You didn't miss anything in World War II the British did went in the water they unbuckled yourself more easier and Americans they can't get off in time I remember that part you don't get with that truck driving in the fuel because they did that there was a minefield White Bear that one your character bill out make a drills for the troops can you keep making more videos with your reaction with Call of Duty Vanguard please I hope you have a awesome day only all your videos so far you are very smart
In C47, yes it have a capacity to transport 28 men but if you equipe them with all their stuff, you reduce drastically the number of soldier in the plane because the weigh is too important
4:20 Fun fact, the main character would have died instantly in real life because the British Airborne troops did not have a reserve parachute, only the Americans had those.
@@bu9962 I know the Americans song about a paratrooper with a failed chute and crashing, but I didn’t know the Brits had one too, or unless you mixed it up
Tell that to HBO. Apparently post Game of Thrones, people think a good show is gore, tits and huge amounts of the F word. And also more gay people because they turned tokenism into oversaturation.
I worked in the games industry when it was new. The Call of Duty team who made this might have wanted a better and more authentic story. Thing is they'd have to get that past the publishers and investors who only want to know about their return on investment. Publishers and investors are risk averse. They like to boast that they like innovation - or authenticity in this case - but they really don't. They are generally risk averse and will only back what is already proven to guarantee market share. So stupid plots and sensational action it is. They know it sells. See also Hollywood remaking the same few films over and over with different titles and stars. See also the top twenty singles all sounding identikit. Capitalism.
Call of duty games were never made to be 100% accurate, it was made for profit. It's not surprising that the new games that come out are still not 100% accurate and most likely never will be.
@@entityunknown732 But at least they tried in world at war. It wasn't fully realistic, but it tried its best to evoke the feeling of war. Now, it's just stupid inclusion after stupid inclusion. It feels like an action movie? You're right, it's still selling. But god willing this is the start of activision's downfall.
All of the current cod series are in a shared universe they are all historical fiction in cold war the villain was based off a supposed actual kgb agent and they did their own thing with it.
Never thought I’d see the battle for merville battery in a call of duty game, it’s just a shame that it looks nothing like the actual thing and was so inaccurate. My great-grandfather was one of the paras that survived the drop and assault of the battery.
Your great-grandfather along with the other paratroopers from the 9th battalion did a great favor to the troops storming the beaches. Too bad Sledgehammer Games took a giant shit on the brave men that took the Merriville Battery in the most disgusting way!
what makes me madder is how they take another soldier's story and put it in another. Sydney was a brave soldier with an amazing story(he even received medal for his actions) they didn't need to do that, this game is a disgrace and i hate everthing about it.
@@swector_unit4257 We're already at a point where people feel so passionately about video games that you can no longer confidently say "it's just a game" and expect others to take it less seriously. What constitutes as "just a game" in the first place? Chess is a game. Basketball is a game. If a media tackles serious topics or fashions itself as a simulation of one, has educational contents etc. I think it's fine to not see it as "just a game".
Note: The first German he kills is armed with a carbine 98k but has got MP40 ammo pouches and the carbine in the game is loaded with a box magazine instead of stripper clips.
They've been doing that since cod 2. The very first cod had that nice attention to detail where the equipment the soldiers wore was dependent on their weaponry. But you can't be surprised by the lack of that attention to detail in these newer games, they're going for a more "tacticool" look even though it might not fit
@@beowulf1658 Why is that? The definition of a carbine is "a long gun that has a barrel shortened from its original length" The Karabiner 98K is the shortened version of the Gewehr (rifle) 98 which was the standard issue during WW1. Well, the dimensions are of course still more comparable to the Garand, Mosin and Lee Enfield than to say the M1 Carbine. So, I guess I see where you're coming from.
I love how both in Battlefield AND in Vanguard, they would take REAL people and their deeds and use them for woke shit. Like in Battlefield 5, the dam mission to stop the Germans from producing nuclear materials was done with an entire commando team, worthy of their own blockbuster movie. They instead took that entire mission and made a girl and her mom do it all by themselves
Yeah the mission went so far to rewrite the history that some norwegian people took it as insulting to the real men that actually were part of the operation Gunnerside
And for your luck in my knowlage there are few movies about this ~The Real Heroes of Telemark ~Heavy Water War And for a plus National Geographics TV-series Drain the oceans (episode "Nazi Secrets") in my memory also depicts this mission and the aftermath of it
To be honest, I think it's more of a disgrace on WW2 history that the stories being told here but also a disgrace for the people that actually fought for it.
True. As a Chinese player, the biggest disgrace is that no WW2 FPS games included the Battles in the Asian Theater. (Don't ask me how I accessed TH-cam, some VPNs work in China)
The fact that there are so many hills in the first scene when it should be flat land, is actually a common thing in video games. It's used to hide the fact that the landscape mesh isn't that big, and that some props and VFX actors are floating in mid-air just outside the landscape's edge (see tracers flying into the sky). The thing is, CoD games are designed to run on older hardware easily enough so they can appeal to a broader market, not just those who spend thousands on a PC. Anything that is landscape and its textures get loaded into system memory (RAM). The bigger the landscape, the more memory is required. Furthermore, by using a smaller landscape mesh, it allows the level designers to add more details to the environment without sacrificing performance because the landscape is smaller. Long answer short: The hills are there to disguise the limitations of hardware.
Shoulda used fog like GTA San Andreas, Rockstar games did a great job in 2004 to hide the low render distance and they did diffrent weather conditions for where you were on the game's map too, in GTA 4 you had effects such as a lot of smoke from guns if you shot them for a long time in a interior or "beeeeeeee" if there was an explosion next to you
