  • FA-off tutorial. Use FA-off and boost to flip your ship over and fly backwards at max speed. Use for defensive stance, particularly to defend against more maneuverable opponents.or to shoot down missiles.
    For a flip that keeps your original course of travel more accurately, you can use the vertical thrusters to counter the change in direction caused by the duration of the boost.
    Joysticks in video: Thrustmaster T16000M (left), Defender Cobra M5 (right).
    Thanks to AlphaOneSyndrome for reminding me to make the triangles have a clearly indicated direction.

    Elite really needs a direction vector indicator.

      That's what the dust particles are for though.

      They are almost entirely useless. Why all this beating around the bush just suck it in and put it in, its not like its rare, unseen, complicated or difficult to implement. I just don't understand why not and it makes me mad!

      haknslash I think perhaps you could have a vector indicator that looked a bit like those lanes of moving vertical lines you get in supercruise on the left and right. Some HUD feature within your field of view that take on the same role as the 'dust'. Something that could be toggled in the options as an alternative to the dust.

      Tommyttk As long as it's an option I'm fine if they add it :D.
      We used to have a nice little wiggle man on the dash that sort of could be used to indicate which vector you were thrusting but they took him out during beta :(

      Looking at older videos of ED, the dust particles used to be a bit denser and were a bit more useful in that regard. To me it also made flying seem a bit more graceful too.

    Pro tip, boosting and immediately deploying landing gear will give you the lateral and rotational thrust boost, without making you go past your max speed. Useful for doing 180's in huge ships without overshooting, Or for rapidly turning a joust into a chase.

    Only two minutes after watching this video, a pirate interdicted me and I pulled the boost flip. It worked and the poor AI pirate shat his pants. Great guide

    I have been searching all over for a way to do this, and finally stumbled on this video by accident, thanks!

    Guess i found one, thank you

    How is the Cobra doing? Still going strong? Also, is it the Rev B version you have?

    I'm having some issues with this maneuver. Everytime I boost with FA off and start turning in a direction, once I stabalize, my ship reduces speed, and starts thrusting in the direction I'm facing, this is with FA off. What am I doing wrong?

    • @Tommyttk
      @Tommyttk  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      deathscreton sounds like your forward thrust is still engaged. If you boost and FA off, stop any thrust input at all and you should keep sailing off in one direction.

    Is this the same trick those NPCs in anacondas do to always face you no matter what? Whether or not, this is very useful - thank you.

    I expected (and hoped) the flip to be a lot faster...why is it so slow? Does this game have fighters with gyro-based maneuvering or is it all thrusters? Still, even for thrust-based systems, unless you're in a big clunky boat, seems like it'd be a lot quicker. I just got VR set up and waiting for my hotas...was hoping to learn some Viper MK-II from Battlestar Galactica maneuvers in small, nimble fighters :D

    I wish you could infinitely gain speed with FA on by boosting forever

      FA off I mean

      Physics wouldn't allow this, and computers don't like calculating or especially dividing by infinity.

      +ransom bot Well, physics of the real world would allow it untill you start getting closer to the speed of light.

      @@Fabelaz I’m 5 years late but no. You still have particles in space which implies fluid friction which imposes a speed limit.

    • @Fabelaz
      @Fabelaz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michascigala4045 I suppose? though the speed limit will still be much higher than whatever the game presents.
