Most doctors follow the guidelines given to them by the american heart association, failing to do that may put doctors in jeopardy. Guidelines need to change. Those who put these guidelines and the industry behind it need to be judged

When I moved to northeastern CA, I became friends with an old Arkie with the 4th grade education and he had a better vocabulary than the kids I cleaned up after in the high school I worked at. He could fix anything mechanical or electronic. He helped teach me how to work on my truck ( brakes, points, Ujoints, etc.). And his brother was similar but had designed nuclear power plants. So the education of children decades ago was better quality than today.

The beauty of bacon is, it goes with anything. With seafoods like oysters and mussels, salmon and liver and steak. With Sausages and eggs and beans although you shoudn't eat the baked beans but just a few might not hurt. There's sugar in baked beans.

Instead of artificial sweeteners, there are brands of stevia and stevia extract that can be used to lightly sweeten foods without adding calories. Aspartame is a neurotoxin. Other artifiical sweeteners have other unwanted effects. Stevia has no side effects that I know of. The better brands do not taste exactly like sugar, but are pretty close when incorporated with other flavors. Like all non-sugar sweeteners, they may spike insulin in some people. However, Dr. Westeman probably has more experience on helping people to loose excess weight on LCHF diets than anyone else on Earth, so stevia seems worth trying- instead of giving into sugar cravings by eating sugar.

Dr Westman’s book describes phase 1 (the equivalent of “page 4” in this presentation), phase 2, and phase 3. You start on phase 1. After you reach your goals (In your case the weight loss you have enjoyed) then you can transition to phase 2. It relaxes the strictness of how much carbohydrate you can have per day. After you have been on phase 2 for awhile, and if everything is going great still, you can transition to phase 3. Phase three relaxes the carbohydrate restrictions even more. It is only for people who are already healthy and doing great or have achieved a state of good health by first following phase 1, then phase 2. If you find you are starting to have problems again after changing to phase 3 or phase 2, go back down to phase you were on while everything was great. I suggest you get his book. You sound ready to advance to the next phase.

I sincerely hope for the best for you. Sounds like you’ ve already been doing great! I hope you have a healthy and enjoyable life!

Yvonne Norton ketogenic diet is a fat burning diet not weight loss diet (unless someone has excess fat stored). You would need to eat adequate protein for building muscle which is the kind of weight you really want to gain. Then eat as much dietary fat as you need for energy.

Now I know that is bad not just for the PUFA but also for the high levels of herbicides and pesticides. Of they used tallow, that would be fine, but I don't think anyone uses tallow anymore.

Belinda Ray partly but not completely. Increased insulin tells the body to store fat. Lowering insulin triggers the body to burn excess fat. When the body sees it has surplus it will shut off appetite. I lost about 15lbs initially without restricting calories because I wanted to keep calories up to lift heavy in the gym. I practically had to force feed myself.

Over time, for most people, eating a very low carb and high fat diet allows them to stop worrying about calories BECAUSE the fat and protein signal the body to stop eating when it has what it needs.
Sugar, starch, and other additives like monosodium glutamate (MSG) override our bodies' natural ability to regulate how much we eat.
So hopefully one day you will not have to worry about counting calories, but in the end, whatever works for you works!

On jerkey, beef or otherwise - In the U.S.A., most commercially available jerky has quite a bit of added sugar. READ THE LABEL.
This is done partly for the same reason that sugar, in one form or another, is added to virtually all processed foods- to get us to eat more. It is also used as a preservative, to allow the jerky to be softer and higher in moisture, without a bunch of chemical preservatives. The sugar content of some brands is so high that the jerky actually tastes sweet (at least to those who have removed processed and restaurant foods from their diets; many restaurants add sugar to a lot of foods, not just desserts). One brand of bacon jerky we now call 'dessert bacon'. It tastes disgusting.
It is far healthier to eat drier jerky, allowing it to soften in the mouth, than to eat softer jerky with sugar, or other preservatives. We can make our own at home (search TH-cam for directions; it is not difficult!). And we can contact the jerky manufacturers and let them know we want zero added sugars or other carbs in our jerky!

