Been thinking about buying these. My only suggestion for marking your holes, would be to use painters tape. Tape along the side of the bracket, punch through your 2 bolt holes, take off the tape, and place it where you want the bracket to go. Love your vids!
That looks like a lot of trouble and I worry about twisting the frame rails that were weakened by those big holes when I do bump into something. I used the bolt-on skid plates that add another 1/8 inch of steel to scrape on the pavement, but thanks for the video. Would be interested to see how well those wheels hold up after a few years.
I liked your video, I have two suggestions. First I put masking tape in the rails and marked that (One at a time) with a pencil. I then dimpled the location where I needed to drill the smaller hole first. Second I put a strip of duck tape on the body components in the area where I drilled the holes. This prevented the drill chuck from coming into contact with the body components. Keep the videos coming.
Good job as always Chris! I went with FANGS on my C5... They do a great job of protecting the front end against concrete barriers or whatever you bottom out on, plus they look awesome! I've had them on there for the past seven years without a single hiccup... Super easy to install... Thumbs up on this upload as usual... Stay safe... Rico
Fangs????? Excuse my ignorance but could you send me a site showing what you are talking about? I've known about the wheels he showed but I haven't heard of fangs. I won't be putting a splitter on mine and was going to get the wheels like he showed because I thought that was the one and only thing sold to add on. I'm totally destroying the air dam and they get exspensive after purchasing the 4th one.
Hi Chris! Trying to catch up on a few of your older vids. Don’t understand why these skid bar wheels didn’t protect your carbon fiber front splitter recently? Maybe splitter just hangs down too far? How did the repair or replace of it go? Learning so much for when I get my C5 by the end of the year!
Good modification for protection. I did the same one from the same company. However, it can be a bit harrowing when you hear them “in action” doing their job.
Not a "bash bar". That is your radiator support bracket. Those 2 bars are actually part of one larger piece. It is NOT intended to support the weight of your car, even with those little wheels.
You are partially correct. It is part of the radiation support, but it is also a skid plate. That’s is why they are exposed below the bumper. It doesn’t hold the weight of the entire car. Maybe 1/8th of it going in and out of a driveway.
My two cents, if you bottom out those bolts will have no trouble snapping and your whole roller assembly falling off. That one bolt won’t cut it. personally have the skid plates. But nice video as always
A 5/16” grade 8 bolt has a shear strength of nearly 7,000lbs. I think it’ll be ok. I need more than 1/8” clearance that the skid plates provide for the front splitter I’m installing.
I personally haven’t but it is a common issue. There was even a recall on it, but even GMs recall didn’t fix the issue 100%. There is a fix for it though. There is a bypass module you need to install. Here is a how-to. www.superchevy.com/how-to/vemp-0808-c5-corvette-steering-lock-repair

Hi Chris... it's bad idea to go with these wheels they are just easy to get bend it up if you hit something depends. !!! And when this happens it will bend up the bar too .. it's only 1 secrow to hold it plus you drill that metal and you make it more more worse ... Must owner for the C5 and c6 they buy the best guard from saccitycorvette.com ..no drill heavy duty made in USA 👍 there is video from saccitycorvette in TH-cam to show you how you put it very easy ...in the end it's up to you ...
@@mycorvettelife yup they are but not the perfect as that one from saccitycorvette some owners get the problem with the wheels depends how you hit anyway thank's for reply 👍
Hey man, I found a 2004 Vette with 100k miles for 11k. It just needs some odds and ends, the most costly of which will be new leather seat covers, which cost 1k then 300 for installation. Hey do you have a email or something so fans can exchange pics of their Corvettes? Thanks!
@@mycorvettelife Thanks man, hey maybe you could set up some kind of fan page where we can share pictures of our Corvettes. I live in NYS so I won't be able to visit, lol!
I just sold my C6 and bought a 5 series BMW im just waiting for C7 prices to drop and dumped the C6 while it was still worth a 15k trade in at the dealer. Great mod Chris always enjoy your videos.
Hi Chris, I don't think these are a good idea. The brackets for the wheels are only attached to one side of the frame and the frame thickness is a lot thinner than the wheel brackets. If you enter your drive way at an angle you'll be putting more weight on one corner, I think you will just bend the frame either way.
I agree on that. I thought about this or the skid plate but wouldn't work for me since I drive all over and many areas I just clear the frame and I'm on stock height. More than likely I would cause more damage with these on.
Hi, With the wheels you lose a lot of ground clearance especially if your lowered, plus they don't protect the front of the skid bar. So the skid plate scrapes until the wheel hits and then it put a heavy load on one section of the bar that can cause bending. Here is a different solution where you only lose 1/8" clearance and protect the entire bar. Check out the videos. www.saccitycorvette.com/C5Fangs.html Thanks Christian
I really don't like that design.. the bolts put into one side like that.. just doesn't seem strong. Is it just me or is the C5 just the best looking car, I mean vs the c6 or c7.. or c4.. idk. Maybe I'm wrong, but the c5 is just clean and flat!
Wow, I can’t agree with this. All your really done is lower your clearance by another 1” to 2”? Doesn’t make much sense to me. You’ll find on TH-cam simple thick plates which mount on these skid bars. Seems to be more practical and you’re not lowering your clearance. Sometimes more is not best. I do enjoy your channel but I can’t see this as being an advantage.
They have been working out great. The point of these wheels IS to lower the clearance so it hits the wheels and not my splitter. If I used the plates that you mentioned my splitter would get destroyed.

Center punch your markings before drilling then paint the skid bars to hide the rust.
Thanks for a great install video. I plan to go this route in the near future.
Nice videos i like these informative vlogs. Good to know another way of doing something.

I would ha e gone that route if I wasn’t doing the front splitter. These wheels give me an extra inch of clearance.

Just depends on the angle. These wheels do help, but only to an extent.

You can get Corbeau A4 Seats for $1000. That’s what I have in my car. Install is easy, it’s just 4 bolts. Save your money and do it yourself.

My seats were trashed in my 98 and I got some nice 2 tone c6z seats for $500 for the pair and what a difference
you could 'maybe' spray some paint or something just to make the mark for the holes since it's going to be drilled out...lust thinking out loud
It a lower radiator support.
Gotta get some wheels, then I can lower the suspension👍
I can't see those wheels lasting very long , especially with that one hole so close to the edge ! That is gonna rip right out
So far they are still intact.
I'd get a flush piece of metal, an extension, & just have a muffler shop tack weld it on IMO bruhhhh

I was wondering that myself. Seems like a lot of weight for the bolts to support should significant pressure be put on them
I agree on that. I thought about this or the skid plate but wouldn't work for me since I drive all over and many areas I just clear the frame and I'm on stock height. More than likely I would cause more damage with these on.
I would just weld a piece of rebar to the bottom of the rail
Seems dangerous if it should snap off but it's a cheap idea and many of us do like saving money
You just added weight & reduced the drag coefficient bruhhhh
I noticed that you don't have a chin up front
Coming soon.