Except that even COD 2, COD 3 and COD: WWII actually managed to get the geography and terrain of Normandy right hence that's hardly an excuse for COD: Vanguard. Especially given that it's using the absolute latest graphics and game engine, to boot.
As a brit one thing that annoys me about this is they keep calling the sargent sarge that may fly for the yanks but YOU NEVER CALL A SARGENT SARGE IN THE BRITISH ARMY MATE!
That doesn't even fly for us yanks. That's a Hollywood thing. I served in an armored recon squadron for 6 years in the US Army. If I ever referred to one of my Sgt's as "sarge" I'd get my ass ripped off. Maybe it was a WW2 thing but I highly doubt it. Maybe you could get away with it in a supply clerks position but in a fighting unit where discipline and tradition is important I don't think it would fly.
Need to bear in mind that was very expensive at the time. British privates appear to get 2 shillings sixpence a day or £4.50 a month. If that £60 is true that's 13 months pay. In current terms using British private salary of 21k pa that's £23k per person for a spare parachute that will save very few people. At a 4 gbpusd rate of $240 you could buy 5 or so Thompsons, 20 Stens, 7 Garands etc. The extra parachute probably would make sense in training but not in combat.
It was more to do with the relatively low drop altitude making reserve chutes mostly pointless. During WWII, doctrine was to approach at low altitude to reduce the time any flak defenses had to react, and to ensure that the troops in one plane landed relatively close to each other, so they could form up into their tactical formations more quickly. If they had dropped from, say, a mile or 2 up, they would have been out of the reach of small calibre AA weapons (although bigger guns may have had more chance to adjust their fire and re-engage a target repeatedly), but the members of a platoon would have been spread over a couple of dozen square miles
Is that £60 in today's money or for the time? Becuase for the time £60 was a lot of money. The British army would probably of skint themselves trying to equip a single brigade.
Call of duty games were never made to be 100% accurate, it was made for profit. It's not surprising that the new games that come out are still not 100% accurate and most likely never will be.
As a gun nerd, a K-98 with the ww1 era gewehr 98 10 round, magazine and making it DETACHABLE is immensely triggering. That's just not how that works, and the 10 round magazine wasn't used in ww2 because it was clunky and unreliable
Yeah, the G98 WWI extended mags were mainly used in trench warfare and never standard issue. I can't recall if they were used by the Sturmtruppen, though. The thing is, literally nobody use detachable magazines on their service rifles except for the Lee-Enfield and a few semi-auto designs. Even then, the Lee-Enfield is loaded using chargers, and the few semi-autos of the war were mainly reloaded using stripper clips, too (magazines were scarce and expensive; John C. Garand's design of using en bloc clips was brilliant in solving supply chain issues and increasing the rate of fire of individual soldiers.)
11:05 I love how they are standing out in the open in front a massive burning building, illuminating them and making them stand out like sore thumbs. A well known tactic when invading an enemy camp.
Well if you stand around looking stupidly unimportant, the enemy might be on low on ammunition and decide not to waste their last few cartridges of ammo on you........ Nah not even that helps this scenic DEV Teams masturbatory display for cut scene style of images (when not video) with call backs to their own previous works to remind you how great they are in their own little heads. Feels like over half the designs want to make computer animated movie and not a game, so The playable parts are fit in between their film they're make you buy. A film if sold separately would bomb worse than Hiroshima was. I've long said since about the COD 2 first expansion they needed to separate the company, one just makes game that is playable the entire time with no cut scenes to fill and pad out single player game play, especially when all that is you walking through the forest or jungle to the next damn cut scene... Then Let the cut scene folks make their movie and have their future employment ride on the success and failure of that. Instead we get gaming companies filling 30 minutes of game play with 1.5-2 hours of cut scenes to make it look there is single player mission. Long Gone are the days of the special levels like "Black Cats" that paid homage to not often shown part of the war where courageous men served, saving many lives. Call of Duty has it specific every game must have like that just few inches to shy of a jump onto a helicopter/aircraft/or across terrain(Cliffhanger mission ice climbing in COD4MW2) and the annoying standing behind a door which when open will get an important character killed off. So sadly predictable with annoying jump scares......
7:57 He did have a bayonet. However, this is a huge error as well. Bayonet's don't just loosely hang onto the end of a gun. They have a locking mechanism to hold them in place to stop them from getting stuck in an enemy. Whoever Sledgehammer and Activision hired to do research should be fired and disowned. 13:48 Oh boy, do I love me an anachronistic detachable magazine for the K98. To my knowledge, the closest thing was a non detachable magazine used only in the first World War on the Gewehr 98.
@Pus Breath & Rutabaga Farts Possibly, but I've yet to see any evidence of such a mag existing for the K98 that served in the second world war, let alone it being detachable. I do however think it's more plausible than the near modern holographic sights lol.
@Pus Breath & Rutabaga Farts I know what you said and I agree, I just meant that I doubt the Germans would ever make a 20 round magazine for a carbine which is supposed to be mobile.
Brits referring to the Germans as "Krauts". The British rarely called the Germans "krauts", Kraut was largely said by the Americans. The British preferred calling the Germans "Jerries" or "Fritz" and on rare occasions "Huns" (though "Huns" was mostly First World War and by World War II "Huns" was largely replaced by "Jerries") Not only did the British not use the "Flash" and "Thunder" callsign, they got the word order wrong in the game! In reality it's "Flash" then "Thunder" not the other way rounf, which makes sense as you always see the lightning flash before hearing the Thunder (light travels faster than sound). Literally they just copied from a scene in Saving Private Ryan where they make the same mistake (incorrectly saying "Thunder" then "Flash" rather than "Flash" then "Thunder"). What is even more bizarre is it seems the game developers looked at Band of Brothers too, and in Band of Brothers actually got the password order right and there are numerous memoirs that say the same thing. They literally just ignored Band of Brother's correct use of the phrase and just lifted Saving Private Ryan's incorrect use of the phrase, once again just showing how lazy the game developers were with their research. Feature films should NOT be your main sources for accuracy and authenticity, memoirs, diaries, oral history, war letters, war documents, archives (ie. primary sources) along with books, museums and documentary films (secondary sources), these should be your sources.
