I went to a local rink with my daughter, and thought it would be a good opportunity for me to learn too. All I did was, watch this video just before going to the rink. I followed all the instructions in this video, nothing more, nothing less. Thanks for sharing such an easy-to-follow steps. After 2 sessions now, I started gliding. I just can't believe, I did it. Thank you so much Stacey, for making it so simple and so structured for a complete beginner. And now I am ready for your other video(Adult level 1-3)💖
I have been skating for decades. I love the sport and though it would be very difficult to learn to ice skate in 5 minutrs you have given in this video the really main points to learn the sport very vividly.
I am the queen of falling! But falling is an important skill - yes, skill - that anyone should develop. I'd add that relaxing the body is crucial. If you make falling correctly an ingrained habit, it'll save you from serious injuries for the rest of your life! I have poor balance so fell often when skating (ample opportunities to get it right) between ages 7-10. From my teens through 40s it was falling off horses or being thrown during training; even when pitching forward over necks and heads, my body automatically positioned itself sideways and muscles relaxed. At 60, I tripped on a loose tile in the kitchen but managed to come down on my side, hands in front. Unfortunately, I fractured my hip in that fall, only because in a battle between a hip bone and hardened clay tile, the tile is going to win 10 times out of 10 falls. :-) More recently, at 70 I had a stroke and spent 2 yrs learning to walk again. More falls but like the other 100s of times I've taken in my 75 years, my body automatically positioned itself for the safe landing I learned as a child. I escaped with nothing more than a scraped knee or elbow. My balance has always been poor and now I also contend with buckling knees. I relax instead of tensing up and so far come out of it just fine.

Really love to get to Boondal one day. They say the ice is softer than Acacia Ridge when you fall 😊😉
It's a great rink to skate at! It's definitely softer to skate on, but feels just as hard when you fall haha!
