  • these nifty little aluminum stud mounted led's are very nice for lots of car and truck lighting applications the only disappointing part is that all the sellers that i have encountered are advertising these as having high power led sellers claim between 3 and 10 watts but fact is they are all 1 watt led's give to take some mili-watts the typical current is 0.1 amps and 12 volts 0.12 amps at 14 volts so slightly brighter when the engine is running, but dont despair they to deliver a lot of light and they are very tough however I am not sure how everyone else feels but i sick and tired of all the lies and deception that surrounds the true power outputs of led products, so for now on whenever i encounter an led product i'm going to post its dirty laundry up on the internet for everyone to see...............

This is the only vid I've found that goes straight to the info/specs on these lights. Thank you very much!

Thanx for the dirty laundry. Modern ones are claiming 9 watts. That is 750 milliamps of current at 12 volts for each LED. That is insane.

Thank you for this quick video, I knew that the wattage claims were false but I needed proof.
Now when I shop for them I'll disregard the power claims and pick up a set of the smaller 18mm.

Can you run all of them in a continuous line off the battery and a switch or do you need any adaptors to drop the voltage, etc?

I was always sceptical about 9W leds. thanks for saying the truth.
It is very similar with sound system wattage. they claim 50, 100 or 200 W, but the true power is most probably 10 x less. 50% of consumed electricity becomes sound, and these boxes do not consume much electricity at all. All these sellers have to lie, because otherwise they could not sell. average users don't know how to check the power.

I bought some to put in as my plate light im planing on using four two to replace in regular bulb. so will that last on one set of outlet connectors. I feel like they might burn out since the wires are really thin, or would two be fine fron on plate light outlet

Thanks for the video!! I was wondering the same thing. I ordered a (9w)10pc on eBay, but they don’t look like 9w. 1w a pc looks more appropriate

Have you compare COB with SMD one?

    are they water proof?

well you cand put themnin series because they are swamped for 12 volts 3 chips and a resistor in one package eachnine pulls about 0.1 amps so you can string a lot if then in a single bus wire, i recommend running multi core wire like that use on irrigation to feed differnt colors or sections that can be switched separately also use or 1 or 2 wire cores to carry ground so you dint have to mess with making that connection when mounting the studs

ya I figured it was about time someone took one of these apart and aired the dirty laundry share this video around and it should result in a more honest product...

not wired in pairs just packaged that way with rubber bands wires are about 16 inches

What external AC to DC transformer would you recommend to power 3 of these 23mm LEDs?

Any 12v psu would work, you would need 0.3 A at 12v, so likely a power cube from an old router or something like that would work... Most of those device's gave there outout in the fine print on the case and almost everyone has an extra one in a box of junk sonewhere

    • @MrJBA79

Because I ordered 2 pairs. I'd like to drive one separately (for my 3D printer hot-end) on a standard 12v adapter. But I'd like to set the remaining 3 up with a stand and flexible arms to provide 3 point lighting. Won't that setup's PSU need to be 12v with a 3 watt output?

@@MrJBA79 they draw about 100 ma each so you need a psu that supplies. About .1 amps for each eagle eye if your unsure just use a higher rated supply most small 12 volt supplies are in the 6 to 12 watt range, eagle eyes have about a 1 watt current draw...

what i have heard is that these arent very waterproof. And that its a matter of when, and not if they will go out :/.

have had good luck so far, cheap to replace, my biggest complaint is the lenses pop out on a few of them but the leds keep working even after getting wet

I personally love these but, they are crap. Ive fitted them to my car and they last about 3 weeks before the lenses fall out or the water gets in the so called waterproof lights and corrodes the light chip.
All of the ones i bought were from ebay as i dont seem to be able to find a decent branded source.
Ive had the plain ones and the switchback type and trust me, if you want them to last longer than a month or so, dont bother because the build quality is trash for automotive use.
Unless you live in a desert, these wont last very long..

i dont understand the point of the middle grommit styling. they dont flush mount, the stick out a bit because of that extra grommit lip. what is that for exactly? i got mine today from ebay and love them but im confused as to why theyre not flush