EXACTLY! When the guy found his squad during the paratrooper mission, he screams “THUNDER!” 3x. Like he should be screaming flash, incorrect order. The entire game is just goofy ahh.
I would love to see a game that has a story from the German perspective of Normandy. A lot of the time German soldiers just get treated as disposable enemies, every one just as bad as Hitler, rather than human beings.
I know. There definitely were people who were Hitler supporters but most weren't. A good analogy is Russia rn invading Ukraine, people actually treat Russians as if they are cool with Putin invading Ukraine l, as if Russia isn't already a shit hole without war
A game where a platoon of German soldiers become slowly disillusioned by the atrocities their side is committing, and begin working with the Resistance to try and bring an end to it all
@@Nobodyknowsm Some of the brass maybe. Otherwise the German army made extensive use of conscription. There were certainly evil and sadistic men among the ranks, but it's misguided to name every last German soldier that served as an evil war criminal.
At this point, If COD does another WW2 game it should be totally in its alternate reality. Not only does it make the historical inaccuracy less offensive but it also opens up more cool story opportunities.
Watching this video about the Normady mission reminded me when I was a kid and I used to play Brothers in Arms, both "Road to Hill 30" and "Earned in Blood". Even though they're both 15+ years old I feel like the general representation of the battle is still much more consistent than the one here in Vanguard, even to this day: landscape, units, fights, dialogues, characters, details (uniforms, weapons, debries, colours, movements, woundeds, dead animals scattered in the fields...). I know this is about British paratroopers and those games weren't perfect and all accurate but, boys, at least they put a lot of effort: they were fun, immersive and, most of all, they made sense - while Vangaurd does not.
Well, Brothers in Arms is just the paramount of WW2 FPS games. Especially storywise. Not a single game can even get close to its fidelity to realism and quality of production. Those guys from Gearbox literally went to French to see for themselves where skirmishes took place, read all the combat reports and memoirs, used aerial recon photos from the past. The game designers literally made the player play through more or less the same scenarios as the actual paratroopers from WW2. And they didn't stop there, they wrote a whole encyclopedia describing how skirmishes took place, how the game developers implemented all the data in the game, how they shaped the maps in order to get precisely the authentic warzones themselves. It's just terribly disrespectful to even compare this masterpiece of a trilogy to shameless cash grabs that can't even show swastikas and have been profiting off the blood of their ancestors, for almost a good 20 years now. It's a huge shame for the society that Brothers in Arms trilogy are massively, and I mean it, massively and terribly underrated. That developing team gave us masterpieces with unmatched fidelity and they received nothing in return, no praise, nothing. It's very sad. I'm not even mentioning how Brothers in Arms introduced the original gameplay mechanic of squad commanding in FPS, how they based the gameplay and levels on Cover, Suppression, Flanking and not having a duck shoot like the stupid children's game called Call of Duty. Brothers in did not settle with having separate fireteams, but they even created fireteams of different utilities that affects their uses in combat. How they created incredibly true to reality character archs, deeper contexts to their story, prolonged mysteries (that were never once over-the-top or unrealistic) about their characters. Man, oh man. They made you befriend and care each and every squad member. How Hartsock had a bad temper, how he felt slightly, very subtly overshadowed by Baker. How Baker was subtly self-absorbed by his inner demons, experienced even hallucinations because of the secret he carried along. How Legget was slowly consumed by his mistake until his willing death (or suicide). God damnit. Why BiA had to end? Fuck this world, truly.
@@MsCem24 I couldn't agree more mate. Spent hours just looking at all the extras unlocked through gameplays at various difficulties - not only the game was fun and immersive, but it made you learn while playing, and made you curious how things went and how they recreated it, proud of having unlocked them. There should be more games like these, especially nowdays when almost everything is just cashgrabbing and cheap and mindless gameplay. Let's hope the 4th chapter will be this good as well
My grandfather was a paratrooper on D-day in the 82nd Airborne Division and landed in Normandy. I have most of his belongings from WW2 and my uncle has his standard issued uniform and rifle. He served in Africa, Middle East, and Europe. He was apart of the 508th infantry parachute division while stationed in Africa and the Middle East and went to Fort Benning, Georgia to get in the 82nd and serve on D-day. Then he went from Paris to Germany in months. He was a PFC and Honorably Discharged in 1946. He served as a Mortarman, truck driver, rifleman, and military policeman. He then became a police officer.
@@gordonramsay7470 The stupid Devs even said, "This game will be historically accurate" they always have to do special ops bullshit and not just a regular platoon like Cod WW2 or the older games like MW marines and old cod ww2 games.
A couple of things which you might not have noticed: the lieutenant was wearing a naval-looking woolen jumper, the German soldier's bayonet actually got stuck in the hanging para, the other paras which he meets are just standing in literally no cover in front of the burning windmill, unsafe not only because of the fire and the nearby Germans, but also because they are basically standing in front of a beacon of light, visible for miles. Also, the metal roadblock pieces are behind a tree anyway,
I remember a time, a decade and a half ago, when these companies made genuine military games of WW2 that, while very over the top and tongue in cheek with production quality, still felt more in tune with WW2 and the sensational feeling of being a regular grunt in the fight. Now its lost, the generation that made those games either moved on or retired, now replaced with complacent, lazy, entitled shit bags who want their views forced down your throat. And if you disagree, you're every -ist in the book of -ist's that they can possibly think of. Because inclusion, even if it means rewriting history, is more important than the History itself and telling the truth and reality of the conflict. Those men, if they were brought back, in their youth of their time, to see today, would be disappointed at what these companies have turned their conflicts into in regards to media.

