It's the ultra-realistic HD textures that bloats the game size. Games nowadays are made with the graphics as a second priority (the first would be monetization), that alone would bloat the size considerably, which especially annoying since it still consumes unnecessary space for textures files you didn't use. Personally, I don't mind having MW2019 gameplay with MW2007 graphic, because I value more gameplay than graphic

The history in this game is beyond insulting, but the premise of this game alone makes no sense as a nazi policy at the time of the time was to kill all allied special forces found within occupied territory, they would be all executed during the scene the SS Officer captured them and found none of them had a name they could ransom or use for a propaganda victory.

Yeah that was something that got me from the moment they got captured. Berlin is literally burning down around them while the Red Army is being barely inconvenienced by the mostly children and elderly conscripts that made up the bulk of the surviving German military at this point but for some reason main bad guy and his underlings feel it’s important to hang around and interrogate some random Special Forces team instead of just shooting them and fleeing the city.

Especially as the smart ass leader of the outfit could not resist boasting with his rudimentary knowledge of the German language and trying to humiliate the SS officer in front of his subordinates. This would have speeded up their demise.

Japanese are torturing you in the begging, you are burning them alive with flamethrowers. The germans are going on killings sprees in Stalingrad, the soviets are going on killing sprees on Berlin. Then there is the fact about the eastern front where you can see from time to time lined up and executed soldiers, both germans and soviets, and in some cases (i think) both are killing their own (for being "cowards" and such). Also, everyone in modern war games are so covered in kit and gear that you probably wouldn't be able to tell what race or gender they are. In a modern setting, none of their social crap would fit into a story unless they made it "Call of Duty: Africa and Western Asia". Those places still have lots of sexism, totalitarianism, racism and religious divides. But, who would want to play as Israeli, Saudi Special forces, or Nigerian, Central African or Kurdish? Too many toes to step on. They better play it safe and just invent some made WW2 story that they used a liberal college history book for as reference. They stretched every fiber of realism to include race, gender, anti-imperialism and social justice.

I have the feeling that the amount of guns in COD decreased with WW2, Cold War and now Vanguard, and in all of those games guns were out of place. WW2 did the best job (I guess), some guns I didn’t even know what they are exactly (Auto 5, Toggle Action (?) ,…) , the PPSCH felt a bit out of place at the western front but I think I read stories that these weapons were used by the Germans from captured Soviets, yet I don’t believe they made their way from the eastern to the western front, still an okay setting for me. Cold War triggered me (as an eastern German), the StaSi most likely didn’t used MP5Ks (no, despite being a „German“ weapon), East Germany was soviet territory, MP5 was issued to westerns and NATO members. They also didn’t use a „Krieg 6“ (or GALIL). I was also shocked that there were only like 3 pistols in the game. Vanguard took the cake, experimental weapons with colorful red dot sights, drum magazines, etc. STG44 in Japan and so on…

Pretty much every big triple A developer that refuses to diversify and make their game woke will have big trouble getting any kind of investments. That accent is *horrible* - I had to switch from "Doing stuff, watching this from the corner of my eye" to "actively listen in order to understand what's being said"; that's saying something, when I have to concentrate more in order to understand my mother tongue, when the 5 minutes before that I could understand a foreign language without too much of a hassle.
Yes, yes, languages in visual media can be difficult, but COME ON, the voice actors could've been paid the extra hours for them to try some at least decent pronunciation - or alternatively they could've just skipped the two sentences of "Oooh, it's German, so historically accurate!" 🙄
And apparently that is a rhineland accent, from Neustadt? I've been to Mannheim before, which is somewhat close to Neustadt - surprisingly enough no one had such an accent.

