    Let's tame that beast by learning what it is, where it is and how you can determine what needs to stay and what needs to go.

    This is a good video, and helped me get some insight into the storage issue on my 64gb model. One thing I will say is your shader cache really depends on the game - Metro Exodus had almost 9gb worth (though much of that was in video files), I ultimately uninstalled it until my ssd upgrade arrives. Point is they aren't all a gig at the most.

    • @Darkuni
      @Darkuni  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You could try using the menu and SCAN A DISK and make sure that HOME is chosen. Anything you can write to has to be in that folder hierarchy. NON-STEAM can be almost anything - downloads, mods, videos you recorded, screenshots, roms, bios files ... anything that you don't see listed on the Deck's STORAGE page that isn't a shader cache. You're on the latest OS right? Earlier builds didn't distinguish shaders from "non-steam" so it got confusing. Perhaps we could help more on Discord?

    I switched my previous micro SD card (256gb) without uninstalling any games and placed a new micro SD (512gb) and the steam deck shows a ton of “other”. I only have 2 games and use the 64gb steam deck. How do you know which one is the old install and the new install?

    • @Darkuni
      @Darkuni  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it doesn't matter what SD card is in your deck. Once you've installed something the support files get installed on the internal storage and they go nowhere until you uninstall the original game.

    • @eduardomancia4958

      @@Darkuni thank you. So basically, you have to uninstall everything before using a new micro SD in order to get rid of the files and its redundant data. In my case, I just switched the micro SD and the steam deck redownloaded both games and a significant additional cache data which is probably repeat data. It went from 5gb to 11gb of “other” just by switching the micro SD cards without uninstalling both games.
