What a thoroughly nice guy, love the boat its got everything you need for a day off shore. with the costs he mentioned it makes owning and running a small boat more affordable than most of us think. Nice one Nick.
Great vid. Just goes to show you don't have to be a millionaire to be a boater. The yearly costs of running a boat, you'll never get back financially, but the memories are priceless, especially with a family. This guy probably spends, weekly, about £40 all in to run this boat for him and family to have some real bonding time together. As he said, two weeks in Spain for the same money for his family, or all year round happy days out together. Absolute no brainer. A BIG THUMBS UP FROM ME.
Lovely stuff Nick. For someone like me who would love to own a boat and get on the water this is very encouraging. Thanks. A series on these kind of owners would be great.
@@richadambudgen7520 Agreed. As someone who lives in Manchester and wants to get to sea this is a large incentive to look more closely at the whole process.
I'm genuinely surprised at how low the cost is to buy and run a boat like that. It looks great and clearly provides a lot of entertainment to the family.
It makes a nice change to look at this end of the market and perhaps you can do a few more like this with boats that cost even less including the pitfalls of buying a pig in a poke. My only experience in boating was way back at the beginning of the 1960's A chap I worked for owned a small albatross. He didn't use it but I would go out in the boat with his son who was the same age as myself, we were both teenagers. The boat was light enough to manually launch and recover it manually off the beach at Blackpool's north shore. Like many other sports I'd love to have a go but now in my mid 70's it's physically impossible but keep these video's coming I just love them.
I've been watching the channel for a few months now , this has to be the best video so far I've watched. A boat that I could afford to run and buy , and for the money that's what I call a good investment
Couldn’t click on this video fast enough! Great insight from an honest owner. Still love the luxury boat tours but this was definitely the most relatable video of yours I’ve watched. More of these please Nick !
Speaking as a complete novice i was very pleasantly surprised by the reasonably low yearly running costs of a boat like that. Fab insight again Nick keep up the good work.
you can tell how much Pete loves his boat with all the love, care and attention he puts into it, some folk would say his boat is a tender, for Pete it's a day tripper where he can go out on the sea with family and friends ... with maximum fun as possible for the best bang for bucks possible ... if it was mine i would be using it for trips to the isle of Arran opposite my home town .... thanks for sharing Nick
Peter and his family are living the dream and creating many, many memories which are priceless. Excellent video and away the family go for another fun day out in the bay......
Pete's a nice chap eh! He's done well weighing up all the requirements though - and he's right of course. Add up all those days out and you'll soon see value rather than going away for a couple of weeks. Great video - I thoroughly enjoyed that. Cheers Nick.
Hi Nick and Pete. A smashing boat, economical, fast, comfortable and affordable. Great information of running a boat. Great walkthrough video and test. Thanks 😊
Less flashy but far more useful than your other vids. Less dreaming and more note taking is what I'm getting at. Greetings from Vancouver Island in Canada
That's a very smart looking boat and an excellent day & evening fun boat. He's so right in mooring at a not so big and very much less expensive marina. He clearly loves his boat!
What a fantastic boat for the money. Ideal for the family days out that they have, the children don’t know how lucky they are. Thanks to Nick and the owner for being so honest with the running costs.
This is GREAT! We too have a late 90's boat that we have had from new. It's a 23' Crownline and we love it and have taken meticulous care of her. We are on a small lake in the north Georgia mountains. It's nice to see a similar boat on your channel. We wouldn't trade her for ZOZO. Well...maybe. Thanks Nick and keep up the great work!
Possibly the most valuable video on the whole aquaholic channel as this shows the reality of how inexpensive boating can be. So many people see boating as a sunseeker, but most of us started our experience of boating on boats like this. The sound of the inboard bubbling, the quicksilver throttle, all bought back memories of me starting my experience of boating with my parents on a boat exactly this size. Also loving.how meet the owner includes a boat trip and do you know what…I’d rather see a video of cracking small boat, owner and spin, than a snooty couple on a boat 4 times the size who don’t use the boat much and just want to give it the big one 🙂 great work guys
What a great demonstration of how boating is for everyone! Our first boat was a 2004 Bayliner 285 which was so versatile and we loved. Thanks for a great video Nick!
Fantastic feature Nick. Would be good to include what upgrades owners have done or are planning to get. Gives us all ideas to plan for our own boating. It seems to me, boating is going to get more popular, and people are holding on to their boats for longer, or upgrading. Currently looking at a gas BBQ for mine as I have gas onboard, which I think will 'add' to the experience. The floating pontoon for swimming, great idea and doesn't take up a lot of space! Note to self - must get one!!!🤣 Pete has swapped the life of one big summer holiday for many many short holidays a year! Combine this with the ability to trail it and add that to holiday on the French coast or east into the European waterways......worlds your oyster! Fantastic And as one commentator said below - a pod of dolphins at sunrise- Pete couldn't buy that experience for his family - but guaranteed - none of the family will ever forget it. What we all love about boating - an adventure every time with untold unexpected memories to be discovered.
