Hi. Please stick to the instructions for your particular application. Regardless of the instructions, you can still get a sense of how to argue certain points from these videos. For example, you can use how we described our interests here in paragraph 1 to construct yours. Same for describing your educational or work experience. I hope that helps
It is not compulsory if it is not stated as a requirement on the department's website. Having said that, I always advise you mention one or more professors whose research interests you. It sort of shows you have some clarity on your goals and have done your research about the department to know the professors that can potentially mentor you to achieve your goals.
They can be interchangeable terms as they often comprise of similar sections/information needed to fully understand your person and your goals. You should always lookout for any instructions on the department webpage on how to write these documents. If in doubt or if instructionsare lacking, you may contact the graduate coordinator for clarifications. If they don't reply, use th resources we have here to draft yours and if they reply, some of the information needed would have been addressed in our SoP videos so you can still use these ideas to argue your case when writing whichever essay.
