High school is such a fish bowl, a lot of the time bullies won’t even realize what they’re really doing (or at the very least, the full extent of it) because they have these images of stereotypical shoving kids in lockers or “gimme your lunch money” scenarios when they think of bullying. Showing the role social media has in bullying is so crucial nowadays

    • @alexharo7925
      @alexharo7925 3 ปีที่แล้ว +81

Yes those stereotypes from movies, cartoons, and other media give off these perceptions or impressions of how bullying is and they're misguided by those bad examples. Even with Social Media bullying is getting worse but also getting more attention or awareness. Personally I feel like the parents are accountable for this to a certain degree by failing to supervise and discipline their kids/teens behavior teaching them from right and wrong.

I don't think it's that they don't realize that it's bullying. At least in my experience, it's just that these people don't care and they think your reactions (or lack there of) are funny.
I will say that I agree people don't see it as seriously if you're not getting physically abused and you're seen as 'sensitive' and whatever when these kids emotionally and/or mentally abuse you.
I don't think people recognize that bullying is just a nicer word for abuse.

In total, 13 years of bullying. 10 of those I hated myself and the world around me. I felt like I didn't matter! The last 3 years of school(basically high school), I was done being the victim. I stood up to my high school bullies, and showed them, "You can try and break me, but I'm a freaking diamond!" Plus the fact that they used the exact same words as my elementary and middle school bullies used, like they followed a freaking script📑
I can't tell you how many times I was called stupid, ugly and weird. Nowadays, I use those words, but in a positive way. Stupid? I never claimed to be a genius. Ugly? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Weird? I AM WEIRD😜, and I wouldn't change it! I love being different!

I was a victim of sexual harassment and know how this feel, I was pressured into going to some school trip and I was gonna be alone with those who harassed me, I said no but the teachers would put me on it without my consent if i didnt have a reason and in the end admitted to them what was happening, i thought i was gonna get help but instead they made me shut my mouth and there was no actions taken, so i told my parents and my father blamed me for it for being a soft guy, so in the end I got hurt more.

One of the most diabolical experiences I’ve had as a guy who got bullied for a handful of years was 1) refusing to retaliate on my enemies out of sincere compassion for them and 2) them making me feel like I’m a worse threat that either deserves to be bullied or doesn’t know what they’re doing. I took on a spiel of childhood trauma that I underestimated for nearly a decade, including some conflict in college and even in recent where I’m highly misunderstood for my situation. Sometimes I tried to reach out but I would be so blind and confused as to my idea of asking for help that I ended up hurting other peoples feelings as if I myself were taking advantage of them, again misunderstood.
I don’t have any regrets to this day concerning how lucky I am today, but amongst things like how depressed I was for years I have a few notions for those in my shoes no matter the age:
      1) don’t be ashamed for having a slower paced life than others. I’m sure no one wants to be left behind, but you will cultivate way more healthily if you are accepting of where you are right now.
      2) you do have time. You will be surprised how many open doors come to those who prepare for them, I’d imagine the people who typically don’t feel guilt from their day to day situations but can still feel empathy for others are the ones that deserve to unfold the opportunities.
      3) let life show you the potential. I’ve always believed there was a reason i belonged on this earth no matter how deep in the hole I got or how pathetic I felt that I would never want to offer value if no one knew of my tragedy. No one should ever feel like they have to contribute something back at the expense of their own well being and connection.
Anyways I’m very grateful for the casual yet creative approach of this short film. Maybe the arts really are an outlet for emotional drive and context that’s not recognized well enough these days. Feel free to reach out to me for anything, I’m more patient beyond belief and still work on my self compassion every day! Much love whether you are safe, struggling or out of the flames but still hope for things to make sense the way they can, and will. Don’t be afraid, always try something positive you’ve been in thought of and don’t ever give up.

