@MarkBennetCameraCrisis what happens if you record like 4 minutes of 4k 120 and then continue shooting at 4k 60 and 4k 24? Does the camera manage the heat well or is the heat effect cumulative, affecting the rest of your recording time at other rates?

These are impressive record times. I do video work, 120 would be a specialty shot for me; I'd switch to it temporarily to do a scene and go back to 24 or 60.

I bought the Sony ZV E10 and the Sigma 16mm for vlogging, but it didn't go well due to the weight and the limited coverage in active stabilization mode. So now I have bought the Sony 11mm lens. The 11mm lens produces much sharper video, and the colors are naturally good. However, the Sigma lens produces less sharp video and less saturated colors. I edit my videos on my mobile, and I don't know much about color grading, so I usually use the intelligent auto mode. You recommended the 11mm lens, but I bought the Sigma, and it turned out to be a total loss. I had some budget issues, so I sold the Sigma lens in the local market at a cheaper price. Thanks for your guidance. Every TH-camr in South India knows you, and almost every local TH-camr is using the Sony ZV E10.

For these few seconds you need to record and wait for that moment you need. And you are most likely taking more than just a one shot - without longer breaks, you will reach the shutdown at a later time, but might be the moment you will miss.
Hi Mark, I’m glad you said you use the camera in short bursts at 4k 120 as I would do the same, what I’m interest in is whether just having the camera powered on (maybe for a few hours using an external battery) and stopping and starting recording for about 30 seconds every few minutes over that time period would be an acceptable use or will it only handle that if the camera is powered off all the time to cool it right down ?
I think the temperatures I would use it in would be about the same as your tests.

I think if you used a dummy battery it would last a lot longer - but leaving it on for a long time might cause you problems.

I just got it and after a few tests didn't feel confident to use it on a wedding day under the sun. Plus I didn't know there's no HS 25p mode which has no logical explanation, wish they addressed that too, really thinking about returning it
Yes - for some reason doesn't doesn't provided the HS codec for the 25p. I cannot find out the reason why. I would return it if you are shooting weddings and pick up the FX30 - it's cheaper, has two card slots, HS codec in 25p, and completely reliable as it has a fan.
the moment I am waiting for but my budget is still not in place! haha!
The biggest problem is that if you want to film quick 10-25seconds clips for the entire afternoon, is it able to keep running without overheating?
My a6300, depending on the wheater, after 30 minutes below a 28ºC sun overheats and it's tottaly non-productive to film like this
How long does it last in 4k 60 fps and is this good as a live stream camera for hours of streaming or does it overheat too much?
it depends on the environment, but indoors you can’t expect more than 20 mins of 4k60 and it shuts down streaming after 27mins unless you use a fan on the back of the camera

Hey Mark this time i have thought question for you .
Lets say we have iphone 12/13 mini and latest Sony experia .I am amazed by low light hdr quality which i just saw .
Now both phones are under 200 grams means that i can mount CLP filter for reflections and some ND filter for too much sunlight .Which phone gimbal will you recommend .

A product with that price tag and overheat issue, is a faulty product that should not be sold in the first place. Amazing how easily we accept these flaws and then start to look for weird solution and patches.
it’s my most used camera. cameras have different tradeoffs. an fx3 is double the cost and it still isn’t as good as a vlogging or travel camera. this isn’t flawed or faulty.
Hi Mark, if you had limited budget, and had to choose 1 jack of all trades camera and lens, that would be good for video and photo, what would that be?
Well, right now, the A7iv with the Sigma 24-70 2.8 would probably be the best camera and lens combo that would do many things and a price that isn’t crazy. But it’s not super cheap. The A7C with the 24-70 could be a good option as well. But things could change in the next few weeks with all these rumours flying around
For a similar price range, wouldn't it be a fair comparation this ZV-E1 against the S5II? Not only about the overheating issues but also, with the S5II having that ingenious heat extraction system.
The S5ii and S5iix are amazing cameras and much better values overall to most people. But the ZV-E1 is targeted at a specific group who want a small, light camera with amazing lowlight and 120 4K

@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Time to a video on using the right camera for the right occasion. So many are questioning which is the best for this or that. It can be divided into two categories, cinematography and photography: cameras with EVFs and those without. Further subdivide the cinematography into the professional FX cameras and the ZV cameras. Love your videos. Going to get my daughter to watch and study your videos when I give her the ZV-E10.
As you have been using the camera after the update, have you generally found less overheating? More specifically, for filming talking head videos do you experience overheating at all still? What about when you use as a webcam? Thanks! New sub
The overheating is great these days. I film for often more than an hour 24p 4k and no overheat warning at all but webcam and streaming you might see some so pick up a Ulanzi cooling fan and you should be fine

