Searching for Abandoned Ruins in the Woods - Metal Detecting Video

- Started off this week scouting a farm that I plan on hitting a lot this winter. Although I got a few good finds, the corn stalks were still a little too high to swing the detector through. So I then ventured off to a section of woods where some old shacks use to be 150 years ago. I started finding some cool old pieces so I know I'm close. GPS was recorded and of course I'll be back!
No Nickel Nibbler with me this week, but he did go out and detect some woods near his house. Check out his channel to see whatever he might have found.

Just wanted to take a second to say thank you for sparking an old love. Had an old orange plastic Radio shack detector when I was a kid and I'm about to try my hand again at 50. Such a fun hobby and great exercise. Happy Hunting!
Really happy to hear you're gonna pickup the hobby again. It's the best way to get outdoors and find some hidden treasure at your own pace. Hope you find some amazing things!
Quarter Hoarder Thanks Brother!
Love that 1881 IHP and the bell!!! Thx for sharing-always enjoy your adventures.🖒😊
Thanks Michelle and have a great holiday!
Your excitement gets me excited. What better way to experience history than to hold it in your hand. Love your videos
Awesome barber. Any find is a good find. Those are old parts.... a bell? Sweet. I love old home site digs in the woods. It's history, someone's life is in those small pieces. Key to some womans jewelry box or vanity, maybe a desk
It's amazing the bell still has the handle! I think you're right, bakelite. There's a type called celluloid too. Nice Barber and IHPs! Man, early wheats too! You got some good dates. Your backup spot turned out to be a winner.
Thanks. Whenever I detect in the woods I expect my coin count to be low but they are usually all older. That's a tradeoff that I can live with though! The bell was a big surprise and my favorite find of the hunt. Amazing the handle wasn't broken off. That was my Christmas gift! Lol.
Jason, nice assortment of relics, love the small skeleton key, and that bell reminds me of the noise makers they used to sell back in the 70's, very similar to that one, also congrats on the Barbara dime, hope to see you this winter for some hunts, thanks...
Thanks Frank. The farm at the beginning of the video is where I'll probably spend a lot of time this winter. I'm hoping the farmer will knock those 2' stalks down though. I'll probably head back after the new year and I'll let you know if you're free. Definitely old stuff in that dirt! Happy holidays buddy.
The silverslingers had a great idea for the corn stalks. They dragged a pallet on a rope behind their pickup truck and it cleared the stalks down to ground level. Worked great. Just a thought for clearing the field for an easier swing of the detector.
I might just try that, pretty ingenious!
That’s my favorite type of hunt! Old farm fields and those long gone homesites. Nice IHPs and loved that bell! You also ID’d one my finds last week. The coil points for the model T....had no idea that’s what I dug. Glad I kept it. Great videos as always!
There's not many things that I can ID in the field. Just got lucky with this one because I've dug it before. I'm sure you'll return the favor ID-ing something that I need to know this year. We all do rely on each other. Best of luck on 2018 and Happy Holidays!
The Color Shine disc was a lid from a vintage Color Shine Shoe Dye bottle manufactured by the Chieftain Mfg. Co. in Baltimore, MD.
Thanks for that. I guessed it was a shoe polish tube topper so I'm happy to say I was pretty close. Positive field IDs are not usually my strong suit. Lol.
Last year was my first year digging with my trusty Bounty Hunter 'Gold Digger 🤣. It was the most fun I've ever had! Wish I did this 40 years ago 😐. This was the best video I've watched this far. I found the same Ford coil points..the bell was awesome..I got equally excited finding a Conestoga bell and padlock 🤣. Got a 1840s permission for an entire fairgrounds come Spring and can't wait. Great video
Keeping it real, I like that! Too many times I see videos where large coppers are pulled up in new sites, Hmmm, hasn't happened from my hundreds of site searches. Hard to believe, but I enjoy the realistic. Thanks...
Large coppers are a pretty rare find for me. I've seen videos where guys find them by the handful but I've never been so fortunate. Happy holidays.
I didn't realize that dancing at the club was an option for last Saturday night....man, wish I'd have known...Love that bell and lock plate...keep at it!!!
I spend most Sat nights at the dance club. Where else can I practice my break dancing.
THAT FARM FIELD AND THE WOODS SHOULD KEEP YOU BUSY THROUGH THE WINTER AND BEYOND. NICE FINDS. GL AND HH. LIZZIE
Thanks Lizzie and have a happy holiday!
