I have one of these im happy with it for what it cost. The collet screws in so if it's a little loose tighten up with the tools supplied

Thanks Ben. And your dog is a great big beautiful boy. My advisor in college and professor said no excuses. My oldest son scribbled all over my homework. So I handed it in. Didn't have time to rewrite 4pages notes. She held it up in front of class asked me what is this. I replied it's my homework. I also had it color coated for each subject if u look. U wanted no excuses so there's my homework. She loved it 😂

Hi Ben, My Micro-Motor was delivered yesterday and I gave it a brief test. In the ebay listing it was referred to as a Marathon III, but the labeling on the machine only says "Micro-Motor" although it looks identical to the Marathon III branded machine, except the foot pedal, handpiece rest, and cords are all black on mine. Also, no actual instructions are included. There is a one-page color brochure with photos of different models. I don't really know what I actually received, or if this one is substantially different than a Marathon III. Apart from those minor deviations, the case and handpiece look identical to yours.
I did notice something worrisome though. The speed dial on the control box doesn't seem to change the speed from the one o'clock position through the highest setting. On all the other settings I can hear a difference in the sound as the speed changes. I can also feel and see a difference in the engraving (diamond bur on glass), but from one o'clock to five
o'clock positions (full-speed) there is no change at all. That doesn't seem right to me. Does your machine have a discernible change in sound & speed in those positions? What do you think? The first 2 lowest positions have very little power even with a diamond on glass and
they are pretty rough and chattery. It feels like the handpiece might stall at those low speeds. I don't know if that's normal or not. I have a very light touch, but even with that those positions aren't workable on glass, so it probably would stall on wood. I'm thinking maybe I should return this machine and see if a replacement is any better. What's your opinion on this issue, please? Thank you for any advice you can provide. Shirley

Hi Ben, Thanks for the review on this one. I've b'een looking at these for a different use than wood carving. I want it to tool leather. I watched one video that showed a very similar motor from Ali-Express and the guy said he got an additional handpiece to give him the reciprocating action that is needed for leather tooling. I looked on their web site, but couldn't find a separate reciprocating handpiece. Have you seen anything that would fit my needs on the import market?

Is this the shiyang 3 micromotor? I've got a Dremel 3000 and it's not very powerful (At least for me) do you know if you would recommend this over the 3000 in terms of power? Does it take 1/8 burs? I was thinking of getting a more powerful Dremel but they are a bit pricy for my budget. I'm also a beginner Carver. Thanks for a good channel. Gus

Yes... I think I would stay with the dremel...These are pretty cheap and I have been told by folks that quality control is all over the map. If you are using the carving tool why not spend the 3-4 hundred?

That's not been my experience with buying Chinese knock offs. My buddy and I bought one each a couple years ago and it simply had no power. We bought new controllers and used the Chinese hand pieces with the new controllers which seem to work. So it's funny to think that your hand piece were no good and the ones we got were okay. Quality Control? I feel like wasted my money buying the knock off pieces from China.

Norman, I agree...however if a person was wanting to "Try Out" power carving... for the
price of a dremel (I think dremel is entry level unless you go big) then it is a good deal.
50-80 bucks...another 5 worth of bits and poof! If you like it and can deal with the dust...open your wallet and go for the 400-1500 machines.
      Thanks for sharing your info...Ben

@@CarvingFusion It came with an 1/8th collett so you could use 3/32nds with an insert and not have to change the collett
