I am a teacher but to military kids overseas. Their attitude is very different in terms of kids in the US versus the kids I teach. The kids I teach - black or white have high expectations. I have not had a "I wanna be a rapper or sports person" in years. Aspirations black and white: Biochemist, lawyers, doctors, business owners. It's nurture and environment that makes a difference.

Why is it that if a group perpetuates a stereotype, they get mad about it. When they do and show other actions away from the stereotype, they are called out, saying you are not one of us. Which do they want, expanding your horizons or being the typical stereotype and getting mad at other people for pointing out the problems🤔😮

Everything about who we are as black people, as a black culture is learned behavior. Meaning that we teach this sort of negativity amongst ourselves. It’s passed on from generation to generation, from grandma and grandpa to child to grandchild and so on. We learn to express this negativity and black hate amongst ourselves.

I agree. I’m not black but have really only been friends with more black people then any other race so I’ve spent a lot of time sharing feelings with black friends, mostly girls, and some of the things they’ve told me they were taught by their own moms was heartbreaking. As a black man born to Jamaican parents, I've become sick of this crab mentality that has permeated the black community for years now. We've been taught (either by clueless celebrities and exploitive politicians) that black people aren't meant to succeed without aid, and the ones that do are vilified. We've become too used to thinking that we can't get ahead without help from the government or some whack ass movement, so when we actually see a black person have any kind of success, we have to pull them back down to our level. "If I'm not succeeding, then they can't either." It's disgusting.
I hate that shit. We talk all the time how we need to become autonomous and depend on ourselves and rise up for the sake of our community, only to be brought down by those same people. If it wasn't for the system telling them they can never make it, then we wouldn't think this way. It makes it that much harder for me to call my self a part of the black community; I'm even almost embarrassed by it.

I would love it if you would talk about the incident were two black boys from Las Vegas joyrided, stole a car and ran over a white sheriff that was on a bike because baby, that was so ghetto! Criticism about the black community should be completely valid! At the end of the day, if black people can criticize people of other races each and every single second, why shouldn't people of other races be allowed or have the right to hold us accountable for ghetto behaviors and terrible actions?! It's ridiculous, especially as a young person, who is a beliver in God and is more conservative or center-right. I've seen many of these things you're addressing from a spectator seat of sorts. I recall getting in an arguement in college because I hated the automatic "You're acting/speaking white" label thrown on black friends of mine who were more eloquent in speaking or not interested in stereotypical activites. Then when I stated that was hypocritical of them they spun it and said that I was being racist. I told them "I criticize PEOPLE....and it's always on their actions as an individual. The same way I choose my friends based on their character. Is that not the point?" They could NOT prove me wrong.

It’s always someone else’s fault or cause they were abused as kids or cause they’re poor but they never made a positive change to uplift themselves. I grew up learning what NOT to do in order not to turn out like them cause I wanted better for myself. I’m not better than anyone and I’m not perfect but I do wish more young people in the backwoods or ghettos would feel that way too. You are not your environment and you don’t have to stay down. I was born in the 1960s, the last of 7 siblings and I was the lightest skinned of them all. I loved r&b music, soul and funk, but I also liked pop music, jazz, blues, rock and classical. I read a lot and I wanted to be an architect. At the the age of 10, 11 my own family used to tell me that: "you think you're white". And it's shameful the crabs in a barrel attitude that prevades us because we're afraid of someone who has hopes and aspirations--how dare you have dreams, those are things for white people. I've never adopted that mentality because it's victim claiming. Believe it or not, our family doctor, who used to make housecalls in the community when needed, was a black woman from the Caribbean, Dr McCaskey. Did not love the woman because when it came time to get a needle in butt she would take out a strap to get my compliance. Lol. Such a role model for black people in Harlem. It fills me with so much satisfaction to see this kind of content. Growing up and throughout my adulthood, I had this same problem. Any criticism I had of the black community was deflected with "You're taking white people's side," and even when I pointed out that when white people did behave badly I would call them on it--which it doesn't actually happen often because the white people i've been around are fine and the ones who did step out of line they were quickly corrected and took my words with grace because i didn't scream at them--I was still told that I was trying to be white or get white acceptance or that it was my trauma. It really pissed me off and actually alienated me from black people.
It literally sent me further into non-black friendship and relationships and pushed me to a point of being traumatically uncomfortable around black people or forcing myself to code switch. I don't do that anymore, but i'm glad there are black people who are finally speaking out who have a platform to be heard.

