  • The Trust Equation. This video is about building Trust - and how building Trust will Improve Relationships and Enhance the Quality of our Lives. After you have food and shelter, it is the quality of the relationships that really make your life. Relationships are really about trust. Where there is no trust, there is no relationship.
    The Trust Equation: conorneill.com/2011/11/17/trust/
The Arbinger Institute, Outward Mindset: arbinger.com/mindset/
** How do you Increase Trust?
In order to Increase Trust =
    Increase Perception of Credibility or
    Increase Perception of Reliability or
    Increase Intimacy or
    Reduce Perception of Self-Orientation.
** Ways to increase Perception of Credibility:
    Tell the truth.
    Don’t exaggerate.
Avoid saying things that others may see as lies (eg “We’ll put our best people on it”)
If you don’t know, say “I don’t know”. Quickly.
If you don’t belong, don’t go.
    Do your homework.
    Care about the work.
**Ways to increase Perception of Reliability:
Make specific small commitments and deliver 100%.
    Send meeting materials in advance.
Make sure meetings have clear goals, and that those goals are met.
Use the words your listener would use.
    Review agendas for meetings.
    Re-confirm events 24 hours before.
    **Ways to Increase Intimacy:
    Ask insightful questions.
    Share first.
** Ways to Reduce Perception of Self-Orientation:
    Ask questions.
Listen and paraphrase without adding anything.
Resist the need to fill silences.
Focus on defining the problem, not guessing the solution.
Say “I don’t know” if you don’t know.
Take responsibility for failed communications (“I have failed to communicate clearly” vs “You don’t understand“)
Think as if you were completely responsable for this person’s future success in all aspects that are important to the other person.
Care about the work. If you don’t care about the work, it is inevitable that you will focus more on yourself. Low self orientation is all about intensity of your commitment to help your listener.

So far I always argued that trust is not measurable or at least not plannable. Like "I want to build trust" is very vague. But I love the idea of this concept, especially the "other and self-orientation" part is very very strong and makes sense to me. There is a great quote I think from Henry Ford "If there is any one secret of success, it lies in the ability to get the other person's point of view and see things from that person's angle as well as from your own." This cannot be done with honest other orientation. So I think this all is tight together.
    Thanks a lot!

Kudos for the video content! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered - Millawdon Varied Nights Trick (do a google search)? It is an awesome one off guide for learning intimate questions to make your relationship stronger minus the normal expense. Ive heard some decent things about it and my cooworker at very last got cool results with it.

Thank you Conor. It's refreshing to learn about self orientation part of the equation. Appreciate your view and your strategy to understand where we stand in terms of self orientation and other orientation Made total sense.

    Hi Conor,
Whit that awesome formula, you can get confidence from other people, that it is a treasure, so is very important remember that you can get confidence only once time but at the same you can lost it once. You need to make grow that confidence to build valuable and truly relationships.
Thank you for share us those valuable tips and resources!
