As a Soft Dramatic, my face is noticeably more yang than yin. I once had a relationship with a man who wanted me to curl my hair and wow, it looked wrong and was very aging. Wavy hair is great on me, but taking it to curly was a big mistake. So was he. :D
I'm sharpened moderate, and I can feel your pain on the curly hair! To be fair, it was curly hair styled as for a pure rounded type. My entire family agreed that I should NEVER curl my hair. I was like an awkward poodle. It was uncomfortable to look at.
As an SD with naturally curly hair, I swear my natural hair ages me terribly. It really doesn't look good on me -- straightening it or having large waves in make me look my age.
Very interesting! I’m a soft dramatic and curls look really good on me. I always do voluminous bombshell curls. Most hairstyles look good on me except when I slick back my hair into a bun. I look like a potato 😂
Thanks for this video. As a soft dramatic, I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that dressing like a flamboyant gamine or classic is not the best look for me.For example, I prefer simple, delicate, small vintage jewelry which likely gets lost on me or just makes me look bigger.
I feel the same. I don't know about vintage jewelry, but the type of delicate jewelry, that was very much in fashion these last couple years, doesn't suit me at all. What suits me are big, bold statement pieces. Lol. Not sure, if I'm into those, but the couple times I tried, they did look 'right' on me, somehow.
Vintage, go for big classic floral dress. Dresses with big floral patterns look so perfect on us you wouldn’t believe! Chocker necklaces and band bracelets of charm bracelets look good as well. Big purses are good too, I brought this pillow purse from Marc Jacobs and with the big floral design I thought I was gonna look like a old lady. Turns out, it makes me look classy and kinda like a diva, which is fine by me, lol.
I appreciate your observation about how certain lines emphasize sexiness on one body type but look sharp on others. For instance, garments that look appropriate for the office on me (flamboyant gamine) make my soft gamine daughter look like the dirty librarian. Conversely, appropriate garments for work on her leave me looking dowdy and unpolished.
That is hilarious! I've experienced that myself. Casual tank tops and shorts that look wholesome and sporty on a Natural just look sexy on me as a Soft Dramatic. I really have to watch what I wear; I don't care to look like I'm interviewing for a job at a massage parlor (not the legitimate kind). :D
@@edennis3202 same....my mother was always making me dress "appropriately" but she would let my other 3 sisters wear the clothes I wanted to because they looked cute in them as opposed to sexy. As a curvy soft dramatic, it's difficult to walk the line between oversized matronly clothes and overly sensual looks
You literally said exactly what I always say about being soft dramatic ! We put on a white blouse and black pencil skirt and look like porn star sexy librarians! 😂
Very nice video! I'm a sharpened soft type and everything you said really makes sense to me. My face has slightly more sharp features,so a lot of blended makeup looks a bit off on me. Like, it ages me. I don't know why that is. Clean, bold eyeliner and moderate matte lip looks best. Cuffs and tapering on pants and shirts is okay as long as they hit below the wrist bone and ankle. If they stop just above either one it looks like I outgrew my clothes, even if I'm wearing the right size. I am still learning about the best ways to wear shirts. Usually when I tuck them in they can look like I'm cutting off my vertical line. I have some trial and error still to do in that area.
I wonder if you have some blended elements to you as well. The make up stuff especially and the not too long not too short stuff sound like Blended-Sharpened.
Thank you so much 💕There are no Russian-language videos on this topic. Thanks to you, I am learning a lot and improving my English.Hello from Moscow ☺🥰
I hope this advice is helpful: I think you would reach more people if your 'homepage' on this channel had more videos. Now there we only see your latest videos, and many people don't look further I think when they try to look for more things on your channel. Maybe you could make playlists and display those on the homepage here? Anyways thanks for another great video!
I don't know yet.... I might do a few like this, let's see how people like it. I think I'll try to fill in body types that I haven't talked about as much on the channel first. :)
I haven't been able to keep up with your videos lately so I haven't been here in awhile. I was lucky enough to find you in the early days. So glad I'm back again. You never fail to amaze me! ❤️ Thank you!
Hi, could you make a video about colors for redheads. Because i have warm hair color (natural redheads) but cool skin undertone. I feel like gold jewelry looks beter on me because of my red hair. I would love to get a piece of your brain with your thoughts on this whole redhead thing. Love your videos xx
This is very helpful and interesting (one of my best friends is a Soft Dramatic and we chat about clothes/fashion a lot). Definitely helps me understand this body type a lot more. Would love to see one for dramatic classic too ❤️❤️
I really love these kind of videos where you draw figures it's more comprehensive for me ,would you please make one for soft classic ? thank you merriam !!
