For anybody wondering why the bosses don't turn around to face Sonic, the Master System didn't have hardware sprite-flipping (like every other console), so an additional copy of the graphics needed to be in VRAM, chewing up tons of valuable ROM space. ROM chips were still pretty expensive in the 90s, so they wisely chose to make them face forwards only.
@Angel-DJ-Gaming For any sprites that do need to flip, additional pre-flipped copies of the sprite are copied from ROM into VRAM. It wastes a ton of space, which isn't great for an 8-bit machine. I'm not sure if any Master System games had compressed graphics like on the Mega Drive, though...
@@Icelink256 Idk, maybe Sonic 2 8-bit's autodemo or the title cards. And the fact that the flip wasted a lot of space explains why Sonic Chaos is so easy and so short.

I've noticed that the 'ring total' goes off the screen when fighting a boss. Does that mean that its the same as in the first 2 Master System games where 1 hit equals instant death or are you protected from a hit if you have already collected rings?
Wow... the tree crawler had a completely different stage design on MS... there's actual hazards... Also it really smacks me that at the end of this game Sonic The Hedgehog gets outrun on foot by Dr Robotnik... like... c'mon man....
The plot is easy Robotnik: finally a have for the first time ever my first emerald Sonic: you can't take that Robotnik: reasons blue pin cushion Tails: well without that emerald south island will sink into the ocean Robotnik: welll is not my problem but easy to exterminate you blue rodent! Mwah, ha, ha

No, you still have your rings. The ring count and the other stuff scroll to the left for a better view or to be dramatic.
Better than Sonic 2 8 bit where there no rings at all in boss act. Meaning you will die in one hit so you have to play extra careful
