was really really useful in the games early stages
There's something else interesting about harpooning the Meg. First, some common knowledge. If you sail close enough to an island, Meg runs away and despawns. If you harpoon a Meg, no matter where you are, if you hold it for a few seconds, and release it, it also enters this "flee" state. If you don't want to fight Meg, just hang on with the harpoon for a few seconds, and then you'll be fine.
I miss the fact that every time you parry your tm's sword 3x, and then strike back, you'll get the sword duel achievement, regardless of non existing friendly fire.
@@jp-sn6si that’s it. You can also ADS with a gun and it does the same thing. I’d recommend practicing it by jumping off your own boat and trying to do it.

People who want PvE servers have an incorrect opinion? Bro they are adding them now. Also, How other's play doesn't affect you. I don't have a lot of time to play, so jumping on, only to be rolled by some sweat lord and his gang of racists calling me and my mates every name under the sun whilst telling me to unalive myself, isn't how I wish to spend my free time.
How can you enjoy this game without PvP? There's already not really anything to do, there's sooooo many better games for a PvE experience. Id much rather get on after an 8-12 hour shift and sweat at PvP than switch to PvE and just sail around from location to location with no real threats or challenges to take on. I might as well play AC black flag at that point.
Funny how I don't see anybody complaining about the people who wanted arena mode to be a thing because they were sick of pve interrupting their pvp, yet people who want a pve mode get complained about and told "iT's SeA oF tHiEvEs, NoT sEa Of FrIeNdS" like no pirate crews ever would have banded together towards one goal, which, btw, happened in Pirates Of The Caribbean, which has a collaboration with SOT lmao. I play video games to relax and have fun. Constantly worrying about sweats that only play the game to ruin the other person's time and nothing else isn't fun to me and it sure as hell isn't relaxing. I'm not a thrill seeker. I'm not trying to prove my skills or whatever dick measuring contest pvp'ers enjoy having. I just want to chill out with my friends and sail the seas and have fun, is that too much to ask?
Well when you enjoy the game and you're gotten literally everything and every update is completed in a week pvp is the only fun thing left and now there is no arena all that's left is to hunt ships
ngl don't play the game then lol the game will never have a pve mode because the entire fucking point of ghe game is pvp and stealing shit if you can't handle it this game ain't for you
@@slingybingy219 I already stopped playing months ago. I came to terms with the fact that no matter how much I want to like the game and play it the way I want to play it, nothing is going to change. I was just excited since there hasn't been a good single player pirate game since Black Flag but apparently that isn't going to change anytime soon.
One thing to note with the Chest of Rage (at least whenever I last had one) is that when making a pool in your ship, the water will eventually boil and create a large area that does damage to you, and will eventually cause the water to evaporate. Use that tactic with caution!
I think having to throw water on your bowsprit every few minutes is a much easier system than getting enough water in your ship and boiling every time you go down there
37:00 There was another game that Rare developed on the N64 that led to Banjo Kazooie. It was somewhere between a point-and-click adventure and an RPG, I think, and it was about a young pirate. Apparently it was cancelled because of technical issues regarding rendering and storing waves, ocean and large land masses. I think what is being referenced is the similarity in theming and potentially the beginning of SoT being an homage to this unreleased game.
Don't know if this was mentioned, but on the smaller island of reapers hideout there is a diary from merrick where he rickrolls you.... He says this: "We're no strangers to this cove..." Forgot the rest but its really funny you should check it out when you next go there.

I’m pretty sure the islands grew with the game? I remember sometime after the release a few islands were completely shaven, then a few months after they had trees & vegetation.
My favorite fun thing about Sea of Thieves is that rowboats are basically indestructable. You can just row into the worst storm and even the Kraken ignores you.
@@LongingString really? I did row through a storm about three days ago but maybe it wasn't bad enough. Still concerning you can row through giant waves that would pull you under is pretty metal.

