  • In this video, I show a demo of an exercise where I dared to challenge my creativity by diving into two intuitive abstract warm-up paintings in just 15 minutes, guided by a single art prompt. This challenge is not just about painting; it's about working on your creativity, pushing your comfort zone, and igniting the flame of artistic growth.
    This art prompt challenge is a fantastic way to spur creativity and get those artistic juices flowing. Using #39 from "50 Abstract Warm-Up Painting Prompts" (www.etsy.com/listing/16615441..., I was tasked with creating intuitive abstract paintings with white margins, using acrylics and incorporating marks made by pen or pencil. This prompt encouraged me not to paint to the margins, leaving the edges rough and imperfect, a reminder that art doesn't have to fit into a neat box.

    This timed warm-up painting session was a testament to the power of intuition and instinct. With only 15 minutes on the clock, I had to rely on my gut feelings, making quick, spontaneous decisions that led to unexpected and sometimes surprising results. It was a liberating experience, reducing the tendency to overthink and allowing for more freedom and expression in my acrylic painting demo.
    Engaging in this art prompt exercise was a clear reminder to challenge your creativity. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, encouraging me to experiment with colors and techniques I might not typically use. The beauty of intuitive abstract painting is that it's all about exploration and expression, without the pressure of creating a masterpiece.
    Throughout this acrylic painting demo, I realized that these challenges are crucial for artistic growth. They not only help in developing a more instinctive approach to art but also in building confidence and discovering new possibilities. Each attempt, whether successful or not, is a step forward in this journey of creativity.
    So, if you're looking to push your comfort zone and challenge your creativity, why not give intuitive abstract painting a try? It's an opportunity to explore, learn, and grow as an artist. And remember, it's not just about the end result; it's about the process, the exploration, and the fun of creation.
    And remember, keep on painting!
    Acrylic paint colors used in this painting demo:
    Cerulean Blue
    Hansa Yellow
    Cadmium Red
    Titanium White

    I started watching your channel about a week ago, and after the first few videos, I subscribed. I just love your ideas. I used to take classes from a well known art teacher in Florida, who sadly is now deceased. She always started her classes with two five minute warmups. I’ve tried six of your warmups so far and look forward to trying more.

    Thanks for another good exercise, Chris. I really like the idea of not painting to the margins but it opens up a whole ball of wax for me: how do I not end up with a victorian "vignette" effect; on canvas, should the entire field first be painted in a neutral tone; maybe finish with a loosely-fitted negative paint layer? As you can see, I have the facility to talk myself out of a great idea and the answer just now came to me - just do the exercises and experiment!

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Ann! I say find your own path through the exercise and experiment. Painting the whole surface with a neutral tone sounds like a wonderful idea to me. Your willingness to explore and question is exactly what turns a good idea into a personal breakthrough. You got this! 👍

    The second one I think I liked it more than the first, I liked it the original way round, it looks like it could be a cave or doorway. The first one I could get to like more especially after you put a bit more of the red into it, and again I like it the original way round, it looks like a couple of people maybe considering climbing a mountain. It would be interesting to know how yung or Freud would analyse them😅 do you ever draw with your non dominant hand? I practise it sometimes, I probably should do so more often. As always thank you for sharing your process. Cheers!

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks, Howling! You saw what I saw-a door and a couple. I would be scared to have my paintings analyzed by Freud and Jung 😂😂 I don't draw with my non dominant hand, but of course now I have to give that a go. I bet you can get some really interesting marks doing that. I think that's how I will warm-up on Monday. Cheers!

    • @howlingwind1937
      @howlingwind1937 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@chrisloudart I think I'd be scared as to what yung and Freud would make of my scratchings too!😁. I do a gestural mark first then use my non dominant (left) hand and scribble it into something and I try not to lift my hand from the page, and I use an art line marker pen so all the mistakes stay, no erasing. So I've done some little figures of a child in ballet gear, and someone doing tai chi (made up someone), and a person who fell asleep whilst reading a book, and so the list goes on. The weird thing is they're reasonably proportionately correct, if I do it with my right hand they're not, I'm weird!😁 And I limit myself to 15mins. I'd send you a picture of one of them except I don't know how to do that on TH-cam. Cheers!

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @howlingwind1937 You've inspired me to try this! I made a few initial marks on a painting yesterday with my left hand (no -dominant) to give it a go and I was surprised how little control I actually had. Part of that was because the teeth of the canvas grabbed at the marker. I might have to make a video about this.😊

    • @howlingwind1937
      @howlingwind1937 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@chrisloudart that's wonderful that you gave it a go! I know the lack of control once you find your flow, gets to be quite good fun, then you stop using the art liner like a pen and hold it at the very end, the control is zero, its crazy I know😳🤪🙃

    • @chrisloudart
      @chrisloudart  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@howlingwind1937 I do that with paint brushes now and then-hold them at the very end-and I'll get some interesting and chaotic results.
