    Fantastic review of this keyboard. I got the PX S3000 recently and it is seriously incredible. One thing good to additionally mention is the depth to which the DSP parameters can be edited which is a massive feature of this keyboard. By pressing for a few seconds on the DSP setting when it's on you can edit each and every single DSP setting to how you wish, and many of these settings have up to 4 different effects at once, a huge variety of amp models etc. In actuality the number of sounds available on this keybard is crazy, is literally in the many thousands. I think that the guy who made the videos about the key weight made a big issue about something that is really a non issue, especially as you can adjust quite a number of settings regarding the keyweight/dampening/string resonance etc to a very good degree. Would say that a number of rival manufacturers are not too happy about this keyboard - somewhat understandably - as for the price what you get is pretty amazing. Happy to subscribe to your channel, a lot of great content on here. All the very best to you.

    I have had the PX-S3000 for a year and love it. I gig with it at least once a month. I had been using a Yamaha S90ES. I love the Yamaha, still have it in my studio, but hate the weight. This Casio combined with the carrying case are perfect for playing with a group. I have had a problem with the volume knob moving while playing (getting quieter). This was solved with duct tape. At first I couldn't remember where the volume level was (black knob/black case), so I used a silver marker to create an index...problem solved. I play standing and am pretty "active" when playing live. Unfortunately my large mitts have a tendency to hit the drum section of the controls when playing. I covered this up and haven't had a problem since. Using the controls when playing live is awkward. To many menus. This is quickly solved by using an iPad and the Casio software. I tried this using and Android tablet and it didn't work. The iPad (air) was the way to go. The combination of PX-S3000 and the Casio app are prefect for gigging. This will let you split and layer on the fly along with quickly find different voices. You can not beat this instrument for the price!!!🤠

    Chuck, thanks for the very nice overview. The new CDP and Privia have battery operation option, great! I will have to check out the 1000. The CDP-S350 looks very good at $500, wish it was $450 or less, since no stand or bench. The 3000 at $800 is expensive. In the past, I had a Privia and hated the tiny buttons, it hurt my fingers, especially changing in real time. I did not like the screen. The new lighted writings and equal sign flush buttons look good. I have a CDP-235R, which I like. In the past, I had a CDP-200R, which was very good, with stand and bench $450. Price is important. I previously bought some expensive keyboards in the $2,000-3,000 range. Never again! Casio is smart. Their name Casio and Privia on the front are in grey lettering, not too big. I hate when companies put their names on their instruments in huge white letters, such a distraction at a church. We are not being paid to advertise for these companies, so one has to block out their name. Casio has class, putting their name in a discreet way. I want Casio to succeed. Keep the prices low to beat out Yamaha, Korg, and the rest.

      Hello Thomas, just a few words about PX S3000 vs CDP350. I checked them ( and a few others ) before to buy the 3000... and had quickly pushed the 350 out of my wish list.
      CDP 350's profile is very similar to the PX S3000. But I immediately saw some ( relative ) drawbacks :
      - It doesn't sound as well as the PXS3000. It is obvious, although both carry 2x8w speakers
      - The polyphony is 64 notes, and I was afraid it is not enough for what is not a simple digital piano : layer, arpegiator, accompagniment, audio in, midi in etc ....
      - And the key is slightly below the 3000 in term of feeling.
      I don't wan't to point wich is better for the money, and everyone should find what he is happy with his money. But when it comes to musical instruments, we always come to things that can not be rated in terms of money, in the end...

    Chuck, another nice review. One thing though: It's fine that you prefer a lighter touch setting, which probably goes well with the pop music you enjoy. I have to query your saying that light touch gives more dynamic range. I've always considered that the whole point in having a harder touch is making it easier to control dynamic responses at a fine level, particularly in quieter passages.
    The trade off is you have to press harder to get the same loudness as you would have with a light touch setting. So, more control of the dynamic range, but harder work increasing the volume. Perhaps the lighter touch is like using a big paint brush. Easier to get through the work, but potentially lacking on detail.

    • @paulgribbon2837
      @paulgribbon2837 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also like the lighter touch setting. I find pressing harder (or faster) just doesn't give the same loudness on this keyboard as you would expect. I just wish the touch setting wouldn't reset back to "normal" when you turn the unit off. Anyone know of a way to make the light touch setting stay on as the default setting? I know it can be saved within a voice registration but I'd like to keep it as a global setting.