Activision just needs to do a Ubisoft and state that these games are works of fiction. Acknowledge that these are just blockbuster video games. Coded movies with decent multiplayer. Then go full on Michael Bay with these things. There is a market for this stuff. We know what we are getting. Make big bombastic action movies with the option to do a little stealth. Manage the pacing better. Tell better stories. We will buy that ish. They always look increasingly better on our flat screen TVs and 4K resolutions. Skipped the crap out of this. Protagonist: "Your Rhineland Accent, you must be from Neustadt!"
Not only are there around 20 towns in Germany called Neustadt, there's only two very small ones in the Rhineland, so he can't possibly narrow his dialect down to just the two of them.
And for fucks sake, and this goes to all American developers, but Activision in particular: if you want to go smart on a character's accent or dialect, at least make the effort to hire a voice actor from that region or at least the same country. It's not that hard to find German voice actors that would be willing to take part in an AAA game. It's so fucking annoying to have to listen to a Nazi speaking German with an English Accent.

I think in COD Vanguard, whenever you die, you instead get quotes that all revolve around the fictional characters or the game's story. Not that it's a serious flaw, but the real war-related quotes was something I missed in the newer CODs. Kind of adds a sense of realism and grounded-ness to the games

About the first mission with the trains, Dartigan should've added that this level begins with a very vague date. All it says was Hamburg, 1945. In past COD games set in WW2, every level begins with a specific date that happened to have battles on it in real life. Here, it gives the players a location and year, but not even a friggin month. I was kept guessing when the battle of Hamburg happened until the very last mission when the Nazis mentioned a specific event that I then figured out what was the actual date.
3:12: Dartigan should've pointed out that while black British soldiers did serve in integrated units and it was possible for them to achieve the officer ranks, not one black person served in the SOE during the war.
5:08: That weapon is a real weapon called the Becker Revolving Shotgun and they were made in the 1920's, however, as to their usage in WW2, I could not find any.
6:25: I caught two instances of bullshit in Arthur's monologue to the German officer. The first was that Arthur gave away a fact that he knows German. Had he not done so, he could have picked up some intel without them being none the wiser. The second was a complete historical travesty committed by Sledgehammer to purposely propagate their poppycock agenda into the game. Arthur mentioned black soldiers walking around the place where the German used to live with guns and marrying the local women. That is a historical coverup committed by a company that was just commissioned to develop a real life event game. The soldiers with guns were black colonial French troops, part of a contingent to occupy the Rhineland from 1920 to 1923 after the end of WW1. When Arthur added in "marry your women", that would have earned him a bullet to the head in real life. In reality, a minority did marry the local women, but the majority of what happened with regards to German women was that there were 65+ cases of rape committed by the same black French colonial troops. This omission by Sledgehammer shows that they have no balls in presenting history, especially before WW2, in how things were that would make their "diversity inclusive" image look very bad.
7:49: Not that this has anything to do with race, it has everything to do with anxiety. These guys have just jumped out of a plane into enemy territory and are behind enemy lines. The whole act with Arthur saying "Thunder" is what they're supposed to say when encountering friendly units so that they don't shoot their own.
8:32: Even though the US sent weapons to England as part of the Lend Lease Act, the BAR was distributed mainly to the British Home Guard. Arthur could have been using a Bren LMG in that mission.
9:11: Sure, that or the other book that's titled The International Jew: The World's Foremost Problem by Henry Ford.
9:14: Another problem that's prevalent throughout these cutscenes: these German officials, whenever they speak to each other, never speak German.
9:56: Two instances of bullshit here. The first is what Dartigan pointed out: this annoying interchange of languages. The second is that Sledgehammer dared to bring back the most pointless action command in this game from Advanced Warfare: Hold Square To Eat With Your Family. Also, I noticed that before Polina's name was the rank Private. Seeing as how Polina originally was a medic at the beginning of her story, I don't think medics would be given ranks. I tried finding some examples of ranked medics in the Soviet army, but none came up.
10:04: Hell, this was the most baffling thing to be implemented in a Call Of Duty game, no less. The way Polina climbs up the wall, runs across the rooftops, even jumps from place to place made me think I was playing a segment straight out of Mirror's Edge. One TH-camr, Lack Of Entertainment, called Polina's agilities "Spiderman abilities". Also, I've seen videos of this level titled " Battle Of Stalingrad". This is not a battle, this is an assault on the city. Lack Of Entertainment also pointed that before the assault begins, there's not one banner flying Soviet sayings and there's no picture of the guy the city is named after. Jesus tap dancing Christ, Sledgehammer was criticized before for not having the swastika on any of the Nazi flags in COD WW2. Here, they did the same thing. Was the excuse the same as last time? They didn't want to "offend" anyone? Offend who? The Neo Nazis?