I grew up on those good games. Now I'm forced to play them to play through an actual part of history, instead of looking forward to another fun-filled, historical walk through another battle(s). That political crap needs to fuck off from games. I'm sick of listening to dialogue lowkey shitting on men, or racially stereotyping for no reason. Not once did I EVER have the urge to start spewing racist crap, nor de-humanize women. I still don't. But them bring this crap up is not making it all go away, it's making the issues more prominent- or worse. It's like what Morgan Freeman once said in a major, televised, interview. 'Interviewer: "How do you end the nonsense that is racism?" Morgan Freeman: "Stop talking about it."' It is so damn simple, yet we're making it so absurdly complicated, even including this shit in video games, that the issues are festering far out of control, unchecked even. I wanna have fun playing a game, not be brainwashed by having stupid political viewpoints shoved down my throat.
You should do a comparison with World at War, that's still one of the best Call of Duty's of the WWII era. Just, not on Veteran... I know for a fact the grenade count is not historically accurate
Waw wasn't really that accurate either. But they got the immersion and atmosphere right so it "feels" authentic enough to belive. It's the same with BF1 not historically accurate but they got the themes and atmosphere nailed so it's better than this fake woke nonsense.
And the other thing is that is worse that MW2019, I wasted 100 dlls for this piece of shit, Campaign is bad, zombies is completely dog shit and MP is disappointing, so buggy and boring, it is truly one of the worst cods I've played since BO4, so disappointed and angry, they should never let sledgehammer games develop another cod game, this is the evidence.
I love how to Cod Vanguard (and other CoD as well) all germans are nazis (or are refered to nazis). It is known that all Wehrmacht soldiers weren't nazis. Calling Germans "Nazis" is a step to de-humanize them, but thinking and telling that all Germans were nazis is just re-writing history big time. I honestly don't understand how a company can still sell millions of copies of such a trash game.
Both CoD ww2 and waw didn’t call the nazis, ww2 largely calls them kraut instead of nazis (except the waffen SS at the gestapo headquarters in French resistance mission prob). While WaW calls them germans
WaW can be excused I'd say because I mean, you play as a Russian from Stalingrad to Berlin, you're probably gonna be dehumanising Germans at that point, Reznov sure was and represented that aspect. Chernov was like the moral aspect.
The Nazis were the ruling party of Germany, so yes, the Germans were fighting on behalf of the nazis. Even though the SS were def nazis, your average wehmacht was also nazi
Agree that it was shown as too light out during the jump, but more significant than that was the view looking down from the plane showing the C-47s packed together and directly below; when doing a mass tactical jump (any jump involving multiple aircraft), it is vital for the aircraft to fly in proper dispersion and staggered altitudes to avoid following planes colliding with paratroopers. They also need to be dispersed to better survive flak bursts. I was airborne and a common aircraft we jumped from was the C-47/DC-3 (usually a Forestry Service aircraft). Fortunately we didn't pack as many people into each aircraft as they did on D-Day.
Normandy drops were at low altitude, Richard Winters stated that he landed before he could even orient himself, and estimate his drop was only eight seconds of fall time, which meant that they actually dropped at about 400 feet.
Maj. Winters also exited his aircraft on D-day at nearly double the speed he was supposed too. The jump height was supposed to be at lowest 600 ft. and highest 2000 ft.
My fellow history fans this man had torn this game to bits and made cod look stupid again and I can’t blame him I’m screaming at the screen when I watched the campaign
@@shank8853 He absolutely needed to criticize this dog shit game. Hell no.
History fans don't expect historical accuracy in COD of all franchises. So picking this apart as a historian is like picking low hanging fruit. This is an interactive action flick, nothing more
@@zh2266 Would be all fine only if the COD developers just gave us disclaimers stating the fact that the games are based around real life events but mostly fictional. Just a heads up. For the British airborne drop, due to a lack of C47's (they were given priority to the US drop), Albermarles, Halifaxes, Stirlings and even Whitleys were used as troop planes for the drops. Yes, there were C47's but far from all aircraft in that drop were of this type. Whole battalions jumped through a circular hole in the floor or bombers due to lack of dedicated transports.
I’ve been to the Merville battery on a battlefield tour, very good site and an operation that’s very much Forgotten. What’s more interesting is that it was the only operation that achieved its D-Day +1 objectives
7:05 Actually, his bayonet got stuck after he thrusted it into the paratrooper. But on another note, either he didn't properly install his bayonet to the end of his rifle, or this would be a sign of a serious defect within the bayonet's latching system. If neither two of those were the case, he should still have the bayonet on the muzzle of his rifle.
Interesting that you should mention the cows. The Thin Red Line is probably the only film I've ever seen that actually puts some focus on the damage to nature that war does. Its not an easy watch due to the philosophical nature of the film, but the acting and scenery are a pleasure to watch. Mickey Rourke had a great scene that was cut from the film, real shame. Short scene but real impressive acting.
Can not believe you missed the fact the British paras were using BARS instead of Brens! This riled me something shocking 🙄. Also pretty much every para had corporal stripes even tho is said above their name Private, Sgt, l/cpl etc.
I think that historical realism can be suspended when it makes a more compelling game or story, so long as it still incites interest into the time period or event. EU4, Hacksaw Ridge, and Battlefield 1 all come to mind. Vanguard doesn’t do this.
I might know why the Germans are wearing great coats in the summer. The German soldiers in the game who use the kar98k or any kind of rifle wear the standard great coats while the soldiers who carry the mp-40 wear the standard field tunic. It’s not just in vanguard. In the campaigns of cod ww2, bfv, and even bf1 the soldiers wear different uniforms depending on the weapon they wield. In the case of bf1, it’s the gewher 98 and mp-18. It’s a small and weird detail but it’s one that seems to pop up consistently for whatever reason.
It's just to have class identity so you can tell what enemy you're up against before you actually see their weapon. It's a video game thing, I get why they do it and think it's fine so long as they still look believable, even if the uniforms aren't exactly appropriate for their respective season, just for the sake of gameplay. The other stuff is stupid tho lol.
@@HarlowLovesGaming yeah, it's a trope as old as wolfenstein and rise of the triad. Machine gunners officers rifleman all have their own unique looks to help with target prioritization.
@@BigWheel. yep, exactly! It's for gameplay reasons, so I think it's excusable in that regard. The rest of the stuff in this game is just dumb tho lol.
@@HarlowLovesGaming It does look pretty dumb, I played cod ww2 at launch and that's when I decided call of duty didn't have it in them to make a 2nd world at war. It was like watching saving private Ryan but it was directed by a 15 year old Micheal bay. Just not my cup of tea. That being said there's alot of things vanguard and world war 2 have been criticized for that I think is a little unfair because it ties into the over the top nature of call of duty, or its there for gameplay purposes. Like the uniform inaccuracies and even to some extent the gunsmith system (although it is quite bad I think it doesn't need to be 100% faithful to be immersive) I think that through broadening the scope of what's criticized we're inadvertently making it more difficult to really pin down what ruined this game and what should've been changed to make it something as beloved as world at War was, which I think is still the benchmark for a ww2 shooter game, and even that game has its inaccuracies and over the top moments.
@@BigWheel. oh yeah for sure, I can agree with most of that, I just think that they've absolutely pushed it too far, especially with Vanguard and its multiplayer where there are no factions, both teams have the same characters, the guns can be customised to the point of non-recognition, and you can dress up like a can of Monster Energy lol.
When the soldier hanging from his chute is stabbed you actually see the bayonet sticking out of him, This would mean that the pullback was so strong it disconnected the bayonet from the barrel. Weird stuff :P
4:23 one thing I definitely have to say is that nearly all of the British Paratroopers in this mission use American made T-5 Parachutes, these were used by American Paratroopers on D-Day and in operations before it, but one thing I should say is the harness it’s self is the American version, which both the American and British hated for its inability to not be easy to take off in quick succession (hence why probably a lot of U.S. Paras drowned on D-Day), the British used a quick press and release system that was so liked by the Paras, the American would modify their T-5s to use it for Operation Market Garden and later on Varsity. Also one major difference between the U.S. and British Paras is the Americans were the only country for its airborne forces in WWII to issue Reserve chutes for their Paratroopers. Meaning our Sgt.Kingsley when his chute fought fire and burned away he’d be most likely dead since the British didn’t practice using reserve chutes until the Post War era
Also by Market Garden the Veteren amount the US Airborne started to deliberately discard the reserves before the jump because of the dead weight and fact that they were jumping so low that if your primary parachute failed you would have been too low to deploy the second and have it be affective at slowing there descent
I remember the times when games were made with honor, with a dose of realism, with real facts, they were creative, they pushed the boundaries. I have been playing games since 2000, the games have been able to encourage me in my interest in history. Once upon a time, no one allowed themselves to twist history in favor of some fictional shit and excuses that they do it for fun, or because of some mechanics. The producers have no idea how much of the fictional things from the games will affect young players or they simply don’t care. They will influence their view of history after all. I vividly remember the first Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Hidden and Dangerous, or Vietcong. Strategies such as Company of Heroes, Men of War, Blitzkrieg, Sudden Strike, Commandos. In 22 years of playing video games, I have witnessed how this has changed. Developers are more focused on profit, the masses, children, the wallets of parents of children. Instead of creating something original, they just squeeze the old brands and if they don't know how to improve it, they give you collimators for rifles in the game about the Second World War, or started to be politicaly correct in time period, when this doesn’ exist in such a form like today. Anyone else remember COD: World at War? That game was praised by so many historians for its historical accuracy and the story was actually all about the real war that took place back then from the pacific theatre and the soviet/german european theatre perspective. In the cutscenes they used real photos and video footage from ww2 and the game was darkkkk, gloomy and gruesome. It was a realistic depiction of ww2 in a video game that really reminded one that human beings actually went through all of this only a relatively short time ago. This game is just plonked this made up story into ww2 time setting, pushed politically woke agendas with the black guy and the woman, showed no real footage or photos from the real war and was not historically accurate at all. This game could be based on any war and it any time, was really easy to forget the era and the war you’re fighting in this game and its horribly written.
7:06 He definitely has a bayonet, but apparently bayonets during that time had a trigger release because it disappears once the soldier pulls the rifle back out of the paratrooper. Thanks Activision, I needed a good laugh 😂🤣
Are we gonna forget that you can put a drum magazine on a m1 garand and you still hear the ping after the last shot? I did that and That is when I realized I wasted 30$ because I bought it on Black Friday. The graphics are decent but it takes a lot more than that to make a good game. I hate to say it but Battlefield 5 which is just as woke natured is better. It just is better.