That made me hate bullies, and if they dare to open their mouths against me or friends, now same sex couple or even to innocent unknown ppl i just turn so different
Like, i pass to emotionless towards bullies and all empathy dissapears, anger and vengeance,i don't feel pity, idc if they end bad or good, idc and if they have issues, idc if they later will regret or not. I just don't care ab anything when it's talking ab them.
Because the fact they can't understand they did wrong
I heard ab my old bullies nowadays life and they still harass, annoy, bully
      If it's not to me
      They do towards others
My ex was so annoying to me and said crap to me
Since i broke up with him, he now annoys other ppl with his words.
He doesn't care. If it's not me, will be another one.
If they victim is not X, will be Y.
They don't care ab anything, anyone or else.
They don't learn the lesson, think and change to be better persons
They just "care" for a while but then turns back to "normal" as always.
      They need to bully,annoy, disrepect,discriminate
And it's so Fuckin' disgusting, they find AMUSEMENT in that.
I hate a lot of things but don't discriminate or bully bc of it! It's easier to be polite, respect and have a conversation,if the thing i hate is harmless and it's just a subjective disliking and not a trait that is actually harmful or annoying objectively.
      Sh*t that they can't understand
I still remember their sadistic laughing faces/look on them when bullying me or others. The fact that was as a hierarchy
      They were in the top
And you all down there in darkness
That if u dared to tace them, they would go against you
The fact there was nice ppl too but didn't hang out with you because fear of being bullied,or they were bullied as well.
The fact they control the place
How i told teachers,my mom tried everything, but shit kept going on, bullying never ended, bullying still happened,i was maybe even bullied on public or alone and teachers never moved a finger to help me neither did classmates
How they're supposed to be forgiven? How can ppl ask me to forgive,if they keep being not pure?
How can my bsf tell me to move on,when he didn't experienced half the shit i did? Even i told him everything and even the how they did things to me?
So i just stay away from them and not have any kind of relationship,bc for me,they are not humans. Neither animals. Would be disrespectful to compare animals to those things.
Lately i knew ab my friend(girl) being bullied because she couldn't attend her bf bc final college exams. His friends(21 or above, while she being only 18) harassed her. Insulted/disrepect her. Made comments bc of that, social media,in hanging outs.
Fake parties, ended in a crack hole and getting wasted, and she being scared.
Indirects ab how she was a bad gf towards their friend.
The same ones who went homophobic towards me or my gay friend, the ones who said disgusting things to my mate with eating disorder ab her body
The ones who insulted us in quarantine while playing videogames
The ones who made scenes or victimist role and being so annoying
Those who were male chauvinist too.
      The same guys.
They didn't change. They're still the same
The ones who expect u to get wasted on discos or whatever or you're not cool, you're a freak and should commit OOF
      The trouble makers
ALWAYS talking ab topics in disrespectful and disgusting ways, instead of good manners ones.

As someone that got bullied for over 10 years, I never was the quiet one, I was "the outsider".
They called me freak, ugly, fat, really bad words of all kind, volcano...anything.
I always got angry and shouted back.
The teachers always heard me and thought I was the problem...
After a while, I thought that too..
I had su!cidal thoughts but I didn't want to be even more painful for my family, who's amazing.
On May 2022, a light came into my life, a new girl, a miracle, she was as lonely as me and we got on well from the start.
We became our torch in all that darkness.
We became best friends and, on March 2023, we met a guy from another school and we became "the outsiders trio".
We all slowly became less and less sad and on September, we all got in high school, in different classes, yes, but closer that I could ever wish for.
I met two girls like us on my new class and now we are "The freaktastic five plus one" (We know the name is cringe but we don't care anymore).
Btw I'm 15 and I'm sorry if there are mistakes, english isn't my first language.
    Edit after four months:
Well hi again, thank you for all the sweet comments!
Me and that new girl grew apart, she became really friends with one of the two new girls I introduced her to.
After two years of friendship she's like dead to me, again, I lost my best friend and my new friend as well.
We're not the freaktastic five anymore, sorry for the sad ending to my story but it's real life.
I am sad but not too much.
I am grateful for my boy best friend and my female best friend, the third one, the other 'new girl' even though it's been nine months already, school ends this week.
We are a trio again, the uncool trio, a lot changed but I can answer the question "are you okay?" with a smile on my face, "yes, I'm good, what about you?" and I'm not faking it.
You might think I'm either crazy or this is all made up at this point but I'll say to you that the only reason I'm still here and I'm happy through difficulties is Jesus.
He delivered me from bullying and from my anger issues and He saved me.