Awesome video. The part to the lamp has a New Mexico Zia symbol print! Very cool!
In corn rows stand in one row and swing in the other sideways works pretty good. Love the bell find.
Those corn stocks are a pain.. Nice little Barber Dime & Indains, very cool bell, and as long as I have been digging I still have not dug a skeleton key. GL&HH 🖖
We all have our white whale I guess. Mine is a shield nickel. Hundreds of hunts and never found one. Hopefully next year we can both cross them off our lists! Happy holidays buddy.
On my bucket list to DIGG a bell. You lucky DOG. KEEP GETTING DIRTY UNLEASHING THAT HISTORY
I was a lucky dog with that one! Have a safe and happy holiday
WOW! Jason that barber dime is one great find out in the middle of the woods and yes It exciting when you find targets in the woods! Beautiful Bell Jason, Ring that Bell!!! Nice Indian, Looks like your in the spot Man! Very Ornate relics. Happy Holidays Jason to you and your family brother, see ya next year!
Thanks JJ and happy holidays to you too buddy!
The small skeleton key could be for a dressing/makeup table that had a locking drawer for the lady's jewelry or diary. or just a furniture key. I bet the ridges on the gripping edge of the key could lead to the probable manufacturer that supplied the lock to the furniture maker.
That's 2 great spots for the winter hunts. Congrats on the coins but the bell with the clapper still in it is awesome
Thanks. Really happy to have a few good woods spots nearby. The yards will be frozen over soon so these will salvage my winter. Take care and happy holidays!
Nice hunt! Those fields are tough swinging with the stalks huh lol. The woods site looks to be a good one! Love the Bell for sure! Awesome little clock key, I found one exactly like that. Nice job on the Ihp's, wheats, and Barber! Lots of cool Relics there and the lock plate/mechanism is cool. Sometimes they have patent dates. Nice job and see ya Saturday!
I was hoping the farmer would have plowed that field over but no luck there. I'll be going back a lot this winter and might have to walk in one row and swing sideways in the next row over. Whatever needs to be done I guess! Lol. Talk to you tomorrow buddy!
Such awesome treasures. I love the bell & the little key. Great job👍🏻
Thanks Brenda. Appreciate you stopping by and Happy Holidays!
Very good finds, nice hunt ! Congratulations, thanks for sharing. 😊👍👍👍
Thank you and happy holidays!
Thanks for a great year of videos....hope you have love filled holiday and all the best for
this coming year!
Thanks Jerri and happy holidays to you too.
Fun hunt Jason! great finds, the bell is awesome! Happy Hunting
Thanks Basia. Merry Christmas to you too. Loved your yard lights!
Just found you. Kathy from Iowa. Watching on Sunday January 3rd @ 0020hrs. Amazing.
My second video. Love the pure enjoyment in your voice!
Some great relics and coins that you recovered Jason. That bell and the skeleton key are the show stoppers for sure. Have a Blessed and very Merry Christmas with your family!
Thank you John and have a wonderful holiday season yourself. If you get in any winter snowy drone videos I won't mind! Merry Christmas buddy.
All them pits we use to come across growing up in the woods the best thing was were the street sweepers dumped
The small key looks like it belongs to a dresser with small drawers on top, jewelry box, or little box. Nice find!
Wow! Those were some pretty amazing finds. The bell is awesome...the skeleton key...the lock...the Indian head coins...antique car parts...just wonderful. Congratulations on a great outing. Merry Christmas to one and all! Peace.
Thanks Quasi. Wishing you a happy holiday season as well!
Good finds Jason, I like those big fields to hunt in also.
Thanks James and Happy Holidays buddy!
Good finds! It's been frozen ground where I am for almost a month...spring can't come soon enough!
I've gotten lucky with no frozen ground here yet. It's coming though so I'm taking advantage while I can. Happy holidays!
Great finds Jason at some really good permissions. That bell handle looked ivory.
Thanks Scott. An ivory handle would be amazing, but I think mine is more than likely something in the plastic family. I'm still happy with it though. Happy holidays!
I was thinking celluloid.
I remember my first bell find. It was about twice that size but not in as good shape. I believe it might have went to the store that used to be in the location. But great finds and can't wait to see more of your videos. Still my favorite
Thanks Jarred. Twice the size would be awesome! Not sure I ever found one that big but who knows, maybe next year. Lol. Happy holidays buddy!
