    Why does it require a hack for a stepless grind setting when it's supposed to come with it from the factory?

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Jakob, the hack is just to turn the dial upside down, so that it is easier to read. Cheers!

    Hello Tom! As an owner of the graef cm702... one of the very few grinders in the sub 120 dollar category sometimes even under 100 (bought mine for 99 euros) that can actually grind espresso and even finer, I would recommend making a video on it. The retention is really noticable, sometimes it holds back even more than 1.5 grams but just 2 taps on top fixes the problem altogether! As shown in your video on the Urbanic I'd argue that the graef grinder is actually easier to remove any stuck coffee grounds. Of course the downside is the lesser quality burr and the speed of it. Would love to see your opinion on the topic.

      Hi Raccoon! Yes that could be interesting. I did make a short review video on it, and show the washer hack. But I could do a full fledged review one of these days. Cheers! Tom

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While the Urbanic offers great value for a 60mm flat burr grinder, I do still prefer the Eureka. The Urbanic is faster, but I like the design of the Eureka better, and it is quieter. The Eureka also has a better declumper and static remover. But if your budget is limited, there's nothing wrong with choosing the Urbanic.

    The 080 seems great for the money, is attractive (to me) and has a retro feel. So I looked up the company online. It's Korean-made and their calibration instructions are unintelligibly-translated word salad. Also, I can't make any sense of this dial, even after your suggestion to turn it upside down. I'm guessing that the instructions manual would torture me further if I purchased this. I'm at a loss to understand why anyone with engineering chops couldn't design a dial that's easy to interpret. I'm sure that mechanically-inclined male coffee nerds would love tinkering with this, but not the rest of us.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I will agree on those points. But it's actually a pretty good 60mm grinder for the price. Just static laden. Look at the Manuale from Eureka otherwise.

    • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's true. It's called RDT - Ross Droplet Technique. And it does make the beans more sticky when they're a little moist, like before it is ground. It also can affect the quality of the grinds somehow, I believe more moisture means espresso shots will flow slower (but I might have that backwards, not sure).
      I don't like RDT since it's an extra variable in that way and because it can make beans stick in grinder funnels or dosing cups etc. But if you have a grinder with bad static and don't mind cleaning up occasionally RDT may be useful. Some people get a fine mist spray bottle, a lot of higher end grinders will come with one. Or you can also just wet a tiny demitasse spoon or butter knife maybe and then stir the coffee beans up with it so you're adding a little moisture.

    If this is a stepless grinder, then one need not purchase this item. Get the 070s instead. To make the 070s stepless, cut a ‘washer’ from a very thin sheet of metal. I used the sliding cover of an old 3.5” floppy disk. Shape it so it threads on to the unit and its diameter is identical to the detent ring. Then position it between the detent ring and the detent pin. Voila! You just saved a hundred bucks.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting idea. Or you could find a real thin washer like those provided with the Graef CM70 to adjust the burr spacing. Thanks for the tip!
