      Non contact injuries are usually build up injuries... there are rare instances where it is because of just an unfortunate landing and it caused an injury or something like that.... but looking at the video and the moment the injury happened, that position he was in is completely fine and has done that movement pushing off his left leg all year.... but im guessing that crazy second half of the season playoff push took some toll on his body.

    My assumption is that it's most likely an overuse/fatigue/residual-stress issue, built-up over time.
    I see this time & time again, especially in the NBA. Particularly obvious when an athlete overly relies on speed/power & more so when an athlete has a minor injury in one part of the kinetic chain, which leads to a more severe injury in another part of it later, if rushed back onto the court & not load managed well i.e. KD with the Warriors, Lin with the Nets, D.Rose with the Bulls. That's why i really appreciated Kawhi taking the time & getting the consultations he needed for his leg injury back with the Spurs & managing it while at the Raptors, eventually leading to that 2019 championship.
    In my line of work, i perform massage therapy & other manual therapy applications on clients to aid recovery & regulate stress levels. But more importantly, rest (specifically quality sleep), diet
    & a good training regime seem to work best to prevent this. Hard thing to do when you're a professional athlete playing at high levels of intensity & competition.

    Strained my calf in that stretched position in 2018, it felt like someone hit my calf with a bb gun. It took a good 2 months to get back to volleyball.
    Granted Luka has around the clock medical care.
    I recently felt the back of my knee/upper calf lock up and strain in mid March, a few days of walking oddly but walking normal but still feel tightness when on a stationary bike or stair climbing.

    Playing with a tight and injured calf can lead to an Achilles tear - which is FAR FAR worse. Some players have never been the same after an Achilles rupture, so it's best to avoid that at all costs.

      @@BrianSuttererMD ohh no way I did Biomedical, are you Biomedical as well?
      Okay gotcha so that’s the definition. I wish my biomechanics class had more sports applications that would’ve been cool. Maybe I can find a class like that in my masters! For future videos could you talk about if the improvements in helmet technology have decreased concussions and head injuries in football. (NFL, College, Youth) Or if there’s any preventive measures out there to prevent CTE or head to head contact. For ex: I’ve seen players wear neck bands to promote more blood flow & CSF to the brain for added protection. Luke kuechly wore a neck device on his jugular to increase flow, etc. Would love to see and hear your analysis on it.

    Could you explain Ben Simmons’ back injury and the epidural injection to help relieve his back pain. ESPN : ‘Simmons hasn’t played since last June 20, when he was with the Sixers, and is now dealing with at least his fourth back injury in the past two years. ESPN reported Wednesday the current problem is an irritation of the L4 disk of the lower spine.’

  • @brockjensen2473
    @brockjensen2473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is this related to Luka not being a huge trainer or I guess not working out often (especially in the off season) or would it have decreased the chances of this happening if he did more conditioning and training in the off season and throughout the nba season?
    Sorry idk how to exactly phrase this but basically what im asking is, players that train hard and take care of their body (especially in the off season) obviously have less of a chance of being injured because they build up the muscle and tolerance. Is this one of those things? For example, throughout LeBrons career he was basically Ironman RARELY getting injuries and when he got them he was back very quickly (almost always) because we know how much lebron conditions himself; so is this type of injury something that would be less likely to happen to someone like lebron or was this injury pretty much unavoidable and unrelated to luka not taking care of his body the way he should?
    I love Luka as much as I’m sure all of us doing but this has been my one knock on him. He doesn’t train in the off season nearly enough nor does he during the season and he is still (at worst) the 5th best player in the league. It concerns me to see him getting injured especially when it may have been avoidable if he took care of his body better. Is this the case?
    I want you to imagine luka after training😂 if he’s doing this coming into the season out of shape, the league don’t want to see a conditioned Luka💀💀

      @rosenvasilev4219 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly but he had a busy schedule meaning NBA season 2021 ,OG Qualifications then OG and 1 month rest and then again 2022 season. Add to that he was overweight first half of the season and picture gets more clear.They also extensively use him, I just do not think this playstyle will result in Chip. They need another star player to take off the load . And he is 22. They need to think of the future. With time, he needs to be better condition and roster changed. Even when Luka was winning with Slovenia he had prime Dragic and Randolph who were beasts those years and were on a tear. In Real, he had bunch of Euro hall-of-famers and Chip pedigree. What he has in Mavs - Maxi Kleber, Powel, Brunson...... Best they can ever get is Conference finals with lots of luck.

    The video u are showing is not when the injury initially occurred and this is really just the over stretching of the left leg that promotes the injury to being a thing Luka has to deal with. U should be going back a few plays to see if there might have been something else that happened right?

    Interesting why Luka thought it was necessary to take such a long or open stance when pushing off. There’s like what, 3-4ft between his feet positioning? Idk, just seems like a freak accident due to an even weirder pushoff stance.

  • @ouyang8238

    Sucks that Luka has to deal with this. But is this potentially caused by his weight throughout the season? We know that this year was especially tough for Luka because of the Olympics during the previous summer and his weight during the short offseason. Throughout the past few seasons, we've seen Luka put on weight (probably not all muscle) because of his diet (or lack of diet). For his frame and play style, does this contribute to this injury? Since he had little time to rest his body during the offseason and has a heavy offensive load with the Mavericks, I think it's time to ask whether or not Luka needs to change some things about his routine to maintain a healthier body. I know that Lebron is a bad example since he is basically a walking tank, but he spends a lot of money and attention on his body, hence his longevity. Does Doncic maybe need to adopt a similar routine and mindset since he isn't as physically gifted as Lebron?

  • @lblake11

    The Mavs coaching staff is spineless for letting Luka play on the last game of the season with a clinched playoff spot. There comes a time though when coaching and management need to take precedence over a superstar's feelings. Luka is a young and determined player so he is always going to want to play. The rest of the playoff teams rested their superstars, except for the Mavs. Pretty sure the injury is bad, but they'll probably let him play through it. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worse (a la K.D. vs the Raptors in 2019). Utah's chances of advancing increased exponentially.
