    ta-day I bought some zip ties at Lowes that have a loop made on to the end of them so when you pull them tight on your rod and clip off the tag end your left with a place to put your hook, no slit ring needed.

    Another good un, Keith. Appreciate you putting these together.
    I been using the hook keepers for quite a while.
    Got tired of untangling hooks and dropping lures in the bottom of my tackle box. Plus I got tired of getting stuck, when I'd grab a lure that was tangled, and trying to untangle I was guaranteed to get stuck at least once.
    There is one other hook hack you could've shown. You showed part of it, how to get unhooked, once you get hooked. Not fun any way you go at it. Cause you know, there's two type of fishermen, and fisherwomen, them that have got hooked .....and them that are gonna get hooked.
    Love your videos, brother. Ya'll stay safe on the water and getting there.
    God bless you and your family, and have a blessed day, my friend

    I stopped using treble hooks many years ago. It's just too much of a headache to remove them from the fish and me! I actually saw an angler get one stuck in his tongue!
    After placing the hook in the hook keeper on the rod, I wrap a small piece of blue painter's tape around it so the hook doesn't snag on anything. I also use rod socks.

    Hi Mate, love your hacks. I laughed at Carp fishing because in Australia they are a noxious pest and not to be returned to the water. They are often sucked up from the rivers and dispersed throughout our irrigation systems and find themselves in shallow dams where my Dad, brother and I usually shoot them with 12 gauges, 223, 243 or 308. It's the best fun and when hit, the exude a large oil slick. Just thought I'd share that with you. We do catch them from the rivers as a by catch when chasing Murray Cod and other native Australian fish. They aren't considered a table fish here but are very good fun to catch, and shoot. Just don't tell the tree huggers, they'll get upset.

    As a bass fisherman with using strictly lures I've been using those treble hook covers for year's. But I agree I've been on the water many fishing buddies over the year's and it's crazy how many don't know about those covers. When i was 5 too around 16 I mostly fished for catfish and carp but soon after 16yrs old I got into bass fishing hard-core and haven't looked back. But cat fishing was always alot of fun hooking into a nice big channel cat or mud cat. I fished the Delaware River most all those younger year's for cat's in Pennsylvania. Great video as always keep bring those great hacks and tips.

    @d-money5976 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good info with the vid...May I add if spray painting the hooks it might be best to put a tooth pick in the eye first.....Makes it easier to clear the eye after it dries....But take out tooth pick mid way of drying before it fully drys.....

  • @majorwayne9866
    @majorwayne9866 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    12:25 when painting hooks or jig heads, use a round toothpick in the eye to keep paint from filling the eye. For larger hooks with eyes too large for the toothpicks, you can get wooden shush kabob skewers.

  • @chrissewell1608
    @chrissewell1608 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am bad about putting to many crank / jerk baits into each slot in my tackle trays. An 8 slot tray suddenly holds 39 lures! Ta da... 🤗
    All those treble hooks get tangled up, into one giant mess of lure orgy! When you grab one, they all come out, then 7 stcik you in the hand! 😥 And 20 minutes later, you finally get that 1 favorite lure, you trust! 😮‍💨
    I have started to ditch the treble hooks, and replace each one with single hooks! The 39 lures fit better, don't get hung up nearly as bad, and are easier to seperate! And not as much bleeding hands and cursing! 😉👍

  • @ML-ks2lj

    I use pool noodle for my trolling spoons and husky jerks and storms and challengers and whatever other lures I use, mainly because I fish inland in a fast moving river so I use a 2 pound weight to three way to the main line to a bead. So I pre rig all my spoons with a leader I can just snap onto the three way. Then I use the bead as my slider and hook a 1 ounce sinker to a snap swivel and hook the swivel to my main line and let it slide on down to the bead.

    Another AWESOME 🎣 HACK episode Bro 👏 👍👍. Only one problem, catfish will engulf both of the baits 🤔. You are better off having 2 / 3 rods. With different baits on each rod, which baits gets hit first. Then go with that, but only using 2 rods. Keeping the 3rd rod as a different bait set up, as they will get tired of seeing the same baits. You need that POKER CARD ( Bait ) to through out , when thay stop playing 😉

    I'm wondering if thread or paracord inner strands won't work instead of heat shrink tubing for the first hack and I know that an old dental floss container will serve just fine for a hook tyer. Simply pop it open, empty the guts, and there is a plastic cylinder inside that is perfect for holding the hook. Open the now empty floss container, place the hook around the cylinder (it is attached), close the container around the hook with the eye going out the hole the floss comes out of (may need to be enlarged for bigger sizes) close it, rig it, reopen the floss box, remove the hook. Smaller hooks can just be clamped in the box with the eye exposed instead of trying to get them around the cylinder. Since we either are buying floss or are getting it from the dentist, this makes the hook tyer free which is my favorite price 8-P

    I'm also working on the easiest method of converting a prescription pill bottle into a slide-on hook keeper. I already use something for a hook keeper but I don't know that it is a viable replacement for everyone cuz not everyone will have access to them. I use medical marijuana for pain, almost exclusively concentrates. As such, I either get these little vials < 1/2" across made with a lid of silicone which I cut a straight line to the center and then rough cut the center for the hook. Twist slightly to slide hook into the lid, center the hook in the hole, and press firmly but only enough to pierce and not enough to penetrate fully. This then becomes a hook keeper either with or without the container attached. The other item I usually get for packaging are these small (~2" high by 1" wide), resealable bags that are perfect for small, premade rigs and or small bags for holding all the pieces for a particular rig so you don't have to go looking for something and risk spilling the main containers. Perhaps snack bags from the $1.25 Store will work, lol.

    Use Magnets! to keep track of hooks. In the top tray of your tackle box stick a magnet with black electrical tape and your spare hooks are going nowhere. When I was salmon fishing at Devil Gorge , a ''friend'' opened didn't latch my tackle box [which is second nature to me]. I picked it up , it spilled. Through the pier gaps I lost a lot of rubber eggs but no hooks. Why? a magnet! Also do you have a little box of size 12 hooks ? toss a magnet in there they will be much easier to grab. works good for small jigs too.

    So hack for you = buy something that you can make at home. A hack is usually a neat or cheap way to achieve a common task. Not just a consumer trap to buy more plastic crap. Coolest diy thing I've seen for trebles/hooks is using cut up wine cork to cover the hooks.

    I have to say that I am torn between your amazing creativity and you corny humor. But either way you do a fantastic job of showing people how to save money and being efficient and safe. Thank you so much and please keep the videos coming. P.S. It's fine for you to share the hacks other people have come up with. Once again thanks for all you do. Tight lines my friend.

    Thanks for this video. I bought some jigs and they had a slight gap in the hook eyes. Unfortunately I lost a few crappie from this. The hook eyes are small but I'm going to try your shrink wrap tip. Very cool.

    Regarding the Rooster Tails Keith, instead of ruining your treble, you can just hang a single hook on your split ring. You know what I'm sayin'? Ba ha ha ha!
    Good hacks bud!

    , I use a regular file to sharpen my hooks using a surgeon's technique. The outside of the point if flat and I file the rest of the hook into a triangle point.