34:28 that’s when you sword swipe someone before they spawn in to see where they are. If you hit the spawn point where they’re going to spawn, the game thinks you hit a person.
speedswap is a thing you can cut down the swap animation of a gun and get two shots off in a matter of seconds it also works with a single gun too to reduce the reload time
@@LongingString nah still in the game maybe you read where they said they were going to fix where you cant ads your guns while you are being sword slashed but its still not fixed lol

The problem with this game such a good concept that it will never actually be a good game. It's basically 100% carried by the concept of being a pirate sim sailing across the sea so unless the game starts dying qiuckly, Sea of Thievs will become a textbook example of how a game can die with a wimper instead of a bang. At the end of the day, the devs can ignore the glaring issues killing the game, by covering up the true reasons behind the "low" player counts by saying, "oh the reason the game only has [whatever number] of active players is because the genre is too niche to gain wide mass appeal." This is completely wrong and like the only thing keeping the game alive is the concept. So until the game starts dying fr, the actual game part of Sea of Thieves will suck. The devs will never have motivation to change the whole thing up until the eye of Microsoft focus on them.
skeletons can detonate barrels I've had situations happen where I was carrying a barrel and a skeleton shot me without me realizing it was there killing me instantly. I honestly think in that footage that you showed was just a skeleton with really bad accuracy. Or this is a relatively new patch
8:11 no you do not need to do every Tall Tale in the game in order to get it, you only need to do the Golden Shores related Tall Tales in order to get it.
Well one of the golden shores commendations requires you to get all other tall tales commendations. So you’re right in a way, but you still need all tall tales commendations.
Personally, I think PVE servers should exist. Not because I want people to play a pirate game without pirates, but because I want people in PVP servers to stop running across the map as much.
The riddles are wrong one is that sometimes the last line of the riddle will have the wrong place on the same island and or the wrong number of steps by a few. The lightning one is about the rock arch in the center of the map being stuck when a new play joins the server. Edit: this may have been fixed since I stopped playing though.
The sword thing was an exploit (now patched) where a player that hadn't yet loaded in could be detected by swinging your sword where they are, and it would make the hit sound
It was known as force spawn, they would still be black screened after they went through the ferry but you could force spawn them and kill them before they even come out of their black screen
The skeleton glitch still exists! Happened to my friend the other day, and no it isn't the skeleton curse, we don't have it nor do we really do matchmade PvP.
considering the sheer amount of pve vs pvp content, and the fact they are shutting down arena, letting all the pvp troglodytes out into the adventure mode, yes, there needs to be a pve mode, or paid private servers. I honestly dont care how it's done but as someone who deals with reapers like honey deals with flies and gets the worst hit reg luck, I'd like to be able to enjoy the rest of the game the way I do the feel of simplysailing.
It’s inevitable that sometimes you are going to get sunk by players who are better than you, but there are a number of things you can do to prevent it, mainly just keeping a low profile, keeping your lights off and regularly checking the horizon, and if you do run into trouble and you don’t have a cremate I’d recommend going on the sea of thieves discord server, and getting someone on who’s willing to help, there’s loads of people thirsty for any kind of pvp on there. And also just check emissary tables when you enter a server, and try and find a server that’s as dead as possible. My friend and I did that when we decided to stack 7 Athena chests for the sake of it, and we didn’t run into a single player.
You can fast swap between guns by sprinting just after shooting your first shot, then aiming and shooting your second gun, because the animation for swapping doesn't play if you sprint swap.
I specifically remember rare did the season six update, And the release logs stated that they fixed a glitch that was allowing players to sprint and suddenly stop while reloading to have no wait time in between reloads....I never even knew it was a thing until I read the release notes for season six!....So yeah your video says different but I believe rare knew something was being exploited by many players to gain an edge on shooting skills...Sadly a lot of us were sunk by people using an exploit lol...Thanks too Rare for fixing a problem that nobody thought existed! XD
just recently i actually used the harpooning the meg thing to escape a ship, it just happened to move in a straight line at high speeds long enough to basically give my ship a massive boost forward
23:28 OMG THAT’S MY SHIP!!! I’ve been calling my ship the Kraken’s Bane for at least a year now, and now you’re telling me that someone already named it that? Damn it.
I’ve had the last part of a riddle be wrong, it said 7 paces south-by-southwest. I spent ten minutes looking and digging only for it to be south-by-southeast

