I’ve only realised this now, but Drake of the 99 Dragons is everything that executives thought was popular in the 90’s and 00’s, which of course was absolutely nothing close to what consumers wanted, because that’s how executives are.
Yeah, let's be honest here. Executives couldn't be more out-of-touch with the world around them, if they literally lived on the moon.

Like most gamers I see prioritize playing a 80 hour rpg or some boring snes game over hygiene and anything to keep your body healthy

Hell, I tend to have a more easy-going attitude when it comes to long-running franchises, because I've seen time and time again, that it's ultimately one of the more healthier mind-sets to have.
Just don't mistake that as me not willing to call out corporate bullshit when it happens.
I don't know considering the game came out a month after the third Matrix movie so many stuff like this was not a bitter goal by Executives but other people.

Y'know the worst part is, Drake dying and waking up in random places is actually a great idea for a sandbox game with rogue-like elements
You're wandering around, doing a quest, then get killed. You need to wait several hours (in-game) for your body to heal, so you wake up suddenly and you're in a morgue somewhere... because they found a random dead guy in the streets and that's what they do with random dead guys they find in the streets.
So you bust out of the morgue, collect up your weapons again, get going and bam, dead again, this time you wake up in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and manage to bust out but find you're already several in-game miles away from your destination.
That idea itself is actually really solid... it's just a shame it's trapped in a terrible game like this.
To be honest, this game LOOKS like it COULD have been cool. I mean, a game with Matrix-style action, comic book graphics, and a si-fi/Japanese mythology storyline? That could have been AWESOME!

But its tone certainly helps Reaper be a little charming in his unabashed Shadow the Hedgehog-ness.
As opposed to Drake's almost complete lack of charm or enjoyable tone. Well, it's unintentionally hilarious in how inept it is, I suppose.
So when you die, they put you into a wait screen, which takes you to a punishment wait screen, which takes you to a wait screen, which takes you back to the game. All that because you died in a game that's almost impossible to play. That's fair. (*Sarcasm*)
They could've made it less annoying (not that it would matter, it's a shitty game anyways) by making the whole "being moked in the spirit realm" THE only loading screen.
Like the elevators in many games, those are stealth loading screens lol.

it would have been better if being in the spirit realm had a benefit like buying new weapons or temporary boosts to health or damage and act as a hub world if drake dies after every level
Of all the old jokes that Jared probably cringes at, my personal favorite is Jared's non-explanation of Tang's plans at 13:12. He just gestures after not giving an explanation and it cracks me up every single time.
Jared is probably the most consistently funny TH-camr I've seen. His Two Worlds video still holds up quite decently

you know, after rewatching this I just noticed this is basically Cheetahmen all over again, with the developers trying to make it a franchise before the game even lauched
Even that got a standalone sequel after the first game was part of Action 52. Plus a third game was planned for a system that never came out.
God, 2011 and this man STILL looks the same today.

I saw Drake Of The 99 Dragons at a video game store and I touched it's putrid case. I bought Ocarina Of Time 3D instead the next day.
Obviously those pistols were made by Tediore.

I've got it! The Drake of the 99 Dragons Charity Gang! Basically, playing the entirety of Drake of the 99 Dragons to 100% completion gives money to charities of your choice, like treatment for cancer, or helping impoverished kids. I think that's the only way someone should ever play the game.

Ride to Hell was originally going to have a franchise until the game was an atomic disaster, which means that Ride to Hell & Drake of the 99 Dragons both have something in common: Their franchises ended before they even began, and suffered the same fate as a result.

He dives there like some sort of 5 year child playing spy or something, points his gun at everything while looking extremely confused, and literally just stays kneeling there doing nothing while everyone else shoots

I'm guessing that whole 'pull out two new guns instead of reloading' thing is a reference to the lobby gunfight scene in The Matrix, where Neo runs out of ammo for his duel pistols and takes two more because he doesn't have time to reload.

Play GunGrave, it has cel shaded graphics, has a mafia/sci fi theme going on, kick ass music, a BETTER comic book style, and it's not as boring as this piece of garbage.

This brings me back to the time when Americans were trying so hard to include Asian elements in their games, i say Asian because it was like they couldn't decide if they wanted Chinese or Japanese elements and just sorta mashed them together...
Anyone else think this could be remade by PlatinumGames or the branch at CapCom that worked on Devil May Cry? I could totally see it: take the gunplay and combos of Bayonetta, the speed of Vanquish, and use the magic planned for Spellbound, and we could get a good Drake of the 99 Dragons remake.
Drake jumping out of the window and dying straight up takes me back to watching the Other Guys where the Rock and Samuel L. Jackson aim for the bushes.
Moral of the story: Stick with Halo, Doom 3, and KoTOR.

I heard they had like only six months to develop the game. The game had so much potential, even for a multimedia series, to be honest. If they hadn't stuck with the stupid limit they were given, it could have become a franchise I would have certainly enjoyed.

Yeah, a story driven 3rd person shooter inspired by comic books and John Woo films done right sounds amazing. Good thing that happened 2 years before Drake Of The 99 Dragons, it's called Max Payne so this game would've been unnecessary even if it was done competently

Shut up. Both characters are based off of late 90s/early 00s action films like Underworld and The Matrix. It's one thing to make one or two comparisons, but some of you seem to think Reaper is based on Drake. There's more to life than Overwatch, no matter how fun the game is.
Reaper isn't taken at all seriously, and is one of the poster-characters for the game. So it wouldn't surprise me if they were saying this to _insult_ Overwatch.
But yeah I got both character's references pretty quickly.
