I just ordered myself one, its going to be my first electric car (been driving saab forever). They had a really good offer on some models here in Norway where you got the advance package including summer+winter tires and metallic paint for 299,999,- norwegian kroners. I added some extras like ceramic drop off, charging cables, interior mats, mud flaps etc and it came at a total of 318,500,- nkr wich i have to say is an excellent price for what you get.
The range on this is ridiculous, I have an iX40, its WLTP is 415km with a similar sized battery in a much larger vehicle with duel motors, over summer I achieved this multiple times including a best of 468km on a trip from where I live to Trondheim.
In UK you can get this for £260 a month with just £1000 deposit and £11,100 deposit contribution. So yes the competition has better mileage, but for £27,800 with 0% APR I choose this for the looks and price. The Kona is better but UGLY!! The other competitors from Mokka E etc are awful
I bought one and the car is generally nice. But I HATE the 'ping' when you just reach the speed limit. Seems to be no way to turn it off or adjust it according to Honda. Works off the GPS. Talk about "Nanny State". Almost enough to make me want to take it back.
Im sorry to be "that guy"... But that function is an EU requirement and is going to be standard in every car sold in europe (it is what it is i guess)... It IS possible to turn it of, but you have to turn it of BEFORE you start to drive. And you have to do it every time you restart the car and go for a new ride...
Brilliant review and I love the laymen terminology you speak with. I have just ordered a ENY1 for my wife for March delivery, reason being, it will be our first EV and after reading about how old school (your words) it was to drive, I thought it would be a good introduction to the world of electric with no real shock to the system being 58 years of age. Another reason was that the dealership is very local to where we live and a friend that owns a Tesla is often making the 60 mile round trip to his dealer for software updates? I 100% agree with your opinion that Honda have come to the party late and should have made an impact more so, I personally would describe their effort as being the 'Grey Man', an old military term. My wife only travels approximately 20 miles per day and on the very odd occasion she may take a shopping trip which is approximately 80 miles round trip, this should be a good choice for her, at least I hope so or my 39 year marriage will be at risk....lol I look forward to watching some of your other reviews as to date this one has been far more in depth than any other I have seen, it's nice to hear someone providing real time feedback and honest opinion rather than just blurting our the provided company specification. Thank you again 🙂
For a transition to EVs for drivers used to more traditional brands/cars this will be a logical step. At least as a second car for more local trips exactly as you describe you and your wife's current situation. 👍 Thank you for tuning in and for your nice feedback. I always try to dig a bit deeper and make my reviews more consumer relevant and at the same time provide my insight from similar cars I have tested. 🙏
Range and charging really dont matter for most people, if they can charge at home. However, I strongly suggest leasing this car, rather than buying, because this car will not be sought after in a few years.
Totally agree and we have indeed leased the car, mainly due to the £8k reduction in the showrooms just a couple of months after its release. It shows that Honda are aware they have a bit of a white elephant and that their bad judgement of not coming to the party with a 'WOW' factor has resulted in them taking some drastic action. @@adrianguggisberg3656
In the UK it comes with 5 years warranty, 5yrs paid service & 5yrs road side assist. Plus £8000 finance deposit. The residual values in a PCP plan is also high, so the actual monthly cost is lower than the competition
Monthly cost in UK is quite good, but it's got some stiff competition from MG ZS EV long range I think, which is cheaper.. And has similar spec in the Trophy version.
@@decimal1815I was going to go with the MG, but I can’t do it. Stuck with an MG for 4 years. I paid a little more in UK for that BEAUTIFUL Aqua Topaz paint and that Honda respect and reliability
The Honda e:NY1 isn't a real a Honda product, it was engineered and is being manufactured by Dongfeng in China. So its a Dongfeng car with a Honda badge. Nothing wrong with Dongfeng cars, but they are not a Honda.
Like your comparison tot 'new on the dance floor'. If Apple is ever going to produce an EV, that's what I'm hoping for: A stunning entrance to the dance floor. And advise; vacuum that small box (phone charger) before you put your camera on macro recording. It looked like a mess! Like your honest and methodical approach to testing.
Top spec appears to start at £36k in UK, which isn't bad until you consider that this is a relatively small car. I like the size of this though - it's about the same dimensions as a Leaf, but with bigger wheels. Would be nice to down-spec the wheels to 17" to make it more efficient and less expensive to swap tyres. 61.9 kWh usable battery capacity, which is pretty good, but less than some of the competition in this price range. Hopefully the range in summer will be better though.
Having cable storage underneath everything in the boot is a really silly idea. It should be on the top. Even better, it should be in the frunk, if the car has a recharging socket at the front.
my view fromowning different evs. i would rank the suspension system amongst the best I have driven. atto3 is too soft while tesla model y and ora good cat is too hard. EN1 is just nice.
I like the look of this car. The only thing I would change is the Honda emblem on the front. I would just have used the HONDA lettering on the front as well.
I decided to lease this car (Advance version) at a campaign for 3795 Swedish Kronor per month, including everything (even winter tires and insurance). For that prize I think the car is amazing. But buying it new dosen’t feel like the best deal.

Great review. With electric propulsion, FWD should be banned. Stunning to see how much the Chinese evolved, this Honda can't compare to a Nio, BYD, Zeekr, Ora, etc. The perception of quality and equipment is much better on the Chinese cars.
You do not talk about some serious points, how is the battery protected from damage, has that protection be tested. What is the cost of replacing a battery due to damage, what are the insurance companies stance of battery coverage in an accident. 2:14
Batteries always protected by high strength Steel/titan/aluminum frames, cells can't be exposed. But the design on this one is a bit strange. But this is parts that the manufacturers normally don't mention in the specs.
Good review, this car is over priced and has a poor range. I will stick with my HRV until range improves to around to 350 miles if not buy another make.
You think this car is worth 23000 euro? That's the price of a Toyota Aygo X, that's absurd. Reviewers are so harsh towards this car for just being average lmao
@@montanax8127 it was me who said 23k EUR, not the reviewer. fun fact: Honda dealers in China are struggling to sell the E:NY1 (called E:NS1 there) at a marked-down price of 125k RMB, which is 16k EUR. yes, just 16,000 Euros!

I mean, 10 to 80% in 45min, this is too much. For a long drive, which this car is normally made for as a family car, acceptable time would be an average of 30min, imho. And it's cold gating! WTF Imagine doing a 1000km drive, it will take ages.... 😐 And it's supposed to be made in collaboration with DongFeng, a Chinese brand which should do a good EV. I don't really understand the point here. I'm very sorry for Honda, but for the price point, you can buy way better, starting - again - with Tesla. It seems that Honda ad Toyata missed their first EVs unfortunately. We can hope they will do better for the next ones.
@@ItsOnlyElectric You know, I will go deeper in my point of view.
