  • Review of my 2014 Mercedes E63 AMG (S212) that I've owned for over 3 years.
It has a stage 1 remap by MSL performance and is running ~700bhp and ~1050nM. I have also had a Quaife ATB differential fitted to help put the power down, and the exhaust resonator deleted to get the true AMG soundtrack!

I remember going in a standard estate about 7-8 years ago thinking this is the perfect daily if you can afford the running cost that is

Yeah I think you're right there... Such a good all rounder. I don't think the running costs are TOO bad for the performance... Servicing is fairly standard, although some parts are a bit expensive. And obviously mpg could be better 🙂

Thanks for the upload. There's such few review videos on this model. I've got an S saloon and I was in the market for an estate s but couldn't find one. I've now had this car 3 years.
Do you think there is a remap for the throttle response, there's got to be i reckon. It's not turbo lag as you say.
I have an e93 m3 alongside this car and at a junction, the e93 has a huge delay in normal transmission settings, the e63 is much more responsive at a junction but I hear you about the lazy throttle response, sports plus mode is good. It's party trick is when I put my foot down a bit, it starts to give it power then downshifts which takes time then gives a lot more, not a fan so I just use the pedals to manually downshift. Coming from my 2018 c63s, that transmission was so fast, I van definitely feel the difference.
I had a 6.3l e63 w211 and it was around 514hp or something, lovely car. Had those dynamic seats with massaging option too. Gutted my w212 doesn't have that option or the distronic. I'm a big fan of the adaptive cruise, especially as I do 500+ miles in a day a few days a year. My s205 c63s had it and also steering pilot so it would corner itself on the motorway, but even keeping distance with the car in front is great.
In terms of power, I'd maybe change the intake or add sports cats but not looking for more power, it's got an iPE exhaust which is great. Car puts out over 560 wheel horsepower as stock so that's more than enough.
In terms of play, the esp settings are different in comfort, sport and sport plus and the play level increases in each setting. Sport handling mode and sport plus allows a lot of sideways action. Not as much as the c63s, that car was forever pointing 45 degrees in the wrong direction but the w212 feels a lot more stable and able to point in the right direction. Also the comfort levels are so good in the 212 compared to other fast cars , they've nailed it.
Hope you decide to keep yours but if you're selling, are you looking to replace it ?

@andyp8464 Thank you! Yes, I was amazed how few videos/reviews there are of this car.
I've asked a couple of well-known AMG tuners, and knowledgeable folk on the forums, and it seems there's no way to map out the throttle delay which is due to the drive by wire system - seems strange, and must be deliberate from Mercedes?!
You own(ed) some great cars! I actually run an E92 M3 alongside this E63 AMG for quite a while. How come you went from a W205 C63 S to the E63?
I hadn't actually realised that about the difference in the ESP with the different settings - thanks!
I'm still not quite sure if I will sell, but I don't need such a big car any longer. There are still a few cars I'd quite like to try - AMG GT-C, Nissan GT-R (R35) probably, but anything that's easy to get to 600bhp+ might be an option, even W205 C63 or W213 E63. I'll do some better videos on this E63 soon though!

@Rich_Runs_Cars thanks for the reply mate. Yeah I definitely think this model is a hidden gem that most people don't even know exists.
Re the c63s that was a bit premature of me to get rid of that one, i bought it from new.. I used to have it as my main car and then a bmw 330 then e46 m3 for a while as my "commuter"to keep its mileage down.. Having a young child I got fed up of the 2 doors and bought an e63 w211 as my commuter which was quite a car. Then came lockdowns and I had 2 cars, I had stopped working for a few months and then was consulting so decided to let the c63s go after 3 years (big mistake) , the c63s was the most fun car I've driven, I remember doing a driving experience with a Nissan GTR, maclaren, ferrari, Aston Martin and then went back into the C and it made me smile a lot more at what an entertaining and crazy car it was. Had a lot more theatre and craziness.
So once the C left I had the E and it started giving me little issues here and there (to be fair they were so minor i should have kept it, it was rare and only 50k on the clock) and then just out of the blue I found a 1 owner w212 e63s with 16k miles and I snapped it up. Last year I got a lovely 645 v8 NA convertible which was a joy , such an underrated car , but given I'm a nut, I didn't want to keep putting money into it , so I swapped it for an e93 m3 (wanted a convertible) , I liked how loud the m3 is. It's not a great daily but it's a special car too. The sound with the roof down... ofcourse if I could get a 205 c63xs convertible , that would be my ideal car but the prices are well north of 35k which is crazy.
How are you finding the e92 ? Do a video on that one sir !
Oh and I found out about the esp on mb world brooklands driving experiences, and the same principles apply to the 212, the back end will slip a lot in sport plus but not comfort etc I used to always drive the 212 in sport plus and sport handling in the wet to try and bring back the fun my c63 used to give me but that car loves to completely point in the wrong direction and the E is a bit big and scary to try and drift
Amg gt C is definitely an aspirational car for me. It's high up on the list as is a s213 e63s , I almost bought one a few times.

@andyp8464 Very interesting to hear what you say about the C63s being the most fun, especially as MacLaren is on my bucket list! AMGs definitely take some beating for fun factor.
I actually sold my E92 M3 last year. Loved the handling, especially compared to the much heavier E63 AMG. And the engine is great fun when it gets screaming over 8k rpm. But you really need to work the engine to get the most out of the car, otherwise it feels a little sluggish - perhaps I just prefer forced induction...
Yes, I hope to own an AMG GT-C some time as well.....it sounds as thought you've already ticked a lot of car ownership boxes!

@Rich_Runs_Cars the GT C one day with panamerica grill but I'm not holding my breath it will happen anytime soon! Maclaren handles like a dream, it's superb . If I had the money I'd get one .. but alas ! Mrs just paid the architect to start planning the extension, my e63 may be sold very soon too so I might have to do a few videos to give that model some love

@andyp8464 I think we have very similar tastes! That's the only problem with nice cars...lots of money tied up in them. Good luck with the house - hope you managed to hang on to the E63 for a while yet. And definitely do some videos!

hey! how have these held up at high mileages? like 150k kms / 100k miles or so?

Hi - thanks for watching! I haven't seen that many VERY high mileage ones in the UK, but the few I've known over 100k miles have held up very well, with no major issues. As with any cars, regular servicing is key, but I don't think there are many major issues with them that are common.