    Hi Chuck, does it bother you that all the black keys are lighter than the white keys? It is driving me nuts!

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Not at all.... and it didn't bother James either who went out of his way to point that out using fancy weights AFTER he spent so much time actually praising the product with wonderful words and demonstrations of how easy it was to play classical music on it. He's a hypocrite who isn't fooling any experienced keyboard player, and he's lost credibility with many on the forums. He's trying to compare the wooden keysticks of an acoustic piano with a completely different design alltogether - you cannot have that same design in a keyboard unless you have real wooden keysticks like Kawai does at $3K. But for the PX-S1000/3000 the design is actually quite superior! Exactly what about this design is driving you crazy.... and would it drive you crazy if you hadn't seen Jame's ploy on it to get attention drawn to himself?

    • @tschlagel

      Thank you so much for asking this question. Ive had my 3000 for almost a year. I too watched (in horror) the vid referred to here. Being a Piano noob, I never noticed the “key weight” issue. But just after watching the review by James, it suddenly became an “issue” for me. It didn’t help that he wrapped up the review by pretty much trashing nearly everything about the 3000, stating that he wouldn’t even recommended this keyboard for a child. I’m so happy to see Chuck’s reply to your question. Besides, I think it will be a while before I’m concert ready for Clair De Lune. With Chuck’s response, I feel like a small bronze weight has been lifted from my old shoulders. I can now play and enjoy my piano in peace again. Thank you, gentlemen.

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You say that as a piano noob you never noticed the "key weight" issue. Well guess what... neither did James as he happily demonstrated himself playing a difficult Classical piece on it while stating how much better the Casio action was compared to more expensive keyboards, and that he'd be unable to play that same passage on other, costlier boards! Then later on he started this whole key weight dilemma. James should be the poster child for the definition of hypocrite! There's a reason the Casio PX-S1000/3000 have won "best in show" at NAMM 2019, "Key Buy Award" by Keyboard Magazine, and numerous other awards.... as well as being played by many pianists around the world. As far as I'm concerned this was never an issue for anyone until James made it an issue!

      @@PianoManChuck is right on. James is also deleting all comments from his TH-cam channel that disagree with him or question his methods at all. Pretty disgusting. I think he parents must have beat him as a child with a Casio or something.

    Hi Chuck, Great review as always. The PX-S3000 is a great keyboard, I tried one at the store!
    My idea is to do a left hand bass split with organ or piano on top and sing over the various drum patterns; busking basically.
    My questions are: 1] Is a registration basically a saved performance? 2] Can I edit the volume of the drum patterns or instruments and save that that as a registration/performance . 3] Can I name it? 4] Can I easily change the registration/performance really fast for a live set? If so. how many song template registrations could I have saved and ready.

    I have had one for a couple years and love it. Love it! The ONLY thing that bothers me is the tuning of the piano in the upper octaves. Piano tuners "stretch" the higher octaves because if they are perfectly tuned (no "beats" when played with lower middle octaves, each note vibrating exactly TWICE as fast as the same note an octave lower), the upper notes sound flat. On this unit, the upper octaves are NOT stretched, but vibrate mathematically exactly twice as fast as their adjacent lower octave. I don't know if Casio has addressed this since mine was purchased.

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  ปีที่แล้ว

If I did purchase something like this, it would be ideal for doing split bass and organ with the upper four octaves triggering the organ sound and the bottom 2 1/2 for bass.

    How do find the action on this? I've heard that the black keys have a lighter weighting than the white. How do you find it?

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The entire black/white key thing comes from one person (James Shawcross), who seems to have it out for Casio. First of all, he only talks about, and demonstrates the physical aspects of the black/white keys. This only holds true in physical (acoustic) pianos.
      The one thing he consistently leaves out is the "smart scaled hammer action" which balances the feel out! Closest analogy example of this would be to change the velocity setting on ANY digital piano... while its all electronic - fooling you into thinking you're playing a heavier, lighter, or medium action... part of the "smart scaled hammer action" works much the same way, compensating for black & white keys. Unfortunately, all he talks about is the physical aspect... and if you try posting anything contrary to what he says on his channel, he'll delete it!

