I love learning about a game that appeals to me, hearing it's good, and then playing it all within a week or so. So much more fun than 2 years of garbage marketing etc.
@@saulg195 xcom may still be the best its kinda old at this point. That being said I find it kinda interest how most of the games that fit into xcom's mold are free on microsoft's game pass. Most notably being the mafia game (i forget the name) or of course gears: tactics. phoenix rising and shadowrun are both also very good in this genre and on game pass.
I wanted to come back to this review, and thank you for your coverage. I would have never heard of this game if it weren't for you. It is a fantastic game. The combat is very similar to Gears Tactics, which is also a great underappreciated game. I am surprised you haven't given that a go.
@Mortismal: I appreciate your structured approach and also slicing the video including YT segments. I came here to find out about the progression system only and with a single click I got what I was looking for. Thank you for your service 🙂
Seriously keep making video I enjoy it very much :) I usually buy some of my games depending on your videos because I play the same way you do! Keep on grinding :D
So i bought this last night because of your recommendation and it is... FUN! love it about 2 hours in i paid like 26 bucks...... you have not steered me wrong yet Brother keep it up!
Nice review! I also saw this game featured in one of your other recent videos about games you didn’t expect to be so good. I picked this up on sale and am loving it so far. It’s entertaining and fun.
I love isometric turn-based games, how come I've never heard of this game before? Was going to play Redfall tomorrow, now I'll play this game instead. Thanks for the review.
Your channel is great. Came to your channel because who could give a more comprehensive review on a game than someone who has 100% it and beyond? You do great breakdowns and it's really appreciated. But yeah, definitely get some sleep man.
This game hasn't been released yet and you 100% it already. At this point I think this is just another day in the office for you. Will check this game out!
Grabbed this one from sale, as it now also has a free story extending DLC with some extra hard battles. Really fun game, it's voice-acted well too. Action economy is bit brutal in first levels, as you only have two characters and no access to anything that gives you extra. Leading to some battles to feel bit like puzzles where you have to go about things in a very specific way and also not get bad RNG like getting hit in full cover from long range. Around act 3-4 you get more things to play with and it opens up. Well worth the small price of admission, I'd really like to see same crew make a much bigger game set in this world, with just more of everything.
I was on the fence with this one after the demo as the style was absolutely magnificent, but the systems seemed a bit basic with just the single combat episode and no view of the kind of "meta" progression and exploration layer between fights. This layer is critical in any strategy RPG / XCOM-like game. Looks like you nailed the $30 valuation, and I think that's enough to tip it into the buy territory. Thanks!
I thought this game looks familiar lol. SplattercatGaming cover this game back in October last year under the name 'Homicidal All-Stars" and he just released the updated cover today with the new names and I was so confused. Didn't knew they changed the original name. Seems like both of you liked it and I gotta check it... until I saw the 72 bucks price tag. Sucks to be living in a 3rd world country. Going to be in my wishlist for sure but man, I'm going to wait for a discount. Don't think it's worth that much imo.
Finally grabbed this during the recent steam sale. This is one of my favorite "XCOM" type games that I've played in a while. I'm about halfway through and they do a great job of keeping the fights fresh so far. The story is a little frustrating because it has elements of goodness but doesnt cohere into something better than the individual scenes, which aren't that great. It either needed to go even crazier, or pair it back so not so much time is taken up by it. I imagine it will have no replay value but it's worthy pickup for sure.
This game looks good I think I will give it a go :D Once more a reminder for the Banner Saga Trilogy :D I'm sorry, but I shall not rest (not taking into account long pauses in between each reminded) until it's reviewed {D
Seen as XCOM is kinda in limbo (especially with both Jake Solomon and Garth Deangelis leaving Firaxis), I'll take all the Turn-Based Tactical Skirmish games I can. I was thinking though what I think XCOM 2 has done that no other game has came close to even achieving is with the Character Pool. I don't mind playing as set characters but XCOM 2 really nails the these are "your dudes" it's your story and these are your characters. I still spend hours creating characters to watch them die horrifically, if XCOM 3 ever gets greenlit... I sure do hope that is a returning feature. It's actually why I really like playing Tabletop Skirmish games like Warhammer 40k: Kill Team because the miniatures you use are your dudes and you can create little backstories about them, it doesn't have a purpose beyond Role-Playing but it's what makes those games special.
Thanks for the review, and congrats on the code. If this is successful, I'll be curious where they take the sequel. Saints Row was a GTA 3 clone, but really discovered its identity in Saints Row 2. Onward to 200k. All glory to the algorithm.
KEEP ON PUMPING THEM OUT! I watch evey one man Edit: theres a lot of people in the comments who are just jealous of your amazing work ethic ;) dont let them hold you back
When I first heard about this I thought it was a new "Manhunt" with a standard "Baldur's Gate" style cRPG interface. I like some of the extra objectives. Keeping it on my watchlist. *Edit Well, Grammarly struck again, and changed Baldur, but hey, I guess nouns are more difficult for it to understand.
@@sleepalaska Blame Grammarly, it auto-changes almost everything for me. I swear, it all appears green then by the time I click post it changes the words like a delay. But thank you, I'll edit it.
It's just not something I can do while also sustaining my current rate of work, I tried here and there, and you can find those streams on the channel still but being on camera trying to be entertaining or engaged with people for potentially 10-16hrs a day is very different from just being hyper focused on the game itself.
This dynamic mode sounds fun - sad that its like Nemesis from Shadow of War or unique ideas of other games, something we see once in a while and then probably not anymore or at least not often. And if games uses something like this, there is a 50/50 chance it is implimented good or not, which is also sad. Either way cool review.
I was wondering why this game seemed so familiar to homicidal all stars ahah I even checked my wish list thinking it was a different game but no longer saw that title.
Just got my 100% and i absolutely loved the game. The characters backgrounds are very well written, the soundtrack is amazing, and the free DLC gives a lot of hardcore battles that you can use your entire team at once.
look into Colony Ship - A Post-Earth Role Playing Game as its same genre and that game is made by a good game studio, im about to start a playthrough myself. Hopefully its as well written as Age of Decadence
You can switch between two characters during exploration, and not currently but I believe they have cosmetic stuff like skins planned in some form down the line
I watched another review of this and that other reviewer seemed to offer nothing but praise for this. But after watching your review, I might pass on this. Not that I think I'll hate it, but IDK if its something I want to invest time into (my backlog's pretty big now).
Looks like XCOM Chimera Squad more than XCOM 2 in regards to the character customization being locked to the specific character. Bit of a bummer, but maybe there will be mod support. What does the completion time for this game look like?
I love the look of this game but the biggest deal breaker for me is how short it is. Games like this I want it to last a lot longer. So hearing how short it is was very disappointing.

I would love to see a Shadowrun Trilogy remake with these graphics.
Love that this genre is going strong. We got a ridiculous number of strategy rpgs in 2022.
some recommendations please?
