  • jacksonville-f... 904-638-8338 Hi, I'm Chris.
Sandblasting 1955 Chevy Pickup Truck in Jacksonville Florida with Traditional Dry Blasting. We use a faster more economical sand on the parts not susceptible to warping, and a gentler less abrasive sand on the more fragile parts that are prone to warping.
That's why you'll see 2 pallets of sand on my blast trailer. One is more aggressive and faster therefore its less expensive, and the other pallet of abrasive sand is less aggressive and more gentle plus its slower, therefore its more expensive.
But hey, you have to protect the vehicles fragile parts from warping. Or you will be very miserable. Have you ever seen waves in a hood and roof? It makes car owners cry.
This is NOT Dustless blasting. I do dustless blasting also and its the same price. There is no cost difference between traditional dry blasting and wet dustless blasting.
But there is a huge difference in the clean up of the intricate parts in a automobile. Specifically in the holes, nooks, corners and cranny's. Wet Dustless blasting packs those holes with wet sand, MUD.
Then the mud drys in and wont come out. Ever hear a automobile rattle as dry chunks roll around in some unknown pocket somewhere? I bet you'd love that.
Dry traditional blasting allows us to use our air hose and blow ALL the loose dry sand out of the entire vehicle so you have no miserable clean up, and its ready for painting.
People that don't know any better, people that merely repeat what they have heard, will say warping metal is from the heat generated from sandblasting. That is so untrue. I'm predominantly a welding & fabrication shop. I'm a metal and heat master/expert you could say. after-hours-we...
If a piece of metal is 80 F degrees in the ambient air, when I blast it the temperature will elevate to 120 F. That is not enough heat to warp metal. Your car hood can hit 150 degrees F from just being in the hot sun. Does that warp your car? Actually by raising the temperature, by annealing, I can remove warping. But that has nothing to do with blasting.
What warps metal from blasting is the stretching of the metal like you spread pizza dough on a table. You work it, flatten it and it spreads and will wave/warp as it get wider. Let me hit your hood with 5 million pieces of sand too large, too heavy, and I'm working, flattening, and causing your hood to spread out and it will warp/wave up.
Now instead let me hit your hood with 35 million tiny small light grains of sand. The smaller it is the less energy it carry's and the less impact it has. The less impact the less the flattening stretching effect you'll get. The less flattening you get, no waves, no warping.
Although I do do dustless blasting, I am so tired of the Dustless brand being willing to lie to you and their customers just so they can sell machines that shoot wet/MUD sand that in some situations, is nearly impossible to clean out of automobiles.
Actually I'm just sick of people who are willing to lie so they can trick you out of your money, because they are too dumb to go earn it for real. Those are the people I'm prejudiced of. Unfortunately I cant identify them by looking at them.
Want to know more of the differences between wet dustless blasting and dry traditional blasting? after-hours-we...
Here is a forum of restoration professionals where dozens of them have been sadly exposed to warping problems from people using dustless blasters who don't know what they are doing .www.spiuserforu...
We will travel 250 miles in any direction from Jacksonville Florida to come do your blasting project. And I wont lie to you to get your money.
I hoped you liked this video. Have a great day. Thumbs up to you my viewer and my beloved customers.

    • @weldersandblaster

The fine sand is 45/60 grit and the coarser sand is 30/65. With the fine sand on warpage prone areas, shoot it at an angle, 45 degrees or less. Do not shoot it straight on as you want to produce a ricochet effect and not a direct stab.

I just read the post on spi site..I recommend any one interested in blasting...I learned on my own..been luck enough to get away with blasting doors and roofs without warping by increasing distance and lowering pressure and lots of luck...but I did warp up a few hoods from blasting inside, warped one with a vac blaster but used aluminum oxide... everything you stated makes sense to me..like the missing link LoL ..again thanks for sharing your knowledge

@@damiansgaragebuilds7663 I wish you luck. Where do you live? Are you stripping off paint? Profit is not determined only by how much you charge. Your machine's power and speed has tons to do with it. 90% of all sandblasters out there are only 25% as fast as mine. What I do in one hour takes them 4 hours. So they are paying 3 times more fuel and 3 times more abrasive cost than me.
The most common mistakes newbies make is small ID air hoses and pipes, and small ID blast hose. They cheap out on hose costs and choke their air supply which restricts their performance, which drives up their operating costs.
th-cam.com/video/evzq3m2qvPU/w-d-xo.html According to this video, you are unfortunately in this category. I started this way also. But then I took my small profits and invested 1,000's into larger hoses, larger pipes, and a special; high performance nozzle which I use on 99% of my blast jobs.
After my air hose upgrades, I spent $800 on a special nozzle. I tested before and after. Just the nozzle alone increased my performance by 25%. The savings in 2 months worth of abrasive costs, paid for the nozzle. That was 5 years ago, and I'm still using the high performance nozzle. Imagine the performance increased for 5 years and the savings.
My Sullair 375 used $47 an hour in fuel costs. My Atlas Copco 375 costs $17 per hour to operate. Their performance on both of them was equal. This video shows my old Airman 185. But this video th-cam.com/video/fKVxWBiH7R8/w-d-xo.html shows my Sullair 375 on the trailer.
When diesel skyrocketed to $5.89 a gallon, I began measuring fuel consumption per hour. Then I towed my backup Atlas Copco 375 to the job also and compared it to the Sullair on my trailer. After a week's worth of testing running both of them, I figured out their hourly fuel costs. I was amazed to learn the huge fuel consumption differences between them. But the performance is the same.
Then I spent 2 days taking the sullair 375 off my trailer, and mounting the Atlas Copco 375 on the trailer.
Here is some interesting pictures of the compressors being swapped. photos.app.goo.gl/2tZy2Af1pG93dqsL9
Where do you live? Maybe we can meet someday. Good luck in your new business. It's a tough climb getting to the top of high performance, low operating costs, and high profit margins.

$1,000. Some other guys that do wet dustless blasting bid $700 on that truck. But the owner was smart enough to not go with them. His logic was if they were willing to pack wet mud into all the nooks, crannies and corners, and leave it there, then they didn't care about his well-being so he didn't want them or their mud blasting. Not all, but many paint manufactures actually say in their data sheets, to not paint over top of hold tight 101. They want nothing between their paint and raw perfect steel. Their warranties are based on their paint is adhering straight to the steel and NOT atop of someone else's coating. I do dustless wet blasting, but only on painted concrete or brick.

The temperature drop causes condensation and takes humidity out of my air and turns it into liquid water. Bare naked metal is silver'ish color. If it's polished super smooth, it shines like chrome because it reflects light very easy. When its blasted, it looses its smoothness and becomes bumpy with peaks and valleys from the millions of impacts of the abrasive. Then it does not reflect light at all, and then it looks gray to the human eye. If you took the time to resmooth it and repolish it, then it could shine again like a silver mirror.
Smooth, shiny metal is very poor at holding paint. Blasted rough metal holds paint super well.