11:08: Which is the most stupidest game mechanic anyone could ever place in an event that happened in real life. If the developers wanted the players to have fun flying a plane, they could have the plane be stocked with unlimited ammo. But if they wanted the plane have limited ammo, it would have provided a good enough challenge to the player to conserve their ammo for important parts. The computer game Aircraft Carriers: Pacific Assault perfectly captures the mechanics of fighter, dive bomber and torpedo planes.
11:21: During the flight towards the carriers, the player gets ambushed by Japanese Zeros. However, the plane never strays off course while it happens. The player is allowed to move to the sides, but nonetheless, stays on the flight route. No chance for an actual dogfight is ever given in this game making this whole flying level less of a thrill to experience combat from the air into a pretty boring standard of "fly from point A to point B". Also, the battle at Midway was way more intense in real life and in Aircraft Carriers: Pacific Assault. Here, Sledgehammer has the player just sit tightly until a command is given to drop ONE bomb that supposedly sunk a full size carrier. Had Sledgehammer given a shit about historical authenticity, they would program this to have the player and the NPCs take turns dropping bombs on 4 Japanese carriers, not just have it be one plane dropping one bomb with the impact force of a freaking bunker buster.
12:59: Once again, the game was being vague again when it came to a specific month out of a specific year. In the game's Wikipedia page, it mentions only this for the level: November 1943 ( a day would have been nice).
13:38: Dartigan misspelled the word naval.
13:58: Japanese animation can be traced back to at least the 1920's, Dartigan. It wouldn't matter to anyone outside of Japan between then and the 40's if they had seen it or not. Also, this game just pulled a very asenine moment. Normally, in situations like this, a Japanese officer would conduct an interrogation and in the POW's language, no less. However, an enlisted translator can be used as well. However, this stupid ass scene had the translator come up to you and with a straight face, asked "Do you speak Japanese" in plain fucking English. If this idiot wanted to know if I speak Japanese, he would have asked me the same thing in Japanese to see if I understood. What's the point of asking a POW if they know YOUR certain language if you asked them in THEIR own language? Such an approach makes the interrogater look stupid as hell. Whoever at Sledgehammer thought this was good to be in the game is a fucking retard.
14:09: Wade went through basic training with a pistol and with planes, not with any other forms of conventional weapons. This is common to teach pilots how to use a sidearm whenever they get shot down in enemy territory as a last way to defend themselves. But here, the basic principle of sidearm training is the same for rifles and machine guns.
14:14: That shot looked like it grazed him from the side to me.
14:21: Dartigan has a point with the grenade. A grenade will cook for 5 seconds before exploding and that little scene there would have had Wade's arm full of shrapnel. However, there is a trick to hold down the mechanism of the grenade after the pin has been pulled giving the thrower more than 5 seconds.
15:04: Finally, everyone, we've now seen a new level of absurdity with the way Sledgehammer and Activision have handled this game and that is in the Numa Numa Trail mission. Keep in mind that this level is set in November 1943 which is the first month of the battle of Bougainville that lasted all the way to August '45 and here we have units of the 93rd Division making their appearance. The absurdly with this is that throughout all of 1943, the 93rd Division were still going through basic training back at their camps in California. The 93rd would not be sent out overseas until January '44 and they would not be sent to Bougainville until March of '44. So here we have a huge historical discrepancy between historical facts and piss poor scholarly research. I remember back in the day, there was a company that did WW2 justice and that company was called Treyarch. What in the fucking hell did Activision do to it? Sledgehammer has consistently disappointed me with how it handled most of Modern Warfare 3, Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare and WW2. When will Activision get the fucking message that Sledgehammer is terribly unfit to make a WW2 game? As long as Treyarch keeps getting bypassed on every WW2 project coming out, Activision will be seen as a corporation that's unworthy of respect and their products as things that belongs in the garbage.
16:40: I'm curious as to this Steiner guy being someone Sledgehammer made up as a possible villain or someone who was a real person during the war. My money's on this guy being a fictional character.
16:57: Shit yeah, especially since in real life, the Soviets gave credit to one sniper in helping turn the tide against the Germans at Stalingrad: Vasily Zaitsev, a man. This further proves that Sledgehammer could care less about historical authenticity in favor of a genderwash version they presented all because they FEEL that a woman should have done that.