"I'm not having carbonation" is funny, but I think it also reveals how our minds trick ourselves. You are a doctor, high position, esteemed, well paid. You don't have to spend as much effort as someone lower down the social hierarchy explaining to yourself 'that everything is really okay.' I'm an annoying guy, but trust me, when I went out to dinner with the family I would be put on the spot, why don't you drink? why don't you want to eat the sausage? why do you exercise so much? why aren't you this or that? My students think I'm flat out lying because they can't imagine an adult who doesn't either drink alcohol or smoke weed. She wants to change, but probably almost everyone in her life just wants her to do what they do, what she's always done.
Me? I'm annoying, I will say to my family, students, friends, "No, thanks," and I will pay, and have paid, a steep social cost. (They don't want us to be diabetics who have strokes and heart attacks, but they also don't want us doing anything that might challenge what they've always done. )
I'm transitioning to a LCHF diet, so I'm still eating some of this and that, but I'm doing daily 16 hour fasts, and they're not that difficult, and I have keto mouth, so I'm onboard. But I found some videos that say eating canola oil is bad, okay. Olive oil, not much better--really? I accept what I've learned about LCHF because I've done some of it and it clearly works, and the videos I've seen and articles I've read make sense . But the people talking about the oils, they titter in a way that reminds me of group-think, (like cults). I don't think LCHF is a fad or a cult, but the people talking about the oils have three problems: first, they show that as meat consumption when down, diabetes went up (and they titter), that's correlation is not causation, second, they mention all the terrible things that happen to oil when it's processed and heated up. Well, a barbecue is basically a fractionating tower at a refinery--and they never say don't burn your meat. And third, they don't offer clear alternatives, except red meat and lard. Butter, I already understand.
So the lady who's cut out the soda but is still drinking orange juice, give her an alternative.
Butter tea? I remember reading about Tibetans drinking bitter greasy butter tea. Sounded awful. I was in Yunnan Province in China, I'd just done a twenty mile hike, very little food. I arrived back in Lijiang and thought I'll try the Tibetan restaurant Mama Lus. Butter tea? Sure, I'll try it. It was terrific.
I'll bet if you tell that nice lady, I want you to drink one of three things: water, butter coffee or butter tea-- that's it. Then send her home with a recipe for butter tea/coffee. Tell her to make a cup as soon as she gets home. She will never even look at another soda and she'll serve it to her family and friends. No doesn't work. Our brains under stress only hear positives: give her a 'yes' and she'll do it.

It's too bad it has to get to the point at which people need such a drastic intervention. I don't have diabetes nor even pre-diabetes but I have cut nearly all sugar and most flour, as well as seed oils and ultra-processed snack foods as I have aged. I have even cut my beloved legumes and whole rye. I guess if I had developed diabetes, I might be sorry for my old indulgences, but the thought of having gone through life never having had sweets, bread, or fruits is a little depressing. Most of the overeating I have done in my life has NOT been when I was hungry. But for the people whose genetics makes them especially susceptible, I'm glad there is a non-prescription remedy. I wish my affected family members were willing to get on board. I know someone will call me a bleeding heart liberal or the like when I say it's sad what pigs have to go through so that a diabetic can eat all the bacon she wants. It is one of the cruelest meat industries out there.

If you have problems with your stomach and some fool doctor told you that you have a lot of acid in your stomach and recommends some form of stomach acid potion that will lower the acid. You will be in a world of hurt, in fact most of the problems were due to low stomach acid, which means you are not digesting your foods, and you could also possibly have a stomach ulcer, because low stomach acid allows bad bacteria to flourish. Milk of magnesia lowers stomach acid and there are many side effects that are troubling.
