You made mention that it is important to include names and previous interactions with a professor in the chosen department when writing the SOP, but in the video about reaching out to a professor, you said to include a statement of purpose as an attachment to the mail being sent out. How is this going to be possible. Thank you.
Hello, Solomon. This video assumes you are writing your final version of the SoP for your online application. This paragraph in the SoP for cold emails to profs may simply talk about other things like facilities, students you may have discussed with, and/or how the school's environment will be a good fit for your development. Is the lab an extension/affiliation of the university? Yes, you can talk about it. Many universities have off-campus locations so it is not a big deal.

If I received positive feedback from an advisor and was encouraged to apply first to the university, then later upon admission the advisor will consider having me in his lab...is that okay to include in my SOP?
Sure! Something as simple as like: "I recently had the opportunity to discuss my grad school aspirations with Dr. Xyz and he encouraged me to apply to the program." Good luck!
I don't think there is a universally -agreed number. for me, I'd limit them to 3-4, and make sure that these interests are structured towards what you can get among the faculty of each program you are applying to.
How to proceed depends on how the department admits new students. Is there a requirement to have someone agree to be your advisor before submitting an application? In this case, you'll absolutely need to mention a prof here. If this not the case, you may try to have a chat with a student, or a "successful" alunmi and mention the name here. It's just always better to have the prof's "connection" here. Ultimately, it is your qualifications that will determine your competitiveness for most top programs.
Absolutely! Consider it as an introduction because they would likely be the ones to decide/vote on who to admit into their department. At the very least, ensure you introduce yourself to the graduate coordinator of that department.
