Blown away by the amount of comments not understanding how important rings are in this game. You need 100 to get to the special stage, so collecting rings is important. Watching this longplay I was reliving the anxiety of getting that last ring I needed, laughing at the sound glitches, the thrill when you actually get to go fast, etc. This game is getting a fan remake, but looking at the gameplay it's missing a few core elements. Welcome all the Brazilians in the comments. You guys loved the Master System and that makes me love you. But you know who else did? Us Australians. It’s not like the NES failed here either. Both systems had massive support here. But due to the $99 Master System II, Sega easily came out on top. The day I got the SMS2 for Christmas was my best childhood Christmas ever.

after Sonic rescued Tails from Sonic 2, Tails is now a playable character. Sonic Chaos is similar to Sonic the hedgehog 2 mega drive version + the running ability if you hold up + action button. if you choose Sonic is more of a challenge when you try to take all 6 chaos emeralds and get the good ending

Out of the 8-bit Sonics I think this is the one that best matches the 16 bit games' level of speed and adrenaline. The only major problem is how short the levels are, just as you get momentum, Sonic Has Passed.
This is, in my book, the easiest Master System game to play. If Sonic is chosen, you have to collect all the Emeralds. (Not so easy.) If Tails is chosen, you don't have any Emeralds to collect. (Too easy, but no proper ending.) I always play with Tails. Each Zone is fairly easy to play through. However, you have to watch your step in the Second Act of the Electric Egg Zone. Otherwise it's all easy-peasy.
Here's a hint to get 999 km/h: Finish the act before 24 seconds with 10 rings. You'll get 999 km/h and a extra live. This trick wont work in some stages, like Gigalopolis act 1 and 2, and Tecno Green Hill Act 1 and 2.
This is my favorite sonic 8-bit. It has tails' with his flying and sonic with his super peel out. And the levels & special stages (100 rings) are fun to play with
Ah the best 8-bit sonic game IMO. It introduced the spindash to the 8-bit games, tails is playable and you can fly as him, not to mention the strike dash was introduced as well and finally this game has the best sound track from all the 8-bit Sonic games too. I have yet to finish the game with all the chaos emeralds though... Now days I find myself hacking this game more than playing it anyways though. xD
Actually the "Strike Dash" was based on the "Super Peel-Out" from Sonic CD, which was debuted on the Sega CD prior to the release of Sonic Chaos (which is actually not the real name; This game was originally called "Sonic and Tails" in Japan, but changed to Sonic Chaos for the American market).
My favourite 8 bit Sonic game is Pocket Adventure or as I sometimes call it, Sonic Advance 0, which feels like a transition game between the end of Sonic Mania (Encore Mode, post classic Sonic in Forces) and Sonic Adventure (1998).
The title screen for this particular version of the game gives me sonic 3 vibes not sure why but it just does Also can we appreciate how beautiful this game's soundtrack is I love how these handheld sonic games had very uquinqe tracks for their soundtracks it's small details like that I turly appreciate

I think the SMS' real life was in the MD's time as a budget alternative, that's when all the good games based on what were originally mega drive games came like sonics and SoR. By that time it was already discontinued in the US.
This is probably true. The Master System II was the big hit here in Australia (early 90s) and it seems every second kid got one the same Christmas, likely due to the $99 price point. At that time, I barely knew anyone with a Mega Drive, but the amount of kids I could swap Master System tips and games with felt limitless. Smurfs 2, The: Travel the World was released in 1996 in Europe. But by then Sega had discontinued support for everything before the Saturn. The Megadrive/Genesis got Fifa 98 as it's last game in Europe because EA always seem to throw out a few sports games long after everyone's moved on.
I like how in the aqua planet boss in the the game gear version the ring and invincibility boxes are switched so the invincibility is just useless because it doesn't last long enough to get to the boss....
Hero of Hyrule I highly doubt that. There's no way anyone would place collectible items so sprawled out across a map and expect players to collect every single one of them to get 100%. I'm pretty sure it's just a point bonus, because Sonic 2 also has a Perfect bonus for collecting every ring but you don't need those for 100%.
@@deadbobomb6445 true, it could be the SMS but, having watched various videos about the making of games and consoles, it seems some developers didn't always make best use of the hardware. I don't think Chaos was made by the same team that made Sonic 1 and 2 for the SMS, though I could be wrong... what I mean is it may or may not be the SMS itself at fault. See how slowly Sonic Spinball on the MD/Genesis plays versus Sonic 1/2/3/S&K as an example... Spinball was made by a different developer.