They could have made something cool out of this very basic premise of " hitlers successor" by fully committing to the Dieselpunk setup and just go full Wolfenstein. Actually alternative history/timeline thing. Then the suspension of disbelief would be easier in some cases. But instead they try to shoehorn this all in as some story that " Might as well have happened" , triggering angry historians.

On top of that they have added in all these thermal/canted sights, as well as an Orbital VSAT type thing in multiplayer. I know the Germans had the Vampir sight but it was barely a prototype. This was all added in even after the devs said they would be things accurate. Aside from all the historical inaccuracies the story in this game had no flow for me. The mission didn't really relate to each other at all, and there was no information on how they all met/were recruited to the Vanguard. Thank God WaW was made so we at least have a fairly historically accurate game to go back to.

So technically, Cold War did it first. Plus, why not make it canon? I personally think it works. Incorrect! During Reznov's flashback in Black Ops we learn that Germany had developed Nova 6 during the war, but as Steiner tells us the war was simply lost before they could use it. Steiner contacts Dragovich to give the Nova 6 to the Soviet Union, meanwhile Arthur and his team find the relevant documents at the end of the campaign which leads to the SAS finding Nova 6 at roughly the same time as the soviets. And the rest is history. So the timeline basically works out.

9:35 To elaborate a little: Molotov denied that the Soviet air force was bombing Finnish villages (targets of no military value); since the existence of Soviet aircraft flying in the regions in question was undeniable, he claimed that they were dropping food to starving Finnish villagers, as a humanitarian operation. This led to Soviet bombs being sarcastically nicknamed "Molotov breadbaskets," which in turn led to the use of the term "Molotov cocktails" for the wine -bottle petrol bombs that the outgunned Finns used to disable Soviet tanks.

Honestly this game would have been better if they would have taken the Battlefield route and done separate war stories.
Each person’s story had potential with some fleshing out and reworking imo.
If they wanted to make a statement about the contributions of POCs in the war: They could have swapped Arthur with a member of the 93rd. As they’re performing their usual duties, they could have come under fire and rose to the occasion and fended off the Japanese despite being outnumbered, with more limited ammo, or whatever other challenge. Wafe would be an NPC in this scenario and Mateo wouldn’t be there at all. Then they see Wade’s flare and they set out to investigate. They find him and again engage the enemy. Wade initially dismisses them because of his racism, but he has to work with them to get himself off the island. After fighting with them to take the ridge and seeing the sacrifices they made for each other and for him, Wade overcomes his racism.
To make a statement about the contributions of women in the war: They could have started with a flashback of Polina and Misha as kids when their father taught them to hunt and use a rifle. During the war, Misha is fighting on the front lines and Polina is a medic and stretcher bearer. During a skirmish and air raid, she actually has to rescue people while under fire (rather than just running away like she does in the game). Afterwards, she returns home to find her father murdered and a German officer rummaging through their apartment. The officer is holding her father’s rifle, which he took as a war souvenir. She, being unarmed, is forced to hide and he leaves without noticing her. During another skirmish in the city, she is running through an apartment when a Soviet sniper is hit in front of her. She tries to save him but she can’t. She picks up his rifle and remembers her father teaching her how to use one. She joins the battle as one of the female snipers in Stalingrad. Over the course of the fighting, she racks up a ton of kills and eliminates several obstacles hindering the Soviet defenses, but she goes unnoticed, especially compared to male snipers like Zaitsev. Nobody even knows her name. During the closing days of the Battle of Stalingrad, she witnesses a German officer executing POWs, one of whom happens to be Misha. The officer happens to be the same one who murdered her father, and he’s holding her father’s rifle. She eliminates him, but not before he gets Misha. She goes out and picks up the rifle. The war story ends with her as an old woman writing her memoir and hoping someone will be interested in her story. She looks at the rifle hanging on her wall as the scene ends.

