    You just saved me a ton of time and effort. All reviews on YT and Amazon said mineral sunscreens have white cast, and not fit for brown and black people. This was sooo simple!

    makes a lot of sense! plus I feel like doing it in layers like this will ensure I'm covering ALL the areas of my face evenly which is particularly important with sunscreen :)

      100% correct! LabMuffin Beauty Science has a blog post or Instagram post on that. That’s also why we need so much-because your skin isn’t one smooth layer, so the sunscreen has so go over the bumps of your skin and still coat it enough

    I seperate mineral sunscreen into 2 part. Apply 1 part into 5 dot on your face. Then wait maybe 15 to 30 seconds to apply another part. Yes it work for me. It's mate and no white cast.

    I got to a point where I had to disregard most reviews from dark skinned youtubers when it came to mineral sunscreen and try it out for myself.
    A 1/4 teaspoon might take me 5 minutes to apply but it is what it is.

      It's so frustrating and clearly click bait. If you really give something a proper try and it doesn't work, that's fine, but I wish these people would take a beat and ask themselves if that's really how it's meant to be applied.

    A few months ago I impulsively bought a mineral sunscreen without searching anything about it beforehand. I never bought into the whole "slap 2 fingers worth of sunscreen on your face", so I used my newly bought sunscreen just like you described in your video: apply a tiny amount, massage it in and repeat doung this until the entire face is sufficiently covered. Let me tell you one thing: I've used BB creams less pigmented than this sunscreen. It did not matter how much or little I applied, a permanent white cast just sat on top of my face. I had to use foundation to cover that baby up 😢. The point is, my fellow readers, some sunscreen are just going to leave a white cast no matter what you do. If the method described here does not work, it's not you, it's the formula.

    This makes so much more sense! Is there a difference in chemical or mineral sunscreen application? Chemical I was taught to let it sink in, mineral seems more about rubbing it in like crazy

    • @DanaRipperton
      @DanaRipperton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the most part, chemical sunscreens can be applied a bit more liberally, but if you find one that has more of a cast, apply the same way as I showed. And yep, people do recommend waiting 15 mins to let it sink in. Yeah, if you find yourself rubbing too much it’s just annoying but that’s where the small, thin layers technique really helps 🙂

  • @k.hebert
    @k.hebert 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I was always told the 2 finger method applied to face and neck (like one for your face and one for your neck... then I always add one more for my chest.) i still apply it in layers to keep the white cast down to a minimum.... buuuuuttttt... have I been doing it wrong this whole time?! 😱 I typically only use mineral because I have super sensitive skin, but like.... was I suppose to be using both fingers JUST FOR MY FACE?!?!

    • @DanaRipperton
      @DanaRipperton  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There’s some debate that it’s 1/4 tsp for your face and neck. I always overestimate on my face bc I get bad hyperpigmentation/melasma. You’re right though…it’s A LOT!!

  • @nancygage7679
    @nancygage7679 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    How do I want to look to the world... like the first option when it's just glopped on or the 2nd when it's smoothed on in layers? Hmm? Seems like a no-brainer. I'm only going to be influenced by someone doing it properly.

    Great video! I like Native sunscreen because it’s clean and has a high zinc content for a good price, however, I find it feels a little sticky. Does applying it this way reduce the stickiness? And have you tried it under makeup?

    • @celestema2506
      @celestema2506 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Coola has a mineral sunscreen SPF 50 that's water resistant up to 80min. I believe it's truly water resistant because it's actually hard to wash off in the shower. I'd love to see a review on the product. The bottle I just got is expiring in 2 months. I believe it's an old formula bottle as the ingredient list is different from what the website says. It has a somewhat bad white cast, but honestly for a non tinted mineral SPF 50, it's the best I've used. I'm curious if the new formula performs better.

      @@DanaRipperton I think that's the issue. I acually don't wear anything in the morning. But I have dry skin so I usually use something alittle heavy for my night routine and I think it's the left overs in the morning that is making it not work. I can't figure out what to do cause I can't wash my face in the morning becuase in to dry. Your method absolutely works better but It still happens.

    • @DanaRipperton

    Please tell me what moisturizer to use so that my mineral sunscreens aren’t shiny and tacky even an hour after I apply them. I have waited a half hour or more after using moisture to apply my sunscreen but it’s still the same. I have normal skin. I know it’s the moisturizer because I experimented with it on my arm and it wasn’t shiny or sticky after.