One thing that I rarely see get brought up about this part of the game is that British Paratroopers didn't have backup 'chutes. They only ever had the one primary 'chute, and if that failed then there wasn't anything to be done about it.
21:35 there's also MP40's here with huge extended mags... there actually was a MP40 variant that took extended mags(literally just 2 normal mags welded or stamped together) and it had a odd looking magazine well, kind of looked like a upside down U. very odd and bulky, so it wasn't used much, especially that normal mags/MP40's wouldn't be as much of a hassle.
@@nolanmartin8544 the old 25 round trench mags from WW1. To use them in KAR 98k they need some modification because there’s an extra screw on the magazine cover compared to a normal Gewher 98 rifle from WW1 Still fed by stripper clips and doesn’t detach though
The trench near the battery actually makes sense, the germans dug anti tank trenches to secure locations against swift tank attacks. Thats why that trench is so wide, instead of the narrow infantry trenches
It’s not built like an anti tank trench. It’s fortified with sheet metal for absorbing shrapnel and has turrets/battlements which appear to be for infantry fighting. Don’t make excuses for them man.
if you look at a map the anti tank ditch at that place was on the other side than where the attack came from, makes sense but they still probably wouldn't've gotten into it like that

Based on info from the top of my head I'll say it would be more accurate if the tank was just parked somewhere with very little or no fuel. That ended up being the case towards the end of the war, Tigers were thirsty things.
That’s what I love. I want a cod game from the German perspective. People think that all Germans are nazis. The Wehrmacht were the German army. The SS were the nazi one
@@digitaal_boog although not all were nazis, most still (at first) wholly believed in the regime because of its perceived success - young men born not long before nazism came to power would have grown up with nazi propaganda shoved in their young brains. However I believe disillusionment kicked in around '42 when the atrocities were more apparent to the troops, that and the war turning against them