There's a lot of boat snobbery out there so it's nice to see a family just having a great time out on the water for a sensible budget. My old boss tried to impress my wife once with his 55' yacht and he considered my 17' pocket cruiser a bit of a laugh. She looked him in the eye and said " if your boat was sinking I bet you would love to come of ours", to which he couldn't argue. What's really nice is to see in this video is everyone's wearing life jackets, so many don't.
What a plonker of a man? You were his junior at work. He earned no doubt much more than you, and had earned for longer. Instead of encouraging you into the fun of boating he mocked your smaller, different purpose boat?
What a nive video, what a nice and open owner, what a fantastic boat in its size and class. I think 10 adults (4+2+4) can have a great day out in this boat. Full credit to the owners for the care and upkeep
Fabulous Interview with a really nice down to earth person and seeing him and his delightful family off for a fun day was the icing on the cake. awesome.
Amazing. Wish my Sunseeker Hawk 27 cost only £2k per year - but you are right - £2k, £20k or £200k per annum and we all have the same laughs and and gr8 experiences. Something that ties the boating community together I think - we are all on the water and all (well most anyway) appreciate that we are all one boating family.
Great Video and Owner! Thank you Nick for featuring this size of a boat! We have 2012 Yamaha SX 190 and can really relate to this owners love of boating!! Love the family time on our boat!!
Absolutely wonderful Nick , I was just thinking about the fact we run two cars so one is always needing fuel which certainly for the bigger car can be £60 pounds plus not mention service costs . So just on that basis alone it puts it very much into perspective, and we all know children can be easily entertained at a young age so what’s not to like . Fun for all the family . Best wishes and kind regards as always 😃👍👍👍
New to this site and what a super man Nick is! I have watched videos of his from open runabouts to 17 million pound super yachts, Never a single patronising word from him. Great Video Nick - love seeing the big boats but it's also great to see the more affordable end of boating - and done in an informed and responsible way
Brilliant video thanks Nick. I'm genuinely surprised at how affordable this family's boat is...and his kids are so lucky to have those experiences too.
Very nice expose on how to boat on the cheap Nick. I have owned many boats in this range with a 24 foot Four Winns bow rider being the most expensive. Having lived on the sixth largest lake in the US my entire life, boating has made lots of wonderful memories.
Nice one Nick as we own the exact same boat, ours is a 97 in red with a 2013 4.3 Mercruiser mpi. We’re based in Portsmouth so can totally agree with the amount of enjoyment we have cruising about the Solent and Iow.

Hello Nick, thank you for the upload. I like the bow rider very much, there quick and so much fun. Also much cheaper than Alton Towers, happy days. Take care.
Great video. I did a similar thing on the non-tidal Thames. Bought a 2000 Sea Ray 180 and love it, lots more seats and space than my old boat yet a whole load cheaper than all the fancy new river boats I can’t afford. You can boat on a ‘budget’.

Really enjoyed this Nick. Lovely boat and a really interesting owner, who came across really well( seemed ex serviceman type). The cost of running was a nice suprise and gives me hope i can get out on the water with my family next season.
Well impressed all that for 2k a year 😮 amazing, I'm always looking at boats that are well out of my price range but this is great thanks for the vid 👍
I love this level of boating. Much for affordable for us regular folks. The only thing missing especially with kids is some form of head unless I missed that part, as I can't imagine going 11 hours without needing something.
Great video. I'm just about to sell my first boat, very similar to this, a 1993 Sea Ray 200 OV. Owned it since 2018, paid £6000 for it. It's been rock solid. We've had such an amazing time with it here in Guernsey, poppin over to Herm and Sark. Perfect little boat. So easy to take out. Now though, on to a bigger boat! Thanks Aquaholic.
What a great way for a family to spend time together! I love watching your vids & this is one of my favourites, it shows that boating can be affordable as well as fun. Got to love “meet the owner” features - more please, you must have plenty of “fans” with boats wanting to showpiece their floating pieces of paradise. Look forward to see what’s uploaded next to Aquaholic 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Superb video Nick, and just shows that the majority of us can do this as well. 👍 I have to admit, that before I found this channel (quite some time ago now) I was one of those that thought, only the well off could afford to go boating, (It's Not Often I'm Right, But I Was Definitely Wrong Again!) which this channel has confirmed numerous times over the years, is definitely not the case. 👍😀🚤🛥⛵
Great to see this meet the owner. I was only thinking yesterday that It would be great to see a meet the owner on a similar boat to ours (ours being an 18ft 2002 larson bowrider) we brought it for 10k last year and keep it on the trailer on our drive in Oxfordshire and gets used between the themes and south coast. Servicing, insurance, river licence and other general maintenance bits costs us no more than a £1000 a year. Having just completed my PB2 in poole last week we are really looking forward to having our first full session this year. Our first costal adventure will be from poole in April at rockley park and weather allowing will be going up the coast and over to the Isles of white for some exploring. Also looking foward to using my Savvy Navvy subscription on the tablet. 👍
Great video Nick, as much as I love watching reviews of the more expensive boats, this gives me hope to pursue my dream one day. Keep up the good work.
