- INSIDE EDITION's House of Shame series is putting more home repairmen to the test - this time to see if they give a fair deal for cleaning an air vent. After hiding cameras throughout a rented house, we called local technicians to check out vents that can build up with dust, debris and mold. One repairman tried to charge $700 to clean and sanitize the air duct system, which only needed a basic cleaning. #InsideEdition

This is one of reasons why dad has taught me to be resourceful with almost anything, in 2019 we had a problem with our well pump, and we called the plumber and he said that it was going to be a $5000 fix, dad told him to get the hell out of the house after he heard that number come out of the plumber's mouth, so soon after we decided to just buy a new well pump and some replacement tubes, and try our best to fix it ourselves with no plumbing experience, after a few TH-cam videos and some trial and error, we finally made it work and not even half ass it! The reason being since that fix our well pump has been working perfectly fine as it should, and we only spent around $500; A way better deal compared to $5000 "fix"

No argument to your comment, I’d just like to add that maybe you haven’t accounted for labor. You and your dad did it, so how many hours did it take? Not saying it’s 5k worth of labor, but don’t say it’s 500$ when you haven’t accounted for the time you and your father spent to fix. I’d say it probably would have been an estimate labor included 1k

we once had a place tell us we needed some like $1,500 fix to my moms car, took it to a friend, he said it that problem didnt exist, and our car could be fixed for roughly $150! than my step dad took the car back and told the manager who keep arguing we never give false quotes and your putting your wifes safety at risk by opting out on this work... smdh

I was charged $700 for my air duct cleaning too. They advertised for $200 but when they came in they said this and that and ended up charging me $700. They’re just advertising the low price to get into your house then the real charge comes out after that.
The problem with stories like this is they typically never say who DIDN'T try to rip people off.
The full version of this episode does show that one of the Hvac techs was honest.