Ok, so the German bayonets the paratrooper who is stuck in a tree. For some reason, the bayonet get stuck in the paratrooper. You can see it after the stabbing. That's not how bayonets work. They aren't so fragile that after one stab would disconnect it from the rifle
On the topic of the germans killing paratroopers who are trapped or surrendering, I've seen MANY more accounts of the paratroopers killing German troops. Mostly it's slitting their throat as they walked by or even snapping their neck
American Paratroopers were given specific orders not to take any prisoners. I think this came from Maxwell Taylor because if the troops took prisoners it would mess up the momentum and slow down allied advances.
@@griz312 I think that was one of the reasons why Lieutenant Speirs was saved from an investigation and potential court-martial, regarding the incident with the German prisoners.

What pisses me off is all the obscure weapons that where never really used because they sucked in real life and all of the attachments they put on that didn’t even exist until the 1980s like red dot sights and such.
You missing something important about two of the guns. One is the revolving cylinder shotgun, which was an extremely rare weapon no matter where you were in the war. Second, the Volkstrum, a 1945-era last ditch, semi-automatic SMG that shows up ALL over the campaign. It's clear Activision didn't give a damn when making this game, as they kept getting important and simple things wrong. Also, the real life counter-part of that Webb guy? He was the one who took charge of the attack, not the one Arthur is based on, whom was not even on this mission to begin with.
Hey History. I love how you point out the winter coat on the riflemen. I was so confused when I played this game to see every single riflemen with a trench coat. I am glad somebody finally pointed this out. Thanks :).
Yeah, I saw that too. However, that's an even worse error. Bayonet's don't just loosely hang onto the end of a gun. They have locking mechanisms to hold it in place to stop it from doing what happens in the game.
That first German soldier cracks me up everytime. Winter coat in summer. Tri-colour helmet insignia that was mandated against back in 1940. MP40 mag holders despite having a rifle?
Fun fact: The Glider company that carried out Operation Deadstick - the famous capturing of the Pegasus Bridge and one more - had two black soldiers in their ranks. When they were preparing before embarking the gliders, the troops were blackening their faces with burned cork and one guy absentmindedly handed his piece to another. When it was not taken, he looked at saw that he had offered his cork to one of the black soldiers who just looked at him and said "I think I'll pass!"
21:25 the model 47 was actually out in 1945, but the thing that make Vanguard bullshit is the fact that the Nydar was never commercialized before the 60s
would it have been too much to have actually hired a historian look at how much we're learning, imagine how amazing it would've been to have seen all this in game and not altered to oblivion
The Germans wearing winter coats is probably the most glaring sign of the total lack of care. Everyone with even surface knowledge of WW2 knows D-Day was in June 1944. It's not even a mistake, the developers straight out did not care. The winter coat looked more in line with the sterotype of the nazis and they stuck with it. This and the terrain, they didn't even bother to take a minute to google how Normandy looks like.
I agree with a lot since you’re the expert and have enlightened me on history in general but I don’t think the player’s choice of weapon they picked up should be used as a criticism of historical accuracy.
An interesting thing to note, that paratrooper who was stabbed by the German, still had his Sten Submachine Gun on him. But of course the game doesn’t give you the option to pick it up
@@Sonof_DRN2004 Granted, we see Winters, in Band of Brothers (ep: Day of Days) using a Kar 98k initially after they ambush the German cart convoy under the bridge. He never had a chance to recover his M1 and the rest of his kit and gear as it had fallen near a German AA gun and recovering it posed too great a risk. But after finding deceased friendly paratroopers near a small barn, he took an M1 off one of the dead troopers and scavenged for ammo as well. While there are instances of troops are using their enemies' weapons. They are the exception, not the rule. I kind of find it silly that: A) You're forced to use a 98K instead of picking up the Sten on your comrades now deceased person. B) You can't pick up any ammo off either of the two Germans you've killed.