Fantastic finds Jason, thanks for sharing them.
SAWEEEETT!!!!!! Nice site Jason!! Great coins, beautiful Barber, cool bell, nice IHPs (that one is wild - no patina, I've seen them come out like that before, but rare), and I would've missed those Model T coil points on your game - good to know! Can't wait to see what you find out there next time - and keep an eye out for Sasquatch!! Looking forward to your show, hoping I can tune in. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Hey, when you gonna come to Missouri and hunt with Jeff Ford, Missouri Mike, and me?
Thanks Chris. I only knew the coil point because I've dig several before and someone told me. The coopers I find in the woods seem to come out of the ground always looking different. There is really sandy coil in one spot and then 20' over is red clay soil. Just happy to have some place to dig that's not frozen. This summer I'm gonna try to get together somewhere with Jeff. Maybe meet at a sponsored hunt somewhere in the middle. Just bought a new vehicle so I'm ready for a road trip! Lol. Happy holidays buddy!
EARTH ANGEL😇🎄🎊🎈. Hi Jason! Not a bad way to end the year! Maybe that rusted piece is part of an 1800s draw pull. Too bad you have no history on the house ( houses ) I really like those fancy old door plates, I’m sure there are collectors for those too! Surely more relics to dig there.Hoping for a white Christmas 🤫😄; makes it a bit easier for 🎅Santa, too!😻🎄. Happy and safe holidays to you and yours! May the true meaning of meaning of Christmas be yours!!!!
Thank you Judine. Wishing you and your family and happy holiday as well!
Super cool finds. Love the bell.
Thanks Frankie! Happy holidays.
Awesome finds Jason! Love the bell & the key! Nice coins too!
Thanks Gypsy. Hope you have a happy holiday and I'm looking forward to our 2018 finds!
Keep up the good work!!! Looks like your onto some good ground!!! Let's see what else you find soon!!!
Thanks. I'm looking forward to a return visit. Happy holidays!
cool bell and neat key nice old coins and cool relics awesome spot to hunt congrats
Happy Holidays - Maine Metal Detecting - Sisters History Detectorists
Thanks ladies! Wishing you both a happy holiday season as well!
That was a great adventure. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks. Appreciate you stopping by!
For whom the bell tolls...lol. Great find!
One of my favorite books!
....one of Hemingway’s best. The movie with Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman was good, too.
Great stuff, love it. The Reed is from an accordion. If you check near the base you should see the note that it played stamped in it. Also, the Ford Contacts also have the Ford logo stamped into them. Keep up the good work.
Thanks James. I was guessing some sort of squeeze box reed but I wasn't positive on that. Appreciate the ID help man!
Hi Jason, the coin's were a great find, the key was a really nice find, but the bell was the cherry on top! I'm glad too see you have place's to detect, when winter sets in! Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah everybody 🎄🎅🤶🕎⛄
Thanks and I couldn't agree more about the bell. Super happy to have found that, and unbroken no less! Happy holidays to you too!
Good hunt Jason, cool finds and love that bell..awesome..good job digging it without braking the stem..ATB Michael
Thanks Michael and happy holidays buddy!
Merry Christmas! Nice finds & hope to see you Saturday night!
Thanks Susan. Happy holidays and hope to see you Sat!
Great hunt Jason. That site has more treasures to be had I'm sure. Just before you said you saw bottles and pottery shards I was thinking there has to be vintage bottles there somewhere. I bet there's multiple privies loaded with bottles close to the house foundation. Also that trash pit area sounds promising. Dig a little and look for ashes. Great Indians and Barber. If I don't talk to you all the best to your you and your family for Christmas but I'm still going to try and catch your last live chat for the year.
Thanks. One the far back end of the cellar hole there were old bottles scattered around. My guess would be a dump from maybe the 30's or 1940s. I like digging in those type areas though so I'm looking forward to the return. Happy holidays buddy!
Great hunts QH and a lovely barber dime, what a corker! Looks like the spoon was having a party with some iron. Love the Bakelite and brass bell, amazing find. The Brian head pennies always remind me of a punk with a Mohawk (oh the irony). ATB&HH. Deano.
Haha, they do kinda look like a Mohawked punk rocker. Happy holidays and best of luck in 2018!