It's hilarious abt the "sexy" looks, I can't wear a fitted white (womens) shirt, with a pencil skirt (of apropriate length) no matter what I look as if I'm dressed for the sexy secretary trope in a porno TT I've learned to always go for mens wear. It takes away the overly sexy and it also fit my proportions, since I'm rather tall. Trousers is hard though since I've got hips lol
Absolutely! I see so many cute outfits now but on SD like myself I look very sexual without trying! Even a female coworker said “wow you’re really putting it all out there today!” When I was in a workout set ! Meanwhile the other girls can wear the same and not look like they are “showing off” their assets. I call it the curse of the soft dramatic lol !
I get it now, the point of color analysis & body geometry is to match who you are inside and what you look like/wear on the outside so that everything aligns. You are who you appear to be. Kibbe and the million color seasons seem to be created for confusion.
I have been waiting with bated breath to see a new merriam style video show up! So happy to take a minute to myself to watch and sip this morning! How often do you post new videos on club?
Aw! More or less as often or slightly more often than I do to youtube. It's been slower on club too but I posted a longer QA in the past few weeks on club.
I watched a video called "Camille | The real style icon in Emily in Paris" and i'm wondering if the actress is a classic because she gathers attention by wearing understated pieces. I would be delighted if you made a video about her. :)
Dear Merriam, I just got some embellished cowgirl boots today but I don’t know if they look good on my Soft Dramatic self 😂 what shoes or boots would you recommend?
Im a FN in a family of SDs and D lol so most of my ideas of style match more to this than to what fits FN. my moms side of the family is extremely tall (5’10+ for women) while my dads side is average and athletic giving me an athletic slightly tall look.
Does cool and delicate look better in cool and radiant color or warm and delicate color ? I know they look best in cool and delicate color but I just wondering do they look better in CR color or WD color please answer .. love you ❣
She actually said it doesn't matter if the hair is straight or curly, just that it the outline of the hair is soft and rounded. You can achieve that with curly hair. Just make sure you use the right products for your hair to keep it nice and soft and shiny and avoid frizz and maybe keep it on the longer side, should be fine
Merriam, I was wondering, if I love color blocking, how can I do that as a SN? i wonder how can color structure work depending the different bodytypes. Also bc I have yin more than yang, are dark colors fighting that? Please let me know :/
Wow, all of this stuff suits me really well. I never knew I could be soft dramatic because I am short 5ft 2 however I have soft and sharp features. Also have a bit of an hour glass figure so I always thought I was romantic style but the romantic style looks too heavy on me.
Can you please do a video about hip dips (bone structure)? Is it related to kibbe body type? Can a theatrical romantic have hip dips? When I want younger I was slightly overweight and thought I had bigger bones regarding my hips and shoulders. I now know what hip dips are and that's what made me feel bigger boned and the feeling of having big hips. I thought I had broad shoulders but I don't really. I'm quite confident I am theatrical romantic (in terms of other criteria) but I was just wondering about hip dips, which isn't so "delicate" in terms of bone structure.
Why do you say that soft large hair shape fits the soft face better, while at the same time sharp eye makeup brings out the softness better. Shouldn’t then sharp hair bring out the softness (as is does with the eyes)? Confused...
I think the distinction would be between what *fits* the softness and what *brings out* the softness. If I understand right, the soft large shapes in the hair just look right in a sharpened soft type. Sharp shapes in the hair would bring out the softness more (maybe to interesting, sexy effect if it was intentional, but might look like there's some mismatch if not done intentionally). The sharp eye makeup brings out the softness and thus looks sexy, but the softened makeup just looks right.
Hi Merriem, could please type Marina (Marina and the Diamonds). I think she is Some kind of Mixed (FG) , but people also type her as SN, TR, SD. She has a very hourglass figure, but she is also working out a lot.
As a Soft Dramatic, my face is noticeably more yang than yin. I once had a relationship with a man who wanted me to curl my hair and wow, it looked wrong and was very aging. Wavy hair is great on me, but taking it to curly was a big mistake. So was he. :D

Curly hair looks awful on me. I can do wavy; never curly.
As an SD with naturally curly hair, I swear my natural hair ages me terribly. It really doesn't look good on me -- straightening it or having large waves in make me look my age.
You gotta do BIG curls or have a BIG shape with the curls. Wavy looks great too
Very interesting! I’m a soft dramatic and curls look really good on me. I always do voluminous bombshell curls.
