    I know that this video is old af, but here’s what I do (and did) to escape pirates and commanders in wings.
    I will actually aim for the nearest close planet and _unlock_ my target, keeping speed and momentum, and I’ll use the gravity well of the celestial body as a sort of ramped turn on a highway. If done precisely (and this is not easy feat mind you), then you’ll slow down just enough to make a sharp turn, all the while slowing yourself enough to mass lock the station/planet you’re trying to land on.
    The enemy pirate will either fling by you, missing the goldielocks zone that the planet’s gravity well has created, slow down and match your speed, but never become faster than you in time to catch you, or they’ll crash into the planet!
    I did this against a wing of 3 Commanders, two of them crashing into 2 separate planets 😂

    Wow, coming late to the party, but that is the BEST guide or demo on system navigation/supercruise I have ever seen. All in less than 5 minutes! Bloody nicely done!

      +Tommyttk yes, great diagrams - which graphics proggie were you using?
      Also, agreed with others re simplified(?!) instructions to perform your #HelixOfDeath Counter-Interdiction Manoeuver, please, if not a video on it? :D

    This doubles as both a game tutorial, and a basic astronomy lesson!
    It's fascinating how science DOES have actual input. I just read the story of someone setting a new record from Sol to Colonia and it's quite fascinating.

    Can you do a video strictly on the Helix of Death maneuver as it's quite hard to see what you're doing in the vid. Thx!

      yeah I just grabbed the game a few days ago and started playing. The approach to stations and USSs really annoys me. You either have to either slow way down way before you get there, or it speeds up even when you have your thrusters bottomed out and you have to swing back around a time or two. Also I have discovered that space stations and I don't get along very well. I swear those things are death traps.

    Great video, although I can't help but imagine the pilot in the ship sitting upright pompously in a age-of-sail British captain's uniform with one hand on the stick and the other sipping an earl-gray tea from delicate white china with pinkie raised.

    Superb video! Great to see how real physics affects the best flight path. Only thing I didn't quite follow was the actual helix you employ, but I guess that is a matter of flying skill and plenty of practice! Thanks again. :)

    Thanks man !!! I am a newbi to the game making my money through Boom Deliveries and just yesterday I got interdicted and slaughtered by a far better ship... DIdn't have a chance in hell which surprised me as I have once had an epic fight (with potentially a noobi pilot (great fun I must add)
    But this tutorial was very educational thank you.

    I have been using the helical approach and surprisingly it has help a bit when avoiding NPC pirates. However, players who know what they are doing do not seem to be effected by the helical roll. The other thing that is not taken into consideration is the distance of your target location to its parent astral body... When the parent astral body is a considerable distance from the target destination the helical maneuver simply does not work as using the gravity well of the astral body slows your velocity down to a crawl, thus making you an easy target. I do feel like there are ways to avoid interdiction, but feel like a one hat fits all approach is not effective enough in most circumstances unfortunately. I also feel like this technique can be employed in SOME of this situations but others are needed to decrease the odds of player to player interdiction.

  • @Traumglanz

    Alignment to station entrance is missing in this video. Station entrances face in general to the stellar object they are orbiting, so you want to come from the planet side towards the station right before you drop out of super cruise.

    • @D3nchanter
      @D3nchanter 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      it isn't strictly necessary except for certain situations (low O2, pirates, wanted status, smuggling, etc.). even if you are wanted or there are pirates those stations do have a no fire zone close to them usually.

    • @agnichatian
      @agnichatian 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Traumglanz I always try to do this, as it saves time from going around the station.

  • @holdemnutz
    @holdemnutz 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I will try this. What I have been doing is by playing which scenario it gives me, If I must come strong at it, I'll do max speed to overshoot, but instead of overshooting, pull out before I reach destination. This will give me time to turn out before hand and put me close to the destination. It may have you vulnerable for a few seconds but is a quick solution before learning your method which is awesome!

  • @mjw665
    @mjw665 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I do something similar. I go full speed toward the station and intentionally over shoot it and loop back ending up at less than 5mkm. However it looks like you method is better than mine.

    There is an amazing trick using Supercruise Assist set to manual in the internal panel. You engage Supercruise Assist, throttle up to 100% and press a key to drop it to exactly 75% the moment 0:05 displays or slightly before. This can be connected with the helix manoeuvre.

  • @AthAthanasius
    @AthAthanasius 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is there any need to actual spiral in? I'm thinking that the time saving is more to do with using a close pass to the planet for final braking. Have you tried using approximately the same angular offset as for a spiral, but flying a straight line, and then the planet braking at the end ? (Yes, I know that NOT spiralling means not having the slight Interdiction dodging effect.)

    Could you please make another video with another examples of this manoeuvre?

  • @Jognt

    What I usually do is travel at Full Throttle followed by a reduction to 75% Throttle when I reach 0:07* ETA and then followed by going back to 100% throttle when the distance to the station drops below 7MM. This will usually get me "Safe to Disengage" just in time.
    Take note that if you travel past the planet your station orbits around that you will need to play with throttle to keep the ETA time at 0:07 until you reach 7MM distance.
    *: just before it goes from 0:07 to 0:06
    So:
    - 100% Throttle;
    - 75% Throttle at ETA== 0.07;
    - 100% Throttle at Distance

    Last time I tried to do this, I ended up dropping out inside the wall of the station. I got godly lucky and managed to glitch through the walls and escape with 34% of my hull left...

  • @JohnRWMarchant
    @JohnRWMarchant 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Or they could just fix Supercruise assist. 1000 years from now we can't work out the ideal parabolic approach to the station around a planet, something we can do even now.

  • @EmoDuck13
    @EmoDuck13 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I thought your position relative to the ecliptic upon arriving in-system would depend on the angle to the system from which you came. A bit disappointing if that's not the case.

    • @Tommyttk
      @Tommyttk  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you might be right. but when you're that close to the star we can say you're 'on the ecliptic' in any case as you're no more than a few solar radii away from it. Which is nothing in comparison to the scale of the entire system.