This representation of exploding planes and extreme carnage were not mentioned by anyone who jumped that day... one did comment on the amount of crap and shit that was coming up to meet him on the way down, but it was rifle fire and not to 20mm quads that this thing portrays...Battlefield 5 is just as bad, believe me. My tiger got knocked out by an M8 armoured car, while my 88mm rounds managed glancing blows...

A rough guess on the aircraft speed. The planes seem to be flying their own length (20meters) in about 1.5 seconds, maybe even 2. So maybe a little over 50kph. The speed of a car in a dense populated area.
Something else that COD: Vanguard gets wrong is that the British 6th Airborne Division actually failed to completely neutralize the Merville Gun Battery. The Germans eventually recaptured it, successfully managed to restore 2-out-of-4 of the ancient WWI-era Czechoslovak 100mm Howitzers back into operational condition and then fired them on British forces until the Germans began to withdraw from France on August 17, 1944. The raid was completely pointless not only due to the fact that the Merville Gun Battery wasn't actually equipped with the 155mm Coastal Anti-Ship Guns as claimed by British military intelligence, but also due to the fact that the British never actually knocked the Merville Gun Battery out of commission, as well. And yet COD: Vanguard goes out of its way to overhype and overexaggerate this operation, saying completely idiotic nonsense such as how the Normandy Landings would've "failed" should Arthur "Gary Stu" Kingsley not have single-handedly saved the day. Talk about an epic fail on Sledgehammer's part.
There are a few missed details and mistakes in this vid, one mistake is literally nothing but that German soldier that stabbed that British para hanging in the tree did have a betonet, it just came off somehow and stated in the para. The missed detail is that the British had much better parachutes, they were designed with a fast released mechanism on the chest so British paras that did land in water survived much much more than Americans. Other than that, I LOVED THE VIDEO, been following you on Insta for years now and was one of your first insta followers :)
History Legends: "Why do you have barbwire on the side of the bridge?" Germans: Uhhhh...to stop people climbing up. History Legends:Why did i not think of that?
Man, if that German at the start had taken the paratrooper prisoner, that guy could have been the start of a cool thing where you slowly gather together a group of paratroopers until you eventually have enough fighting strength to complete your objective. They even use it as the tutorial for stealth takedowns!
You mentioned the Pegasus bridge. The British soldiers who took that bridge came in gliders so that the enemy wouldn't hear planes. They were towed and released just off the coast, then the pilots navigated by the light reflected from the rivers below. One of the gliders landed less than 200ft from the bridge and the Germans defending it actually heard the thump in the dark. They were taken prisoner (not shot) minutes later.
I followed this guy on Instagram for a while now and his content is very good. I always wished they would do movies and video games on lesser known events of world war 2 accurately but I guess that's asking too much from game developers lol . It says a lot when old ps2 games seem to be more accurate when they didn't have the technology to work with back then. Also now that I think about it there hasn't been any games I've ever heard or seen about the Korean War. I'm sure there are some but instead of doing this to world war 2 game companies should do a accurate Korean War video game. Even go the extra step further and give spotlight to the other nations that sent troops. Like have a US and South Korean story and even a north Korean and Chinese story but also maybe a Greek and Turkish story because from what I've read they fought extremely well during the Korean war for example. I know that will never happen and instead game companies will continue to make wierd versions of ww2 shooters like this.
Just like most games out of the west, it lack originality. Game companies don't hire creative people. They hire people who specialize in a certain fields. The business people and engineers which are commonly non-creative types are the designers which commonly lead to non-creative games. What they consider creative might be an insignificant feature compared to a larger portion of an experience.

