Summary of the video: 1.Set your goals 2. Packing paragraphs with answering whys 3. Engage your audiences (express your passions in your entire essay) >> start with who you are and why this pertain to your goals(that program, specific school, and your society)>>(introducing yourself as a whole and why your are intrested in something) 4. Express your self(how you have prepared for that program)(every thing in your academic life and experinces in every stage of your life)>>(how you have prepared for this next academic adventure) 5. Connect your SOP to your program and your work 6. Push yourself working on SOP without any distraction on a daily basis. (20 min a day)

I have done a very stupid thing: I decided to give US universities a shot within a span of 4 months. I decided in September, most submissions were in December/January. This was an idiot move, I know. I'm terribly scared because my life's dream is to get a PhD from my three shortlisted unis. Now that only one of my submissions is left, most have been completed by December and one is in February, I keep realising that even within two months I have polished my SOP so much. This last school is like...my least-favoured option. So, I'm just mad at myself that I've written half-baked essays for my top preference schools. I really wish that I had taken a whole year to prepare, I was just too tired of my soul sucking job and needed a jolt. Wish me luck, guys, If I do get in, I will surely update. Thanks for reading my rant xx
do you have to write both a Personal Statement AND a Statement of Purpose for Harvard? The website is not very clear about this and it even has different word counts for each (PS = 500 words, SOP = 1000 words). Most schools require only one.
Hi Schola. I've heard polarizing opinions about mentioning specific people/professors in the essay. Some say it's good because it shows that we have done our research about the school whilst demonstrating clear goals. However, others also say it might rub the admissions committee the wrong way, especially if the professor that we mention isn't part of the admissions committee. What do you think about this? P.S. Personal statements at UK universities are far more academically focussed. They disdain a bunch of personal info, which is pretty frustrating.
