Even if you wear a hat, chances are that the angle of the sun will still be a factor for the lower half of your face - which would mean your lips are more exposed than you might realize. I make a point of wearing lip sun protection whenever I am outside recreating.
One of my favorite lip protection products is #sunbum ’s Signature 30 Sunscreen Lip Balm'. It’s easy to apply and stays on for a reasonable amount of time before needing to reapply. With 8% Zinc Oxide as the active ingredient providing the SPF 30 rating, it’s also broad spectrum, blocking both UVA & UVB rays. This lip balm has a neutral taste (inevitably you end up tasting the lip balm even if you’re trying not to) which I appreciate compared to other brands I’ve tried which had a chemical taste.
Another favorite lip protection product is ‪@badgerbalm‬ Clear Zinc, which comes in a metal tin. It’s made with 22.5% Zinc Oxide as the active ingredient, is unscented, reef friendly, SPF 40, 98% organic ingredients, and water resistant for 80 min. Badger has a range of mineral sunscreen products which include: sun sticks and sun creams along with 50 SPF Clear Zinc tin for even higher sun protection.
Keep in mind that mineral-based sunscreens using Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide appear to be safer for people who are concerned about long-term exposure to chemical ingredients.
