Excellent! You picked up on it pretty quick. As a hockey player, I’d say it’s important to learn to stop on both sides. This really applies to anything related to skating. Once you get one side down make a point to practice the other side before moving on to anything

    • @speterm_004
      @speterm_004 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Well I have this problem. I have learned the stop turning to the left, but I can't do it while turning to the right. But I also started to learn that thing when I place my skates in front of one another while turning, which I also only learnt to turn left. In fact simply turning to the right is also a bit of a problem for me. Can you suggest anything? Will this be a problem that I learnt something new while I couldn't do the hockey stop to the other side? Btw I don't want ot be a professional skater I just want to learn these skills so that I could do them anytime, but that I can only do these to one side bothers me a bit.

I think people neglect that he's forced to film himself (for TH-cam). Most people learning won't film themselves, so they won't have the luxury of reliving their mistakes. He learns faster partly *because* he films it. Of course, there are other reasons he's efficient.
TL;DR = film yourself learning, even if you won't share it with others

one tip for your future skating career, try to bend your knees a bit so you keep your center of gravity low for added stability and spread your feet apart a bit more when you stop because they are a little too close and that makes it easier for you too fall or catch an edge.

a couple things i can see your doing wrong that I've done but have gotten better on
    1) your skate laces are way to lose, i can see your ankles folding in and that how you ruin your skates
    2) your concentrating on the stop too much so you back foot is right on your front foot, you need about 10-13 inches of space between your skates
    3) your leaning to much forward so try to work on leaning back abit
other then that your pretty good at them, keep up the great work

Ava Boxwell I wouldn’t say they get made fun of, but younger kid skaters learning will see adults falling and getting back up which inspires them to not be afraid to fall. They’ll laugh for sure, but they remember when they were learning too. I’ve had nothing but support from people at the arena when I fell down, someone always came to check on me. I’m 31 now, many people including myself, grew up in a household that could not afford hockey equipment to participate in the sport. So we get into it at a later age when we have our own jobs and income to support that hobby.

@@chrisj403 not neccesarily its a training aid its meant to take away variables to allow you to work on each part before you bring them all together just look at swimming
you start by holding onto the side and practicing kicking and keeping yourself up
then you get that foam board thing and practice moving around the pool with just kicking
then comes the floatie belt and you work on your arm and leg movements getting them right
then the belt goes away and you try to do everything together and stay afloat
as long as your not being allowed to use it constantly and never being pushed to try a little harder its fine people learn things all the time with the help of training aids if what you said was true most kids and adults would still have stabilizers on there bikes

That's a fair point, but it's different for skating. To go fast, to turn, to stop, you need to shift your centre of mass. It's all about balance, and practice. But using a stability doesn't get you any practice with the core of skating. But it's fair to say that they can just use it until they're used to the basics.

I think your right, I live right next to a pond and I didn’t use a penguin but I used stacked milk crates (like an table almost) and I started with that when I was like 3 but I always depended on it and didn’t actually learn how to skate till I was like 6 or 7

Serious props for learning how to stop with your inside skate in 7 days!! That's the hardest part imo, using both feet to stop, and that inside foot can cause some painful falls. Well done

My advice on how to ice skate.
The problem for begginers is that your scared of falling, but if you learn how to fall without hurting yourself and how to get up you have no problem, also everyone falls its no big deal.
Next, a lot of people walk on the ice or take steps, now your probably going to fall since the front of many iceskates has a jagged stop, you want to glide on the ice as if your sliding.
Lastly, dont ever be to full of yourself and always hold your arms out.
Bonus; when you fall dont hold your hand out with your flat palm on the floor someone might run your hand over, put your in a fist position.
    Have a good day!!
