  • Today a bit of bonus Ferrari, I drive the world famous Influenzo, courtesy of my friend Jack ‪@Number27‬ - a car bought on auction, sight unseen, with two hours of prep and a few hidden faults.
I've never driven anything older than 1995 in the world of Ferrari, so how is this slice of iconic 70s prancing horse?

I'm glad you mentioned how good the ride was. I've had my 308 nearly 19 years and it still amazes me how well it deals with poor road surfaces, especially compared with a similar vintage 911. Weather looked glorious on your drive, no wonder it looked like fun. Thanks for a good vid.

I was 16 years old in 1979. My mate at school Dad worked for a fancy London advertising company. In ‘79 his company car was 308 GTB (fibreglass, carb version). After 3 years he got to keep his company cars!
So, his next company car was a....308 GTS !
To us as kids back then, they were just out of this world in looks and performance.
I wonder what it would feel like for me to drive one now.....

They removed the seat for Tom Selleck to drive on Magnum PI. That is one lovely looking car. I was fortunate enough to get a passenger ride in an open top 308 when the Ferrari owners club visited Headley Court nearly 10 years ago now selecting the 308 over the 430 and 360's that were also there that summer evening!

One of the prettiest cars ever made in my view. I never cared much about the usual suspects, but the 308 and 328 just look so balanced, sporty and timeless!

When I’ve saved enough, the 328 GTS is is the one for me. However, this is because of Beverly Hills Cop 2 and the poster on my bedroom wall! Although if you watch the film, they do use a 308 for some shots. Great video, nice to see a cross over with another of my favourite channels. 👍

  • @Stu047

The 308 is such a motoring icon. That shape and its detailing all became signature Ferrari traits; a real staple for the brand. - I think every subsequent Ferrari model, right into present day owes a little to the 308.
And I agree 100%, the 308 GTS is the Ferrari my minds eye makes a grab for whenever anyone says "Ferrari", although my favourite is the 288 GTO, a car that obviously drew a lot from the 308 (on the outside at least); only a little beefier.
I believe that one of the 308's used in the original Magnum PI is currently on display at a motoring museum in the States (Peterson Museum?), parked next to the DeLorean Time Machine of Back to the Future. The Magnum-308 even has a modified drivers seat to accommodate the fact that Tom Sellek is a very tall man.

My comment on Jack's channel when he told us about this video coming was that there's a perfect storm of some of my favourite TH-camrs brewing. Here are the first gusts. Can't help comparing this video to the one about the f12. You were constantly lifting off and it was rather annoying. But with this car, you are able to stay on the throttle for longer. A lot more aurally satisfying.

Suggested to @Number 27 that an interesting vid would be a back to back to back of his 308, a 328 and a late 348 (post 1992) to see the development of the Ferrari V8 line from mid 70s to mid 90s. A collaboration between the two of you doing that would make a great video. Besides, you could perhaps give the objective balance to his subjective love for his 308 :)

I quite like the x1/9, I've had 2 of 'em over the years. Not much in the way of reliability, or interior room, to be honest. Lol

@@nate_d376 don't get me wrong, in its own right the fiat looks fabulous for what it is, but a Ferarri should never be comparable to a fiat. It's a nod to the fiat and a look of disappointment towards the Ferarri. A back handed compliment, I guess. Lol

@@2702simmo I'd like to see them do a modern iteration. Be interesting to see, but I wouldn't say i hold the original in high regard, styling wise. It's definitely no Dino. The Ferarri that I am starting to really appreciate is the f348!

Bad-Bunny Blogger it was only because I was behind one on the motorway snd it just looked cool in a way I’d never appreciated before. I want to own a Ferrari before I die and it might be the only way 😂

The carbureted versions of the 308GTS have always been my favorite Ferraris. They are what I always thing of when I think of Ferrari. IMO, Ferrari has made some downright ugly cars. That includes most of the newer ones. The 308s were absolutely gorgeous, and they had, of all things, those beautiful Campagnolo FOURTEEN INCH wheels with actual tires, something so rare and special in today's sick world where just about every car out there, from exotic sports cars to minivans have at least 22 inch wheels with no tires.

I'm looking for a 308 GTS to complete my collection. A few years ago it was quite easy to find a 308, today they are much more rare.
Just to mention - my favourite Bond is Timothy Dalton, because I absolutely love "Living Daylights". 😎

It must be said: Ferrari needs to make a brand-new retro version of this car. It has worked well for the American car makers with the Mustang, Camaro, and Charger. A new 308 with a more reliable engine and 350-400 horsepower would be absolutely amazing. Price it low and let it mint money for the company. People would buy it in droves. People would fall in love with Ferrari again. In case the company is unaware, their cars are rapidly losing their souls. In terms of one of their competitors, think of Countach compared to the Aventador. One has a soul, and one doesn't. Well, the 308 has a soul, but I'm not sure sure the 488 has one.

Design really has gone backwards, the modern Ferraris just look like they're trying too hard, unbalanced and ass heavy compared to the 308 which looks great from every angle. Unmistakably 70's but no worse for it.

Very un p.c? Like anyone would seriously be pushing to have even more p.c nonsense these days. It's considered un p.c to even use the words man or woman. Trust james yet again to fall on the wrong side of the argument. Best off staying out of politics

Pity Ferrari don't make cars this pretty any more (opinion), every car they make looks hard edged and or bulbous and just too big, like putting an action man in that 308.

It’s not from 1979 look at the plate. If it was from 1979 if would of been a T plate. Love channel but how about a more modern utube intro and outro. What you have is from the 80s. To get more subs and be more professional your old format was better.