Happy Holidays to you and yours too buddy. :)
At 22:35 the piece you said might be a piece of a chain is a back strap holder for a leather back strap from a button box accordion, the reed you found is also from the same accordion, that is why it is so big , ( I think, I rebuild accordions), and if so there should be many more reed blocks in the same area , I would be interested to know if the two pieces were found anywhere near each other. I can send you a photo of that strap holder for your info, if you are interested , Thanks Mike,
Thanks for that info Mike. I knew the reed piece was to an instrument but just wasn't sure exactly what. Makes sense for an accordion though. The back strap holder was found about 5 miles away but how cool to find them in totally different locations. Pretty popular instrument back then though. I remember my grandmother playing the squeeze box when I was around 5-6.
Great hunt Jason. Congrats on the IHPs and the barber but the bell and skeleton key are outstanding finds. Thanks for sharing. GL&HH Kevin
Thanks Kevin. Happy holidays buddy!
Very nice and giving site!! Some cool relics, thank you very much for sharing!! Happy Holidays to you and the family!!!
Thanks Ray and happy holidays to you too buddy!
some great finds. baby skeleton key. lock mech. that bell is pretty sweet . and you cant go wrong with a barber dime. congrats on your finds man. (cody) OCA
Thanks Cody and happy holidays buddy!
Awesome finds man! Love that old bell and key! I wanna see the old abandoned shacks..
Thanks. I'll hit that spot once or twice more and then show them. There's a little competition around the area so I don't want to show my cards before the hand was over. Happy holidays buddy!
I got 2-similar keys, (not quite as old), this year at one site. Cabinet Keys I think?
Either way, Really appreciate your adjustment to winter hunt/vids. Keeps me motivated to Keep Looking!
Thanks and Great Job as always-Happy Holidays!
Thanks Dirk and Happy Holidays buddy!
Wow, very nice finds brother! The bell is a sweet find. Cool coins but no "quarters", LOL. I have found a few spots like that in the woods near my hunting camp. All I need to do is get the TIME to go hunt it. HH and ATB. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Some days those silver quarters are elusive, but I'm always hunting for them! Happy holidays to you too buddy!
Wow that bell is awesome great hunt. Carl
Thanks Carl and happy holidays buddy!
Sweet hunt with great finds! Love the lock plate and the stubby skeleton key! Also, great job on the video!. Hope you have a great Christmas! GL&HH
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays!
That's cool to have the lock plate an the key
Awesome hunt Jason! Great relic haul and sweet looking skeleton key. Nice Indians and barber dime. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas, and On-On! Looking forward to your final live stream of the year!
Thanks Zach. Hopefully I'll see you on the stream but if not Happy Holidays buddy!
There is more in that homesite for sure. I like the bell and key, great relics. Merry Christmas Jason to you and your family!
Thanks Robyn and happy holidays to you and your family as well!
Merry Christmas, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays!
Looks like a good Relic and IHP site. Enjoyed the hunt.
Thanks and Happy holidays!
Some great finds on that home site looks like a good spot I really like that skeleton key. That first piece of iron on the far left looks like a cast iron pipe cap. Happy holidays
Thanks Mike and have a happy holiday season yourself!
Awesome bell! I've never seen anything like that handle, really cool! That was a neat tiny skeleton key too. I had no idea that brass item was a cufflink, that helps me ID a couple of those that I've found, thanks for that!
Thanks. I was almost as excited to see the handle intact than I was the bell itself. It's those little things that makes us want to keeping going out. Take care and thanks for stopping by.
nice hunt there i found this Color shine combines a vibrant splash of color with a luminous glow. Quickly add color to paper, chipboard, wood, fabric & trims to customize your crafty creations. new sub
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays!
Cool bell and little skeleton key!
Thanks and happy holidays!
Great hunt man, love the old coins but that bell is super sweet, we just don't dig many of them! Happy Hunting!
Thanks and have a happy holiday season buddy!
A few people posted good ideas about the small skeleton key..in my opinion its for a clock case...not the winding key but to open the front case
Good scouting trip and some nice finds. Love the key. Merry Christmas to you and your family and Happy new year, take care and HH. Your friend Jim (Tennessee Gem )
Thanks Jim and have a great holiday season yourself buddy!
Wow. You did great at that old house site Jason. Congrats man. To bad that 1914 wheat wasn’t a D mint mark. That’s my luck too. HH and GL
I rarely catch those key dates. I guess that's why they're key dates! Lol. Happy holidays buddy and looking forward to our 2018 digs!
Quarter Hoarder happy holidays to you and you family too.
