Another excellent demonstration of the ZV-E1. When I shot a feature film with the GH5 back in 2019, we were in many situations where we were outdoors in direct sunlight. Filming for hours. The GH5 never overheated.
Hi Mark, Overheating is partially user error and partially camera manufacturer don’t show user guide videos. I tend to say the former is more true. At any rate, you made me think when I was younger years back and worked at a call center (won’t mention the brand) and had a customer call in for troubleshooting his new laptop. He said it doesn’t work. I asked if it had power and he said no. I asked if you have it plugged in. He said oh, my bad but still no power. I asked do you have electricity. He said no, rolling black out. So I highly suggested him to return the laptop and never call back again. He called back and complained to my manager and I was let go. Good ridden. If we understand thermal physics then we can have a sort of workarounds to address overheating through airflow, passive and active cooling. Gaston just shared a video where he left the battery doors opened, flipped out the screen, and turned on the high temp settings. I wonder also if we turn on the airplane mode to turn off BT and wifi, that should help some as well. Using dummy battery, battery grip (don’t like using this), or power through USBC, and a magnesium alloy cage will help. For long form, I assume if you record externally with say a Atomos Ninja 5/5+, it should be able to record indefinitely
Never call back 😂😂. Yes - all of those things should help. You'll still likely get overheating if doing something like streaming in 4k for a long period of time in a closed room - but there are always ways to make sure the camera keeps running. These days everyone complains about everything.
A7iv user from Côte d'Ivoire here, I confirm what Mark explained, I was surprised to film outside with the A7iv for relatively long times without overheating. All the videos about the A7iv overheating made me nervous but you end up forgetting about it when using the camera.
That backdrop is definitely gorgeous, but I also really like your usual background! It's surprising that it does worse inside at a reasonable temp compared to outdoor ultra-humid Africa 🤣. I can't be mad at Sony anymore... You are right. They said it was for vloggers, and this proves it!
Thanks for this very enlightening video, Mark! I'm less dissapointed with the ZV-E1 after watching it. Will I buy it? No. In the end, it means that had Sony been more carefull with the cameras design and put a cooling fan in the ZV-E1, all the issues would have been solved. Considering that it is a 2,2k camera, they should have done it.
I get 2 hours 24 fps XAVCS HS and Over 5:20 Hours XAVC S (And the limit here was the 256G getting full. Posting the test in my channel soon. It seems like youtubers purposely make it heat so they have some drama to talk about. Thank you for the video
I saw your vid - it was great! The open doors help for sure. I still experience overheating when streaming from USB-C in 4k without a fan after about 25mins. So I use a little fan. Problem solved!!

The environmental conditions are nearly identical to the average temperatures and humidity in my country in Central America which is why I've been so concerned about how risky buying the ZV-E1 is for me. I'm almost set on the FX30 instead but I sure would prefer that lovely sensor from the E1 🥺

I had thought the Lumix S5II or S5IIX would be one of the main competitors (or options to consider) against the E1, maybe I was wrong since this one seems targeted to a different use.
Still, given how slowly it looked like you were walking…I would suggest you not. Just stand still and vlog. Otherwise it looked good and sounds like performance was good, just need to be somewhere with airflow. So all you need to do is add a breeze and 🌴 to your studio and no worries! Great video once again, and so sorry about the hockey!
I wasn't walking that slowly. It was a wide lens. Check out the pace most people walk in movies. Its very casual. Any faster will make your audience seasick no matter what the camera

I would look at getting a full Frame lens like the 24-70 from Sigma or the Tamron 28-75. Nice to have a full frame lens to capture all the glory of that sensor. But you can try out the 18-50 with clear image zoom first and see how it goes

The 11mm allows you to have a tiny lens that’s also very wide and f1.8 for $500. Since clear image zoom works so well - you get something that doesn’t exist otherwise. A small, light 16mm equivalent f1.8 for $500

No - the camera will definitely heat up a lot more in your hands. It never did overheat of me handholding for photos and video though - and I used it a lot.
When filming full HD, at a temperature of 30 degrees, does the Sony ZV-E1 camera overheat? Or is the problem only with 4K filming? I can give up 4K, but I may need to film outside when it's over 30 degrees.

Outside with proper airflow not in direct sunlight. As is in the video. I also shot the zv-e1 today in Toronto for 1 and 1/2 hours because I was outside not in direct sunlight. You won’t get as long run times with no airflow in a stuffy room or streaming
Yup - it only causes a problem in specific circumstances - it's good to know the limitations - but overheating should not stop most people from getting this camera (depending on their use case)

indoors with no airflow you may have issues - outside with airflow seems to work well

Make sure you keep the screen open and set the internal temp to High.

For sure. Outside if there is a breeze things are better. But for wedding work, an FX3 or S5ii might be better

As long as you’re not in direct sunlight - it’ll be fine outside. Even in 4K.

Do you think this would be an upgrade from the A7SIII? I have my doubts about how it will perform in 4k 120 fps though. What do you think?
I wouldn't call this an upgrade no - the A7SIII is a better camera in my opinion. But of course, it cost a lot more

I wrote the bitrate on the screen - but it was 4k24 XAVC HS 100mbps and 4k60 XAVC HS 200mbps