If you don't live near a coastline, IMO a boat needs a cabin, however compromised. Space for a chemical toilet, a gas-cooker and 7 flat feet to roll out a sleeping bag;)
Great video, lovely boat and the ethos of what boating is about. Enjoying time with family and friends on board is just the best. Thanks for sharing your story Pete. Thanks for the video Nick, and thanks to awesome Sea Start a great service that all boaters should be signed up for. (UK) 👍
An excellent video, great little boat and an honest and engaging owner. I’d buy something similar tomorrow given the chance, however, living 2 hours from the coast is a definite impediment. Will stick to sailing dinghies for now and will keep following your excellent channel.
He is bang on about the fact it is relatively cheaper the more you use it. Same for me and my campervan. Yes it cost a few quid to buy but my family loves it and we use it so so often the cost really seems irrelevant.
A fine craft purpose purchased at a fair price. But what price FUN? About 150 per month for a 12 month average. Granted there are some months you are paying for a boat you can't use, but even if the cost was averaged over usable times, it is still only 200 a month. An average family can easily fritter away that much and still not have a boat. With a modicum of monetary care - look what you can have. Time and money well spent - and the "kids" are learning about boats, nature, even maintenance and budgeting - more fun than school. Well done Pete and Family and Nick for the video.
Brilliant video, I think it’s very hard to keep the annual costs to 2K. Not too many opportunities to get a mooring for £600 a year. You really have to know your stuff to manage that tighter budget. 👍👍👍
Don't know if these boats are all made off a pattern and sold under several different manufacturers but this looks like a near identical (albeit a lot tidier) version on my new Maxum boat. Can't wait to get out on the water! This has only made me more excited!!!
Every manufacturer has their own spec. It’s like how every phone looks about the same, the design is tried and true and it’s what the customer comes to expect from the product. Just like how cars are 4 wheels and a seat for the most part
A boat like this is the quintessential cottager boat where I am in Ontario. Great for protected waters, fast, can tow tubes, take enough people. And for that reason they are ubiquitous around here.
Nice chap….. nice boat 🙂 Those V6 engines, Mercruiser or Penta are a great compromise. Plenty of shove, lovely smooth note, much nicer than a four but a lot less thirsty than the V8’s. Also, with their American van origin, simple, robust and long lasting… 🙂
Not to disagree but are they really a lot less thirsty than a v8? My experience is the hull shape and boat weight is what influences the consumption almost entirely, and number of cylinders/engine size is almost irrelevant at planing speeds. But if you have any reasonably measured data that says differently, I would happily listen.
Was waiting for this video. Myself and my brother have just bought our first boat and it is also a Mariah. Good to see another one in the uk 😀. Our interior is in slightly worse condition! Very interesting to watch.
There's definitely a lack of small boat reviews, would love to see you tap into that market Nick with a dedicated series.

Even Brits know you have to have an American light beer when you are grilling burgers. Love to see it cheers 🍻
Very nice boat. Pure, simple and great fun !!
Hi Nick! It will be cool if you do a video like :"what can you get for 100.000" "what can you get for 50.000" Your personnal choice etc... 😘
the rear of that boat looks amazing
Brilliant video, I think it’s very hard to keep the annual costs to 2K. Not too many opportunities to get a mooring for £600 a year. You really have to know your stuff to manage that tighter budget. 👍👍👍
Great film nick with another lovely guy thanks nick and Pete 👍atb
Glad you enjoyed it
Great little boat and looks like it's loads of fun
Great video, superb boat and what a brilliant way to go boating. 🤩
It really is!
Fantastic Nick. Great content again.
They seem a very grounded family, who are getting fantastic value from their investment.
Bravo!
Excellent video Nick. 😀👍🍀🛥🚤⛵
A boat like this is the quintessential cottager boat where I am in Ontario. Great for protected waters, fast, can tow tubes, take enough people. And for that reason they are ubiquitous around here.
I really like this type of boat. Would definitely have one if the weather in Northern Europe was a bit sunnier.
Nice chap….. nice boat 🙂
Those V6 engines, Mercruiser or Penta are a great compromise. Plenty of shove, lovely smooth note, much nicer than a four but a lot less thirsty than the V8’s. Also, with their American van origin, simple, robust and long lasting… 🙂
Cheers some interesting extra details.
This directly relates to my boating experience, love it .
brilliant video + very good looking boat👌🏻
Not too dissimilar to my boating, fun on a budget. Take it easy on Windermere or trailer to Conwy or Porthmadog for some sea based fun.
nice to see a boat in my price range excellent thanks to all
Sunday evening, Aquaholic and a G&T what’s not to like! Thanks Nick for another fab video.... 👍🏼🚤
My pleasure!
Thanks for that one Nick, that's more my price range, so I don't need to win the lottery, a great starter boat and only £6k👍
Was waiting for this video. Myself and my brother have just bought our first boat and it is also a Mariah. Good to see another one in the uk 😀. Our interior is in slightly worse condition! Very interesting to watch.
Hope you enjoy it!
The U.K. has hundreds and hundreds of Mariah boats 😂
@@Qbhoy79 Thank you for that information