In other words I suffered for a full second and didn't curse about it, I just buckled down and did my own thing. No tears, I'm confident and content. The only thing that made me question that was when he recently said on his show with Gayle King that he would hit black people who wore maga hats. Now the line itself is just Chuck being Chuck. But he was basically telling black people not to think for themselves. He also criticized the Democratic party for not keeping their promises, but again, to basically say "don't vote for Trump" is saying "don't vote Republican". So here we are 🤷🏻‍♀️ and I’m white, I’m sure some is different for black folks, but as a southerner having much family in poverty, I can relate. You mentioned Charles background. That's important, because I grew up 14 miles from where Emmett Till's body was dumped into the river. Saying that, I have done well for myself, nothing like Charles but well enough that I know it's possible to become unawaringly detached from every day issues in the black community. When you've not lived in the area for 40 years, you really base your opinions on second handed knowledge. I'm not saying that I disagree with Charles and I know that he still has friends in the community just as I have. When I go back home I'm actually shocked by things my old friends say. In fact, with the exception of two old friends, I don't feel welcomed in the community that I spent my childhood. So for me to say, I understand the community that I no longer know, not really. I'm sure Charles experience is much different because everyone knows him, but I'm sure he's shocked periodically by things in the black community that he wasn't aware of. Not pushing back, just a thought.

It’s statistically far easier to be a superstar in the NBA than becoming an astronaut. There are only 14 active American astronauts but almost 500 NBA players.

    • @daltonkay4142
      @daltonkay4142 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

False equivalence is stupid. Also, idk where you got your numbers, but there’s 48 active astronauts. Either way, being a doctor is about 2,000 times easier than being in the NBA. To put it in perspective, if you look at a crowd of 1 million completely random people, about 300,000 would be doctors, about 150 would be NBA players, about 14 would be astronauts (by my count), about 4 would be astronauts (by your count), and you’d have a 1 in 333 chance to possibly see the president.

Hey girl as a fellow Bahamian I am so proud of you I love how you elevate your platform just please don't forget to continue highlighting a little of our culture on your Channel. But baabbbby me and you can have to fight call Shannon cuz one of us sweethearting him LOL. But I totally agree with this even though I don't always agree with Charles he has said some off the wall stuff as well and was not called out on it. I am subscribed to so many TH-cam channels and I love the black channels that corrects our people not because I am black means I'm going to agree with nonsense let's call a spade a spade. But girl keep doing what you doing I see you well on your way to 100 K congratulations from Freeport Bahamas 🇧🇸.
Side note: Have you ever tried reacting to some of the paranormal youtube channels? I would love to see your Bahamian reaction to them cuz you know we funny Af 😂. Or you too scary? 😏

I'm just like you...there are many things that Charles says that I disagree with (you know he is run out sometimes), but I appreciate his candor and fearlessness. I love my people, but I am not gonna remain silent when I see us doing foolishness. Thank you for subscribing. And we can share Shannon. He outside right now changing my car brakes, but I ga slip ya number. LOLOL.
Paranormal TH-cam channels? I have to check them out...but no, gyal...Ine scared. I love horrors and things like that. But, for me to react to them they would have to be a good fit with what I'm doing on my channel...if not, people would be like, what this gyal talking about? Thanks, Meeks!!

@@ThisBahamianGyal Thanks for replying. Na you know we en sharing cuz someone head en good in the equation lol. But yeah I found you either late last year or early this year can't remember. But yeah the paranormal reactions are big on TH-cam, there's always an audience for it, the algorithm love it too.I think you can squeeze it in because you cover alot of topics. Alot reactions are from tictok, then there are some other TH-cam channels, like Slapped Ham, Nukes top 5, King frostmare I think it's called to name a few. You can check them out on your free time to see if it's something you'd like to try. I'm scary but like scary tings...chile I gat a problem lol. Nevertheless I will always support your Channel.

Black culture is taught to demean andBe little people that are doing better than you areChange comes from within we have to start calling out our own that's how it changes

I think Vance is wrong to try and diminish what that Lady's said she experienced. Also, Charles Barkley was not overstating his opinion on this issue about the community. Anytime some of us address a negative truth about our community, there is a lot of dissension and condemnation against that person who is making an observation, or trying to educate, or simply share an experience. I think the greater thinking minds of our community are just going to have to rise above the name calling (from some in our community), and try to keep moving forward. By the way, I love your channel. Keep posting these types of videos for everyone's awareness!

I don't particularly like Van, however, he can be correct and so can the woman. Here's the thing, I was born in the 1950's and based on my own experience, Mr. Barkley would be absolutely 100% correct as the woman on the panel. She knows it, Van knows it, you and I know it, every single black person knows it. White people know it and I'm about sick of caveats!