34:30 The sword spawn camp glitch is no longer a thing I believe. Back when I played you could swing the sword at places players would spawn and get an audio cue indicating a player is spawning there as it'd make sounds like you were hitting them. You could use this to set up blunder spawn camps. I think it's okay to share since I'm fairly sure this was fixed awhile back.
unfortunately not :/ unless someone was really lucky because as i loaded in mid battle i got absolutely destroyed as soon as i could even move
@@FyaPhoenix Thought you'd be happy to know (if you don't already) that as of the 2.5.3 patch about two weeks ago, they fixed this.
Under the "Visual and Audio" section of the patch notes:
"Players should no longer be able to strike at a location where another player may be respawning and hear an audio effect, confirming that player’s location."
quick swapping and shooting weapons is most definitely a thing (at the time of this comment at least)
the technique is:
1.Shoot first weapon
2. Push button to swap to 2nd weapon
3. Immediately sprint forward just a tiny step as soon as the animation of swapping to your 2nd weapon starts
4. Fire 2nd weapon
When you swap weapons normally there is a significant delay before you can shoot that 2nd weapon (at least a second and a half), but immediately sprinting after swapping removes most of the animation and lets you fire your 2nd weapon at least 1 second quicker than normal.
Is it still working ?
I think the death tax might be referring to the gold amount you had to pay if you died in the alpha or that's what the dev's planned not sure if it was implemented in alpha or not great video

32:55 In SoT lore, the big rock at the center of the map (Where the Sea Dog tavern is) is apparently a portal that can take you to and from the Sea of Thieves. Whenever a new ship joins the server, lightning strikes the top of the rock. I've personally only seen it happen once
And your source?
@@IronGiant131 Tbh, I can't remember where I heard this. I feel like it was a PhuzzyBond video but idk which one. It was a while ago
I’ve read pretty much every source of sea of thieves information at this point and I’ve never seen that mentioned anywhere, sounds like pure speculation to me.
Yea it was a popular theory and features in a few vids but its never been confirmed. I've seen lightning hit the rock hit there a few times but I'm not sure it cause of a new player joining
it’s also where the sea of the damned and athena’s fortune are in the map
Lore bits you didn't explain so I'll explain here:
*Ancients*
The Ancients' effect on the Sea of Thieves is far greater than just cave paintings, in fact, nearly every single magical artifact or trinket is of their craftmanship.
*Cursed Loot*
Actually a pretty decent summary. Though not all gold is cursed, only a small fraction of it. But the large amount found in chests gives enough threat anyways. The most common curse from the coins is the Gold Curse
*Cursed Sails*
The lore behind this centers around Wanda, the original Golden Sands weaponsmith.
*Reaper's Hideout Trapdoor*
Nope, me and every other basement-dwelling lore enthusiast don't have any idea either.
*Gloria*
Season 7 has come with a few cosmetics rather nostalgic of Gloria, including a Silvered PL eyepatch awarded during Legends Week, and the Plunder Pass tier 100 PL reward directly referencing Gloria in the descriptor text. She has also been seen in the Pendragon comics, working as sort of a bartender in the Athena's Fortune tavern. Yeah, I think you're right, Rare's incredibly sexist. Can't believe them.
*Kraken Cries*
There are usually 3 distinct Kraken roars, one at 3:00, 3:15, and I believe 3:10? What's interesting is that they all come from different directions, suggesting the existence of a third, unseen Kraken alongside the Daughter and Jeff (world event cycle dependent Kraken)
*Ferry Missing Cannons*
There's no lore explanation for this. I think it's just part of the Ferry's overall "ghostly shipwreck" look, and the missing cannons have no lore relevance at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Ferry has all eight cannons during its battle with the Dutchman during A Pirate's Life. I'll have to look that up
*Merfolk Curse and the Related Song*
Do not take the song as actual lore!
*Whispering Chest*
The Whispering Chest is somewhat connected with the Sirens, Mer, and the Whispering Plague. One theory points to it entering the ocean as the event that awoke the Sirens
Also this was a very funny video thanks for the laughs keep it up
Thank you very much for all this information, I really appreciate it!

It’s still like that
My brother did that a couple days ago on me
Yeah it's "you fight like a merchant" and if your the opposing side you get "you fight like a chicken"

The skeleton forts are shaped in a heart for flameheart who is their idol, they built the forts just to appease him when he returns

There was another game that Rare developed on the N64 that led to Banjo Kazooie.

DUDE we can't overlook this part of the video. That just too comedicly edited with that cut off
That's what i'm saying!
When the ship went upside-down it looked like they were sailing in the same place as the ferry of the damned
4:30 that’s quite ironic now that safer seas are coming

Great video man, surprised you don’t have more subs you’re really funny
considering the sheer amount of pve vs pvp content, and the fact they are shutting down arena, letting all the pvp troglodytes out into the adventure mode, yes, there needs to be a pve mode, or paid private servers.