I started crying at that age and it still bought me into tears now. The old man despites me crying for no reason. He just hates me and my mom cry because he assume its something small or 'stupid.' He tells me to just laugh it off and some other stupid shit. He doesn't know that I've been picked on for my weight or becuase I had no friends and was the quiet kid.

But they had asseblies at my school about bulling but when I went to tell someone about it they were like "Okay we'll do something" Nothing happened. One day I ended up flipping of the younger kid and his sister the next day turned around and looked at me on the bus to school and said "We looked at the cameras yesterday and we saw you flip off my brother 7 times. He was crying" It pissed me off beyond my point and everything in me broke. They called me a fat b*tch saying that I went to different things because I was fat. Like okay Im not the skinniest person here but you don't have to point that out. When I first met her, the sister, I thought we were friends but it was a very toxic relationship for me. She said she despised me and when I confronted her the next day about it she said "I may have said i didn't LIKE you but I never said despised." GIRL I FREAKING CRIED THE REST OF THE WAY HOME FROM WHAT YOU SAID!! Anyway, they (school administration) Never EVER helped us with this.
I'm not saying there aren't people who will help you because there are lots of people out there who can help you!! You just need to find the right people who are willing to listen and help you, and if the person you're talking to won't listen then just leave and find someone you know will listen.

    • @kazuoua
      @kazuoua 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

@@Rollie-4DaPollie Right, for starters, victims of bullying usually don't get to have a "happy ending" as the epilogue of this short would make it seem. They either learn to tough it out or run away, somehow.
This is mainly for two reasons, the first one is that bullied people very soon become emotionally "damaged" and they are not great or fun people to be around. While from the outside they might look like the victims, they're seething with rage, pain and hormones so lashing out at the earliest chance is not uncommon. In the short it's kinda surprising how the overweight kid didn't develop romantic feelings for the girl almost right away, bullying develops a sort of Stockholm syndrome on the victims so any show of kindness or non-aggression to them can make their emotions go from 0 to 100 very quickly.
The second, related, reason is that people who don't like bullying, in general, normally prefer to stay away from the bullied. I imagine it's somewhat similar to the subconscious aversion you have for the sick. Maybe it's an evolutionary thing.
In my opinion, a more accurate depiction of bullying would show a more isolated, angry (not sad, ANGRY) and emotionally damaged victim with almost complete lack of social interaction. Sprinkle in some instances of Stockholm syndrome (like I mentioned before) and there you go. For the epilogue, you show the victim either having a complete mental collapse or learning to live with their trauma.

The tactic of the people at the top is to keep their victims isolated, so that they have power over them, if the victim talks back then it’s just one person that they laugh down as a group, along with their stupid insults, they seem clever with alot of sheeple, and other people have to isolate them or else they become victims themselves. This is why it’s important for victims to stick together, and it brings a whole new meaning to the saying “they only have power over you if you give it to them” you don’t need to just ignore them, you need outright to rebel.

I have the strange feeling that, even though I become a teacher, I may let students feel the same way. I was bullied in school, but now that I am about to change roles, I get the sensation that sometimes teachers really don't see what is going on right in front their own eyes. Often times, it is not seen, sometimes teachers tend to play it down because "its just kids being kids" , some don't even care. But, which I might think is the biggest factor, some are just afraid they won't be of help, and therefore look away. I also can't shake of the feeling that, as hard as it may sound, there will always be that one student who gets picked on...It is just something that happens when power is not weighted out...Just hope you all are doing ok. One tip from me: surround yourself with friends and people who understand you, you feel more powerful in a group and maybe even the bullies won't pick up then...

Being bullied feels like you're in a pool where a liquid filled with negative emotions is slowly rising and, without the right help or guidance, you eventually drown and are unable to get out.