The good ending. And there's 5 emeralds because there was no 7th emerald discovered at that point in the story (even though Sonic 2 (16-bit) had 7 Chaos Emeralds), and Eggman carries the sixth, which you can get from the final boss.
(randomly responding to a 2-year old comment, aheh) A sort-of glitch, I think. Sonic entered the boss arena with invincibility, the boss music overrode the invincibility music, then when the invincibility ran out, it changed back to the normal level music. I'm guessing the invincibility powerup is coded to switch tracks when it's picked up, then return to the interrupted track when it ends, rather than check for what track *should* be playing when it ends. (It sounds like it would make programming a little easier, so...)
this game's enemies, soundtrack, and power ups remind me of another sonic game. I believe it was also for the game gear. Does anyone know the name of it?
The elecric egg bosses on the game gear (meaning that the screen has a far worse resolution and is cut out in wigth and height)... my god childhood nightmare
I had this when I was like 8 years old and for some reason it never felt like a genuine sonic game. Was it made by different developers? Like was I that intuitive at 8 years old ? lol
Aspect developed almost every 8 bit Sonic platformer, except for Sonic 1, which was handled by Ancient. All of these games definitely felt different from the Genesis titles.
graphically, this is hands down the best looking 8-bit sonic ever. Tails sprites are simply amazing, feels like 16-bit.
When I was 4-5 I thought the Master System games where the only sonic games. They even had sonic spinball ported onto it lol
Most likely due to the fact this game came so late in the Master System's lifespan, in 1993. Genesis was active at that point.

@@prinnywizzard9608AND IN THE GAME GEAR VERSION?
12:55 this boss return in Sonic mania.
yes
Mirage Saloon Act 1
This boss doesn't belong to Sonic Mania.
Open your eyes. Can't you see both colors and the design are different?
durece100 well, the difference is that in mania its not ground but water??
this game's enemies, soundtrack, and power ups remind me of another sonic game. I believe it was also for the game gear. Does anyone know the name of it?
faithfully goth Sonic Triple Trouble?
Sonic Triple Trouble or Sonic 2 8-bit i think.
Joguei muito! finalizei várias vezes com o Sonic, e algumas com o Tails.
Parabéns, sabe muito é tudo 💪.
The elecric egg bosses on the game gear (meaning that the screen has a far worse resolution and is cut out in wigth and height)... my god childhood nightmare
sonic "xaus" , eu tinha a fita e curtia bastante
Esse jogo foi lançado pro game gear, com algumas diferenças da versão de Master system.
I saw it on friv the other day and now its on my rexommended
@ItsSoMe2011 The best is to have the Game Gear version where you have all these tunes in stereo!
I'm so hoping the remasterd Sonic Chaos mod for Mania doesn't get cancelled.
What's really strange is this is like inbetween NES graphics and SNES graphics, it's like someone smashed them together...just weird.
now THIS is the most obscure sonic game
Sonic Chaos isn't the most obscure one.
It's pretty well-known in Europe and especially in Brazil.
Im American and i loved this game
I had this when I was like 8 years old and for some reason it never felt like a genuine sonic game. Was it made by different developers? Like was I that intuitive at 8 years old ? lol
Aspect developed almost every 8 bit Sonic platformer, except for Sonic 1, which was handled by Ancient. All of these games definitely felt different from the Genesis titles.