@ 1:00 being there is only one reed on the copper plate, I think it more likely came out of an accordion or something. I've never seen a harmonica with individual plates for each reed.
Fantastic bell man sooo stoked for you beautiful man! Got to dig it all never know what will pop up next! Great finds Jason best of luck to you and yours in the new year! Cheers Nathan
Wow was surprised that there wasn't fancy all over that bell boy it sure looked like it when it came out of the hole! Still an awesome find but the small key may be my favorite now. Cheers Nathan
You know, I didn't want to sound disappointed because that bell was awesome, but I was surprised no fancy either. Still display case worthy for me nonetheless. Take care Nathan and hope you had a good holiday.
Good hunt Jason. The bell and skeleton key are awesome finds. Of course the barber is the prize. There might be some decent bottles in the dump. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year my friend. HH
Thanks Sebastian and happy holidays to you as well!
That piece of trash that says please don’t litter is actually an old 70’s Pabst can, I found an intact lid on the beach metal detecting. Oh the irony. Love the videos though keep it up!!
Awesome hunt. Love the Bell
Great hunt. Very nice bell, key and IHP's. Love finding sites that you just don't want to leave! Merry Christmas Jason and all the best brother!!
Andrew..
Thanks Andrew and happy holidays to you too buddy! Looking forward to 2018 digging!
Cool permissions Jason.
Corn field is good but that wood is great spot.
Congrats on the bell! You can call for butler now. LoL
Thanks Sinisha. Luckily avoiding the snow here for now. Not sure how long my luck will hold out though! Lol. Happy holidays buddy!
That metal door with the place for skeleton key almost looks like a post office box door. Subbed. Great hunt, nice channel. thank you.
That could be, I'm not really positive yet. Thanks for stopping by and Happy Holidays!
Nice hunt Jason, love the Indians and the bell. Tc, GL&HHAnd Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!
Thank you and Merry Christmas to you too buddy!
1914 very sought after coin....if you found a D mint wld be awesome.....great finds

That bell is awesome!! I collect bells!
Nice Dig Man!! Keep it up, Good Luck & Happy Huntin'
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
Awesome digs man! Great spot you got there! That little bell is super cool! Looks like a finger bell, something that might be sitting at the dinner table which could be rang to call for service from the maid. Happy Holidays and HH! Dewayne
Thanks Dewayne. I use the same kind of bell to ring for my maids (otherwise known as my kids) lol. Happy holidays buddy!
Great hunt Jason. You have a nice site there!
Congrats on all the cool finds, especially that bell. Awesome Find!!
Merry Christmas Buddy. Ok, on to the Nibbler.
Thanks Don. Merry Christmas to you too buddy! Hope we both have a great 2018 season.
Holy crap man that bell is freakin beautiful, what a find, that is too cool...my eyes lite up when I saw that seriously. You also found some beautiful mercury Dimes and a whole tribe of Indians lol. Nice hunt 👍 all the way around keep the awesome videos coming
That small key is probably for a jewellery box. Or desk drawer.
Wow, Jason, I love the bell and the key! I think finding relics is way more fun than coins. Well maybe because I've never dug any old coins lol. Great video as always. MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!
1L
Thanks 1L! A mix of digging old coins and relics is what I dream about! lol. Live stream this Sat, hope you can make it. If you can't have a happy holiday!
I wonder if that key is for a steamer trunk? Cool stuff!
Nice IHP`S Dine , skeleton key ,,, Awesome bell !!! ATB Jason and Merry Christmas!!! Bruce
Thanks Bruce and happy holidays to you too buddy!
That tiny key looks like it could be to the door of a grandfather clock. I don't know what that's the first thing I thought of.
Could be. I haven't figured out exactly what it unlocks yet but it was cool. Happy New Year.
Nice. Enjoy your videos. As good as Aquachigger and Nuggetnoggin.
Thanks Mike.
Awesome relics and video. Merry Christmas!
Pretty nice hunt overall buddy! The woods look like they will produce a good bit as you get through them more. Thanks for sharing and Keep Living the Dirt Life! Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
Thanks D Wing and happy holidays buddy!
Great variety of loot
Rusty loot = smiles. Lol. Thanks and Happy holidays.
Love the bell! Is there much of a tick problem in NJ? They are horrendous in PA woods.
Lots of ticks in NJ. Luckily in the winter their numbers go way down. If this was any other time of the year I would have easily pulled 10 off of me, even with tick spray.