I live in the Caribbean with temperatures over 85 deg F an humidity over 75-80% all year around. I think the firmware update will auto-uninstall after the first use 😂
😂 possibly. but I did use the camera with no problem in West Africa for 2 weeks in those temperatures. it didn’t have 4K 120 at the time, but the rest of the modes worked well.
Still no updates for the zv-e10 ://
the zv-e10 had a few update in the beginning. I doubt there will be any more. it has an older sensor and processor and there is not much else Sony can add to it.
I also do wedding filmmaking please tell me buy fx30 or zv-1 fx30 at 4k 120fps cropping a lot and low light is not good zv-1 will be good for me please tell me which one will be good for me

Can you pls test 120p on log, flexible iso, slog3 sgamut3 cine. I tried it and van play back on camera but get a black screen and only audio on my mac. Even in fcp. Do you have the same problem?
OK. I researched and found out that it is an Apple macOS Ventura issue that is currently fixed in beta with 13.5 b2. So once the next Mac OS update is released it should work.

Sir Please tell me pros and cons If I use full frame lens on aps-c camera ?
The only con is the price (unless you're planning to upgrade to a full-frame camera in the future). Other than that, the only difference is the focal length you get. Simply put: just add 50% to the FE (Full-Frame) lens and that's gonna be its focal length on an APS-C body. E.g. 20mm full-frame = 20+10 = 30mm on a crop sensor. 50mm full-frame = 50+25 = 75mm aps-c... and so on...

are you using MacOS and the usb-c? I can't seem to connect the camera directly to my Macs with any success at all. I'm running latest version of Ventura.
Yes - MacOS m1 and m2 macs using OBS or Ecamm on Ventura. Just look up streaming in the manual - you may have streaming not enabled over USBC

Thanks a lot. ❤ Can you please make a video on how to take long exposure shots (like flow of traffic, waterfall in motion, star trails) using sony zv e-10 with it's kit lens? These things which we get from the live photo option of an Iphone. I don't have an iphone. So.... And i don't know if I'm talking like an illiterate, i mean is it even possible to take long exposure shots with it's kit lens? If possible please make a video or educate me. I'll be starting my first solo trip in next 4 months. And I'll be mostly visiting the waterfalls of the North east side of my country, which are mind blowing. So I really want to take that shot. I get so much knowledges from your videos, I love you so much. 😌 Hope you'll reply. TIA.
long exposure shots on the kit lens will be like any lens. you need a neutral density filter. usually for waterfalls people use a 10-stop ND. Do a TH-cam search of waterfalls and long exposures and you’ll be on you way 👍

Hi mark, I was wondering if you could help me decide which camera should I buy
I am between the Sony a6600, the Sony a7rii and the Sony a7ii
• I have a $1500 dollar budget
• I have a little less then a year of experience in the camera world
• I had a canon M50 but got stolen from me a few months before I turned a year with it
• I will be using it both as video and photo camera but mostly photo

Sorry to hear about your Canon. I wouldn't get the a7rii or a7ii just because they are the greatest for video and the autofocus isn't the best. So you can look at the a6600, but you really want a nice lens with your camera - so you can look at maybe the a6100 and sigma 18-50 2.8 - or a used a6400 and the Sigma lens. You should be able to get those combos for less than $1500. But if the rumour sites are saying there might be some stuff coming in mid-July, so that's something you may want to wait for if you can.

Not bad times, but how does it stack up on a day of use during travel for example? There were reviews that stated it also overheats when not filming and leave the camera on for a while?
I have found it great for travel. I usually turn my cameras on and off when not shooting, because I want to save the battery. But if you plan extended use sessions, this camera does overheat as everyone says.

I think the update for 4k 120 fps just came out. I couldn't access Full HD 240 fps

Having the overheating does not instill confidence and peace of mind, despite the smaller size. I'm a realtor, not a fulltime filmmaker, but I would love if they eventually release a firmware update that solve the overheating issue. As of now, I'm happy with the FX3 despite it being a little bit bigger. I hope Sony will release a FX3 Mark II with crazy specs. Just sucks to know that my more expensive camera have inferior autofocus, but at the same time, it's good for people getting into Sony for the first time.
the fx3 is overall the best camera money can buy in the mirrorless world. the autofocus is fantastic even without the new ai chip
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis a more compact camera for someone who's not a fulltime filmaker would be really great though, like I don't need fan like the FX3 but perhaps similar overheating performance as the A7SIII, perhaps in the future.
10 minutes is not good for combat sport. But, this is an impressive camera for the price
hmmm...i always assumed this will be a firmware update, instead of a "license." does this mean that the camera always had this capability and they were just holding people off from using it?
That's a good question - I don't know what the reason is behind it, but there must have been something they had to work out, because it would have been foolish not to include it as it held many back from buying at launch.

haha - you’ll still get roughly the same times. I tried it in all in west Africa (except the 4k120) and the times were the same. it’s more about the camera and not the weather.

