Great video. I eliminated my steering slop (had alot) by replacing the steering shaft( rag joint was fine but had play in one of the ujoints. That was detected by removing the shaft. Very hard to see that play in the u joint when on the car. Then I used MM Aluminum rack bushing! No slop at all now. I found that the rubber and poly bushings were to soft. Matt definitely try the mm aluminum rack bushings!!!!
plus 1 for spacers, yea its not a perfect solution but iflush firtment with fender makes your ride look better. ezspecially for the rear. 1.5" fits perfect for stock width for rear.
I’ve tried everything to fix my steering slop, I replaced the steering column (car was stolen from the last owner so ignition was damaged) steering shaft, steering rack and pinion, tie rods, control arms and ball joints, (I also had lowering springs) and nothing fixed the slop, it was certainly better with all those new parts but just that little bit was bothering me every time I drove it, I watched this, tried to see if I had the same slack you did in the video, and sure enough I had play coming from those bushings… I originally blew off the question of whether they could be the issue because they were brand new. But I realize that yes they were new but they were really soft, just ordered those same bushings off American muscle and I will for sure give them a shot. And I deeply thank you for this video because without this I was just about ready to accept it and just have something to hate about the car forever. Also if there’s any other tips you have to make steering as responsive as possible I’d love to hear it! I have pretty much the same wheels you just put on yours, there 17-9in rims and I’ve had it aligned at 3 different shops for things that happened along my build. Thanks again man, your still helping 10 years later!!!
This is an amazing quality video, very glad it popped up on my feed. I am getting ready to replace both my steering shaft and the bushings on the rack and most video's I've seen do not give such good camera angles. Kudos sir!

I've used wheel spacers to upgrade to larger tires and wheels. Hypertech programmer to adjust the speedometer. Thanks for sharing your video.

the steering shafts are notorious for going bad
Definitely! If you don’t see any play in the rubber rag joint. You may have play in one of the u joints of the shaft!

Dude if you want even tighter steering get the maximum motorsports aluminum rack bushings! You can thank me later
