Dude what a great video. Excellent production, just enough commentary and background music, and a really cool bike. Normally I cringe when I see people putting modern parts on a vintage frame, but when I saw how hard you rode that thing it totally makes sense. Definitely earned a new subscriber here man. Love the sentiment at The end as well, I've been fixing up old '90s mountain bikes for years and you really summed it up perfectly.
@@forhealdan Thanks for the kind words! I had a blast building the bike, and tons of fun filming and editing. Really appreciate it. I’ve actually filmed a full follow up but I fear I’ve lost the plot a little on the purpose of the bike, so it’s on the creative back burner for now! Simple fun is best 👌🏻

So good bro! Thanks for this vidéo. I'm still rockin' my 93' Trek 8000...nothing but good vibes. It's like playing guitar, the tone is in your fingers.
Really enjoyed this, good riding, awesome resto-mod. I had a blast resto-modding a 1998 Trek Y22. (My dream bike back then). Best part of it was redoing the paint to the white 1997 style with red Trek decals. Turned out really nice and its fun to ride still.
Nice one, I love these old 90s MTBs, good to see you actually riding as it was intended, instead of turning it into a commuter, gravel or something tame, they are still capable bikes, I love my early 90s fully rigid MTB and ride the f*** out of it too
Cheers! I totally agree. Something about the simplicity can’t be beat. Every time I ride the Kona I have a huge smile on my face. Too many of these rad old bikes are hanging in garages collecting dust!

Great video, beautiful bike. I did something similar on a GT Terra once, with a chrome frame too. I didn't have a good experience with the 2.5 tires. When the rim is out of alignment, they hit the frame.

@@gusgrillo the stem in this video is still 70mm, which I don’t consider super short! I haven’t found it to be too twitchy, but I definitely prefer a higher bar as personal preference. I just find the taller front end more comfortable in general 👍🏻
Awesome video. These older bikes with modern short stem/wide bars ride awesome. Just did a similar build on a 1995 Trek 930. 1x10 Sram GX drivetrain, 63mm travel RS SID XC Fork, PNW Pine Dropper, and Deore/ Sun Rhino Lite wheels. Are you planning to get a dropper? I believe that Lava Dome has a 27.2 seatpost.
I’d love to do a dropper post for sure! The bike is flat 27.0mm seat post, but I imagine .2mm would be relatively easy to persuade with some light sanding!
Damn. Was gonna say "nice vintage rip" but I want to delete the vintage part. You're skill's probably made the biggest difference here, not the bike. And really nice editing. These videos look easy, but I bet this one took its time. 😎🤙
Awesome video! I like how you deliberately rode the heck out of that bike, as well as the variety of trails you rode. Keep up the content; have you ridden the Kona lately?

@@icantgivecredit871 I loved the Z2 at 65mm, the Z1 is awesome at 100. Unfortunately the Z1 is in much more rough condition than I’d hoped. The smaller travel Z2 is in perfect mechanical shape - almost feeling a little remorse in trading travel for performance! But that’s the way it goes when your playing with 25 year old suspension
Very good job. I have bought a 1992 Lava Dome and I’ll put modern components. it has a 26.4 seatpost but it feel very loose. Do you have the same size or it’s better putting a 26.6 seatpost?. Thanks.
Well, this frame is a 1992 Lava Dome and it uses a 27.0mm seat post. As far as I’m aware it has not been reamed or changed. Maybe double check yours isn’t actually 27.0
Thank you for the answer. My frame is a S size and I measure the inside tube of the frame and it’s 26.8. I think it’s probably the tube is thicker in larger sizes for reinforcement.