Still not an excuse, if they did it at night like they were supposed to you could just not render the limits with darkness
I didn't knew, that's justifiable. But still, realism isn't there anymore if that's the case.

Tiny thing here. British airborne forces never carried reserve parachutes. Apparently the extra £60 wasn't worth spending
How hard can it be to get that detail right?
It was more to do with the low altitude that the drops took place from, simply no time to deploy the reserve in the event of a problem.

Garand's design of using en bloc clips was brilliant in solving supply chain issues and increasing the rate of fire of individual soldiers.)

@Pus Breath & Rutabaga Farts Yeah, they have a good representation of it in Verdun. Imagine the logistics nightmare for those things tho lol.
Brits referring to the Germans as "Krauts". The British rarely called the Germans "krauts", Kraut was largely said by the Americans. The British preferred calling the Germans "Jerries" or "Fritz" and on rare occasions "Huns" (though "Huns" was mostly First World War and by World War II "Huns" was largely replaced by "Jerries")
Not only did the British not use the "Flash" and "Thunder" callsign, they got the word order wrong in the game!
Then how do you accuse devs are lazy? What about directors of such movies?
That is the reason they called the german liquid container "Jerrycan" and not "krautcan" ;)
If I remember correctly, the Flash/challenge Thunder/pass was chosen because the German language does not include the “th” sound.

They’ve basically done that already, same with Battlefield
The opening scene for the mission looks similar to Brothers In Arms road to hill 30 too
Well, Brothers in Arms is just the paramount of WW2 FPS games.

Maj. Winters also exited his aircraft on
D-day at nearly double the speed he was supposed too.
The jump height was supposed to be at lowest 600 ft. and highest 2000 ft.

Like the uniform inaccuracies and even to some extent the gunsmith system (although it is quite bad I think it doesn't need to be 100% faithful to be immersive)
I think that through broadening the scope of what's criticized we're inadvertently making it more difficult to really pin down what ruined this game and what should've been changed to make it something as beloved as world at War was, which I think is still the benchmark for a ww2 shooter game, and even that game has its inaccuracies and over the top moments.

Someone finally brought attention to the no reserve parachute thing
And even if it stops working for devs, they will start remastering and remaking what has already reached its peak. In short, laziness, disappointment and nonsens.

@@griz312 totally, airborne troops taking prisoners is completely impractical
@@griz312 I think that was one of the reasons why Lieutenant Speirs was saved from an investigation and potential court-martial, regarding the incident with the German prisoners.

Do you really believe that more USA paratroopers landed and slit throats of the germans than germans shooting and killing them ? Come on now grow up and dont spread bs information.
Your an absolute legend in covering this nonsense! And it’s great that you are literally teaching us history and geography at the same time!
Hey History. I love how you point out the winter coat on the riflemen. I was so confused when I played this game to see every single riflemen with a trench coat. I am glad somebody finally pointed this out. Thanks :).
7:02 he DOES have a bayonet. Apparently it gets stuck in the paratrooper.
Yeah, I saw that too. However, that's an even worse error. Bayonet's don't just loosely hang onto the end of a gun. They have locking mechanisms to hold it in place to stop it from doing what happens in the game.
Lmao it did
That first German soldier cracks me up everytime.

With the love the devs put into that game I swear I would be one of the best ww2 stories ever
I think this is my favourite video ever on TH-cam. Normally I am the one pausing and talking about inaccuracies, but you did it for me lol
I agree too. Mostly on the last part
An interesting thing to note, that paratrooper who was stabbed by the German, still had his Sten Submachine Gun on him. But of course the game doesn’t give you the option to pick it up
@@Guilherme-ps3tw yeah but it’s your choice whether you want to use a German gun or not
@@Sonof_DRN2004 Granted, we see Winters, in Band of Brothers (ep: Day of Days) using a Kar 98k initially after they ambush the German cart convoy under the bridge.

B) You can't pick up any ammo off either of the two Germans you've killed.

You made a mistake here. What you identified as a C-47 looks more like a Douglass DC-2. That would also make the amount of paratroopers on board correct since it could carry up to 14 Passengers
C-47s were used in military service. The DC-2 was not. The C-47 was also a military version of the Douglas DC-3, a related aircraft.
A DC2 shouldn't even be there, they were used in that capacity in WW2.
It’s a DC-3 and the military designation was C-47.
Could still be an DC-2. Remember this is COD Vanguard.
Honestly, I can forgive the fucked vehicles personally. They’ve done that ever since WaW where you can see fucking King Tigers in Stalingrad, so that’s nothing new.
Everything else is a different story
For my undergraduate degree I interviewed Veterans of Normandy. A couple were from the attack on Merville and another landed near Pegasus Bridge to support the glider troops.
You can't blame the game developers. War simply isn't dramatic enough so you have to add spectacle to make it more interesting.

A rough guess on the aircraft speed. The planes seem to be flying their own length (20meters) in about 1.5 seconds, maybe even 2. So maybe a little over 50kph. The speed of a car in a dense populated area.

Why is there a bunch of cherry blossoms in the Normandy countryside in the SUMMER of 1944?
I like how this Opel Blitz truck instantly exploded from 9mm Para rounds. In Hollywood, everything instantly explodes when it’s german
4:28 I don’t think British paratroopers had reserve parachutes
Love your 💡

I always hate how COD sometimes deliberately tries to make the Nazis, Japanese, Soviets, and others just plain evil as hell.