    • @miodragj
      @miodragj 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are, noticeable. I'm a total beginner, but it is noticeable even for me. Just before James review i thought it is not wrong.
      But, if you ask me, it is a not a deal breaker. I don't see that as a problem. Honestly, I think this instrument is a huge value for money and is really great sounding instrument. Small form and sound quality are noticeably better than Roland FP-10 or FP-30, which has great action, even escapement simulation for a reasonable price. But their speakers are not on the best side. I guess you can't have everything in one product! :)
      If you ask me, major flaw for Casio 3000 is the fact that they "forgot" to put Bluetooth MIDI connection :(.
      Roland FP-10 has great Bluetooth MIDI and you can connect almost every possible iPhone, iPad Pro and use apps like a garage band to make incredible music piece for almost no investment. Just you and your talent! Today, everyone has a cell phone! But considering what you get for the price, and great sound from in built speakers, Casio 3000 is a winner for absolute beginner. I'm just in doubt 3000 vs 870. Price is almost the same...

The price in my country is similar .My new piano will be for home and stage use. What do you think is better instrument?

I'm playing it through a Roland KC-150 and I'm not pleased with the sound, it's hollow and seems like the mid-range is missing.. Can you or anyone out there recommend a good reasonably priced keyboard amp that would pair well with the 3000?

    “Keytouch off, I don’t know why you’d want that”
    Keytouch off is for Organ. It drives me nuts when an organ patch has velocity and sustain. I also hate when there is a Leslie effect that can’t be controlled.

    • @Zoco101
      @Zoco101 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Why not have choice on the touch? New applications for keyboards are invented all the time. Then there are the old applications. A fixed touch is good for harpsichord, and maybe even for harpsichord parts played with a piano voice. Maybe good for J. S. Bach.

    • @thomaspick4123
      @thomaspick4123 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the observation. Agree with you about the Leslie. I have a Kawai ES 8. The piano sounds are good, keyboard touch realistic. When organ sound selection, my left pedal toggles the Leslie from fast to slow. I love it. Your hands stay on the keyboard, just tap your left foot on the left pedal. Previous commenter noted. Organs have expression pedals to swell the volume when needed. I liked organ expression pedals that had the pitch bend levers on the side. I would like to assign that to a pedal. I like pitch bend, but do not want to remove a hand to operate the wheel. Garth Hudson must of had a pitch bend wheel on the expression pedal of his Lowery organ. And boy, did Garth do some great lead work with pitch bends on songs with the Band.

    • @rodtompkins
      @rodtompkins 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed about organ patches and Leslie effects. Happily, the organ and harpsichord tones in the S3000 don't respond to velocity regardless of the touch response setting, so it's not necessary to change anything for them to behave normally. It also allows control of Leslie speed and depth via the 2 assignable knobs and it speeds up and down gradually as with the real thing. I've never owned a real organ, so I'm probably not as discerning as you, but I'm having fun exploring the organ sounds on the 3000 and plan to start using them some on my gigs.

    What are your thoughts about the scandal regarding the black keys being weighted less than the white keys? I did watch the video where he used weights to show the difference between the black and white keys.

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This "scandal" is something James Shawcross started and continues to use to bash Casio with. In the beginning, he played a very difficult classical piece on this keyboard, praising how much better it is for classical than any other board in that price range and even higher! Then a few weeks later he did a 180. You can NOT compare the keys of a digital piano to an acoustic piano by any stretch, unless you're comparing high-end Kawai digital pianos that use actual wooden keysticks. All other digital pianos use much shorter keys and electronics to compensate. Casio went a step further and designed "smart scaled hammer action" (intelligent software control + electronics) to mimmick the feel of an acoustic piano when you're playing it - NOT putting weights on it. I challenge you to try one at your local retailer and see if you agree.

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW: James Shawcross will actively delete any and all comments on his videos that challenge or go against ANY of his thoughts or opinions (under the guise of him seemingly not tolerating "misinformation"). He even stated this in his video!

    • @PianoManChuck
      @PianoManChuck  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm getting so tired of answering this question in emails, comments and other ways. James Shawcross is the ONLY person complaining about this when just a few weeks prior, he actually praised the action - talk about hypocrisy. Yes, if you have the power off, they're lighter... but when the power is on, Casio's "Smart Scaled Hammer Action" firmware makes up for any differences in key weights, similar to what any other keyboard does with 'velocity settings'.

I love the Stage Piano tone in the 3000 so much that I never use the Grand Piano tone. Stage Piano is not available on the 1000, so anybody on the fence about the 1000 vs the 3000 should try them both out first even if you don't want all the extra features of the 3000. If you can afford the extra $200 you'll get everything in the 1000 and SO much more.