Hello Sir… i have 2 a74 bodies… i am thinking of selling one of them and getting zve1… you think it’s a right decision… or would it be absurd to sell a professional camera for a plasticy vlogging camera… i just wanted the AI chip and 4k 60 at a reasonable price.. a7r5 is too expensive and a7c2 will be pretty highly priced i feel. Looking for your guidance… im from India which is not a cold country by any means…

I use my a7iv and ZV-E1 all the time together. The ZV-E1 I use for 4k120 a lot and travel and vlogging. But it will overheat and is only meant to be used for short periods of time.

I rather keep my Sony A7S3. Not issues in the Atacama desert, no issues in the Australian 45 degrees summer, it s a tank! Shame on Sony for not updating the A7S3. They re losing customers. The Zv1 is way more fragile and still overheats
oh for sure the a7siii is a much more reliable workhorse with two card slots to boot. even without any updates it’s great. it would be great to see focus breathing compensation at least.

Ideally, you want to get the A7SIV, There are rumours for it coming out end of 2023. It would be with a sick dynamic range. (there's always a bigger fish)
@@G2RMN I'm honing my skills to be able to use a cam like that to its full potential. I just find the ZVE1 to be expensive enough that you can hold out put a bit more money away and go for an A7SIII

I do with my Fx3. Often times I'll press record and go for 20 or 30 minutes. But it has a fan
@@MarineX just curious (in a humble way) what are you shooting? The only reason I could see to go over a few minutes would be if you're trying to capture a fast moving animal or object like a bird, object falling into water, etc. or a person trying to do something acrobatic like backflips on the beach and you're trying to capture a moment with the animal or taking multiple takes to get the acrobatic moves just right. I'm curious as to what I'm missing just in case I'm missing something else that I might need at some point.
@@timbrowntown I'm just filming tons of stuff in the man cave. Sometimes leaving the record going while I setup the next shot. I just happen to film for those long periods of time. But I could train myself to do shorter clips. I just don't because I have an fx3

this is just a license to unlock the 4K 120 and 240 1080. there’s no other change to the camera
Uhm, this really isn't a software upgrade. If you download the license agreement as directed, and break it open to look at the code, there is no software upgrade. It's just a license code, which means the 120 was there all the time. This just unlocks what was all ready there--giving some degree of legitimacy to the wondering a while back if Sony was going to charge for the 120. Guess they decided not to charge for it, because this only unlocks what was all ready there, not upgrade the software.
This is true - not a software upgrade - just a license. Maybe they had plans of trying to release a firmware update before issuing the license that would help with the heat and then gave up or maybe they did consider charging (but I doubt that because companies usually announce if the license later will be a paid license), or perhaps a licensing issue they had to work out with some governing body - I don’t know why they held it back. But at least it’s here now.

For all the people who say "it makes nosense to shoot longer than several seconds in 120p". What about me shooting in 4k60 for 50 Minutes and then I quickly need 4k120? For how long I am ablte to record the video? Nobody can answer this question, because its not a reliable camera. If you can deal with this, fine, I can not. I need a reliable camera and not a toy. It overheats even at 1080p.
My friend, if you need to film 4k60 for almost an hour then it’s definitely not a camera for you and it’s okay. I’ve already done some small commercials in my studio for altogether more than 4 hours with little stops to change angles and prepare products, it was doing absolutely well. And now I’m in Thailand using it every day for 1-2 hours with extremely high humidity due to rain season here and it’s all awesome for me personally
I would get a different camera for sure with what you're describing. I wouldn't even count on 50 mins of 4k 24 - let alone 4k 60

Back peddling from your Africa review? Shameless Mark, I used to to think you made some very honest reviews in the past, now I am not sure anymore. Sony really must be twisting a lot of arms with their (sic) "New" overheating disasters A7600 & ZV-E1
Not sure what you’re talking about. There was no 4K 120 available when I was in Africa. The 4K 24 or 4k60 did not overheat in Africa because I was outside with good airflow - as I said in the video. My zv-e1 can overheat in the studio with no airflow or when streaming. This has been stated over and over in all my videos. Please listen more carefully before you accuse people of being dishonest. I use my ZV-E1 more than any other camera I own. Sony doesn’t give out free gear or sponsor any of my videos. Not cool to call people dishonest.
Mark is fast becoming my favourite Sony kit reviewer as he is both informative and entertaining. Not sure how you can doubt his honesty when he did multiple videos comparing the current set of cameras which meant pointing out all their flaws too. And he is responsive in the comments long after a video has been released which shows he’s here to help and not just looking at the algorithm