14:53 I didn't notice this in my playthrough but these appear to be 76mm Sherman M4 tanks present in the Pacific Theatre in like 42-43ish, which is a bit of an oopsie as they did not even become a thing until near the end of WW2 and I believe only in the European theatre. As the US was invading Germany / France and had to contend with heavy German armor such as the Tiger and Panther, they quickly realized their current 75mm and 54mm Shermans weren't able to reliably penetrate the much thicker frontal armor on these heavy German tanks. As such, the 76mm Sherman M4 (the tank in Fury, if you need a reference) was fielded to solve this issue when it came up.. and it very much did. Needless to say, seeing a version of the Sherman that wasn't even a thing until like '44 and likely only in the European theatre driving around in the Pacific in like '42 or '43, bit odd. I really doubt any 76's were deployed to the Pacific as the very little armor Japan had was.. pretty pathetic. Even the 54mm Shermans could've mopped those.
Add another sin for that. Also why is there a German machine gun on this Japanese plane? An MG42 at that, which was by far the more infantry-suited MG between the 34 and 42.

17:16: This Nazi official was made to be a friggin idiot. If he was smart, he would have asked Polina what kind of secret project Steiner was being recruited for until he heard her say Project Phoenix. Instead, he blatantly says the name after Polina mentioned it, thus confirming its existence to the team.
18:23: Despite Sledgehammer making another simple mistake that could have been easily fixed, they chose not to which led to pissed off Kiwis angry about their most legendary hero turned into someone from a country they have a rivalry with, an insulting gesture from Sledgehammer.
18:32: Even though the weapon Lucas is carrying is real, they were mainly used in South Asian jungles against the Japanese. On North Africa, Lucas and the other soldiers of the Commonwealth would have been using standard Stens, Brens and Lee-Enfields. Also, on a minor note, during the opening sequence for El-Alamein, the British major in charge called a Panzershreck rocket an RPG. That acronym would not be used until a decade after the war, until the Soviets developed it in 1958. Just goes to show that Sledgehammer has no business developing WW2 games since they treat this from a modern perspective.
19:37: This official is having a realization of what Project Phoenix is, but stupidly mouths it off while a member of the opposing faction calmly listens. Before, the team barely had an inkling on what Phoenix could mean, now one of them has a front row seat on what it finally is from the stupid official.
19:49: What the hell are you talking about, Dartigan? The Germans in charge now don't have to worry about taking over their own country again since they're just continuing on with the war, even after Hitler killed himself and Nazism still would have been continued by these guys because that's been the country's flag since 1933. "It would have been a harder sell in the wake of WW2"? Does Dartigan not know what year Nazi Germany came into existence and what year war was declared on them that began WW2? The German people accepted Hitler's plan to revive Germany back from the economic depression because they were desperate, it wasn't much a hard sell. By the wake of WW2, the German people were ecstatic that Hitler had claimed back lands that belonged to the Germans because of how many Germans lived there like Austria and the Sudetenland regions of Czechoslovakia and East Prussia that was divided by the Polish Corridor. What this game is saying that as long as remnants of the Nazi gov't still live on, it's likely the people are willing to go along.
20:46: Though Dartigan did not show it, anyone who has played this point in the mission between fighting the armored flamethrower guy and sweeping the building of Germans remembered another BS moment. In order to get into the building, someone has to throw a grenade through a window where a cutscene will play. The grenade lands some several feet away from Panzershreck soldiers and sprinted away once they saw it. The next scene shows the front of the building now having its entire first floor explode and burst into flames as if it was hit by a missile. Not only does Sledgehammer not respect historical authenticity, they don't respect real world scenarios in a war game.
