Overall I think most have done a pretty good job given that they are trying all new things moving away from ICE but there are hiccups. Of course every maker will face issues. Enjoyed this video, especially the summary of the F150 Lightning. Towing is a big issue for EV’s. There was a significant difference with the trailer attached and empty versus the trailer loaded with the ATV. It would be interesting to compare those differences with an ICE F150. I was considering the Lightning but after watching a few towing videos, realized that the reduction in range with towing is a show-stopper. If I want to pull my boat from Minneapolis into Canada, I would be concerned how to make it to the Canadian lake from International Falls with the type of road for traveling. I assume that fast charging stations could be installed but I don’t see that happening for several years. At my age, I’m not certain that I will ever be able to buy an EV that would make practical and economical sense. Minnesota requires that EV owners submit mileage driven in an EV annually so that road taxes can be assessed (to make up for loss of tax revenue at gas pumps). I think it is great technology but not really affordable for most families, especially with the high inflation that is happening right now. Also, gas prices have been artificially escalated by current gov’t policies cutting oil licenses on Federal lands and the nonsense that the world is going to end in 30 years if we don’t drastically reduce CO2 emissions by 2030 or sooner. Also, the tax credit on EV’s is a big scam on taxpayers. The gov’t is not going to cut spending so the tax credit is only going to drive higher tax rates for everyone. All that said, I enjoy watching your videos on EV technology.

High speed, high load is an absolute nightmare for electric motor efficiency. Electric motors are most efficient low load. The motor in isolate is most efficient at high speed, but introduce aero drag and it's much more efficient at low speed.
Combustion engines are the opposite. They are more efficient at high load. You will burn more fuel, but you're getting a greater portion of the energy out of the fuel.
If an electric truck and gas truck have the same range empty, put a load in the bed or tow anything and the gas truck will gain a massive lead.

You can calculate the price of your household energy vs gasoline easily. What they never talk about though is maintenance requirements. What is the cost of ownership to maintain both of these over 5 years?

    • @WhoThisGuy515

@@aussie2uGA an electric car is basically maintenance free. Regen keeps the brake pads new almost the entire time and the only fluid that it has is the coolant that's used for the batteries and because it doesn't get diluted by combustion it's on a 10 year interval.

Between my EV and my Mustang I spend about $125 in fuel driving 40 miles a day 4 days a week for a month. I charge my EV at home only with a 240 plug and it's plugged in from 1am when i get home and is done charging by 6am. Here in CO i'm at .20c kWh and it costs about $50 to charge over a month. Now if your fast charging in public your not saving any money. Using my local costs i figured out that if fuel is below $4 a gallon and i'm charging publicly then I'm actually spending more money driving the EV.

That will not be done as it would show the TRUE cost and shortfalls of the vehicle. Though they push the fact that they paid for this vehicle they do NOT pay for the numerous vehicles they "test" such as the original hummer ev...as such they don't want to piss the big companies off or they won't give them more vehicles to test( for content ) This is why they complain a little and then downplay the problem and spent countess videos talking up a vehicle that completely failed almost immediately. It is also VERY smart to NOT keep the vehicles long term so they don't have to make the big companies look bad because basically NOTHING new will last long term and even ends up being repaired under warranty numerous times. Quality of new vehicles is CRAP! And all electric vehicles range and charging capabilities are grossly exaggerated...don't believe it,do some research !

I am semi retired and am very much looking into your reviews. They are factual and give me "aha" moments. That the Hummer let you stranded and On-Star just dropped the ball is unforgivable. Not that the Hummer is on my list. After watching Tyler Hoover and this channel frequently I am getting a really good idea of what EV is capable of. I still work about two days in the office every week and am looking for a quiet comfort ride on back roads in South Western Ontario, Canada. We get some snow, never know how much because of the lakes but I have not exercises my snow tires in three years (also because of the pandemic). The F150 seems to be an excellent all rounder, really something to keep in mind. Also looking at the mid size SUV/CUV market. I plan to wait until there is stock at the dealerships and negotiations are in a better place since the taxes are brutal here. Interesting system you have in Colorado with the taxes on the difference. Love the shows.

31:55 -- I had a 2015 Mustang with leather seats that started doing that after about 2 years / 20,000 miles. It actually developed a small split at the seam, too. Ford replaced it under warranty. If they did that for a $35K EcoBoost Mustang, I'd guarantee you they'll do it for your $81K lightning.

in watching the break down video, I noticed when your partner reconnected the battery and got back in the truck, the software displayed actions to complete, like roll down the windows. I noticed a DISMISS option on the screen as if to dismiss that request. I wonder if dismissing each action would have moved you through the process faster. Just noting that if the window motor didn't work or it was a heavy downpour, then you could dismiss the requested action.

Advice for your trials: Use the "no freeways" option for the trip planning. You don't prove much by driving hours on freeways.
You'd be surprised how much work (and thus varied experience) it is to drive without using freeways. And you will also find you lose necessary communications fairly frequently.
A worst case I have experienced is a recent trip from Texas to Illinois and back...no freeways. I lost smart phone communications and internet repeatedly. In one instance it left me out in the middle of nowhere (near Poplar Bluff, MO) with no idea where I was.
Google maps doesn't drop crumbs. When you're high and dry, the least it should do is show you where it last knew you were...and how you got there. I had to resort to the compass until I got back into civilization. Without that I would have had to get out and check the moss on trees...in the dark.

Already put 5500 miles in a month on mine. Glad I did not wait in hind sight as I am eligible for the $7500 tax credit which the ERs for 23 cannot get and the XLT Er is more than my 22 Lariat ER costs.