21:32: Therein lies another reason why the campaign mode in this game is garbage. The developers purposely had the whole team do only just 2 missions together while the rest of the levels were just flashbacks triggered as the team sat on their asses throughout the majority of the game. Another reason this game was bound to be lousy was because it was confirmed by the people who had a part in this game. One lady at a Q&A segment announced that they were planning on making a Vanguard 2 and 3. Was that the reason why Vanguard had so little of any new content? Were they saving those new contents for the next installments? Giving more focus to a future project instead of devoting those same focuses to the current one has got to be the most worst example of developing video games. Video games, like movies, are judged based on not only how well they're sold, but on how many people enjoyed it. We all remembered how "well" Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, Infinite Warfare, WW2, Black Ops 4 and Cold War did. Even though Ghosts ended with the protagonist going through the same brain washing method that the main antagonist went through, we'll never get a Ghosts 2 because this game was trash that only served to disrespect a memorable character from a previous game that had no connections to it. I played it only twice and never played it again. In Advanced Warfare's ending, Troy Baker talks about how everything that he went through at the end won't be over. Turns out it was over when Sledgehammer created this game to be another crappy futuristic game nobody asked for, so, so much for the possibility for an Advanced Warfare 2. Played it twice, never picked it up again. Black Ops 3 goes further into the future so much that the references to the first and second black ops were so small, I was wondering if what I was playing really connected to Treyarch's last two games. It felt like it wasn't. Infinite Warfare was a god awful abomination. The whole time, I've felt like this game was a ripoff of Killzone with the way the story and characters were framed. Played it once, never touched it again. Black Ops 4 would take a different route, putting in all the extra modes, but leaving out completely the campaign. That showed where Activision's priorities really were. WW2 was what we as COD fans were really hoping to be a good change from all the bullshit futuristic games shoved down our throats. However, WW2 failed to live up to my expectations because instead of the game having the same atmosphere as Big Red One, the atmosphere was that of Modern Warfare with over the top events in most parts of the game and the tank and plane missions being given only a set amount of minutes instead of their own levels. What really annoyed me was the character's excessive reference to his dead brother that I didn't know of until near the end as well as the useless flashbacks of the main guy's childhood that only served to implicate that the sole reason he joined the army was to get some closure over his brother's death, not for duty or patriotism, just to soothe his guilt. Cold War could have been a fresh take on doing the Cold War setting differently, but that was too big a challenge for Sledgehammer to accomplish, so instead, we were given the same tired formula of America good, Russia bad. If they're serious of pushing more of the same shit in the next Vanguard games, I might as well start playing my old games of Medal Of Honor and Call Of Duty pre-2010 everytime Activision announces new garbage.

5:15 Well there's being a bit off and then there's "Unless I booted up a modern Wolfenstein game by accident, there is no way in hell I should be seeing this many holographic sights, alternate magazine types/sizes, glowing yellow reticles, and silencers". What's worse is that in the multiplayer, you can even rechamber weapons to take different calibers. Can someone please explain to me how anyone was able to get away with making the MG42 take 30-06 or a C96 take 5.7?

This campaign didn’t have to be believable or accurate for me, it just had to be good- or at least fun. Unfortunately, it was uninteresting and I didn’t enjoy it. Well, that’s the way it is.
Also Guardians seems like a good choice.
