The law certainly makes us more aware of our sin and therefore we have more knowledge of it. BTW the book John Piper recommended is 40 Questions about Christians and Biblical Law by Thomas R. Schreiner
Amen John. We are not subject to the law, as we are now servants of Christ. Praise The Lord for setting us free from bondage to sin, for sending HIS only begotten SON to die for the whole earth. God bless you all.
Very good teaching with lots of relevant Scripture references. John Piper said that in Rom 10:4 Christ is said to be 'the goal of the law'. Most English translations have 'the end of the law'. There is debate about whether this verse is saying that Christ is the goal towards which the law of Moses was directed or whether with Christ the time of the law of Moses being in operation has ceased. I think the verse may well be saying both these things. I like the NIV and ISV translations of this verse, 'the culmination of the law', which suggests both a cessation and a goal. Regardless of how we translate Rom 10:4, we should understand Christ to be the goal towards which the law was directed, AND we should understand that the law of Moses is no longer in force, having been superseded by the law of Christ (1 Cor 9:21; Gal 6:2).
The law is designed to expose the nature of sin.....sin being judgement of the creation. Those who attempt to “keep” the law are under the curse of the judgements that the law requires. Example....someone who doesn’t use tobacco, drink alcohol, cuss, etc.etc. will judge others according to their own “non participation”. That is poor judgement. Now the very thing that was meant for good has become a curse. Attempting to comply with law is a dangerous and foolish game. The fact is...habits, the use of slang, bad attitudes, jealousy, rage, lust, greed, etc. etc. are not “the” sin. Those are merely manifestations of sin. Discover what the motive is that gives these things power and appeal and you’ve discovered the true sin. Remember....deadly sin isn’t something you do, deadly sin is what one believes.
James 1:13-15 tells us HOW to sin. Definitions are useless without a manifested reality. Temptation...conception.... maturation. Without all three there is no sin. We all know that for every temptation God makes a way of escape. Why would anyone who seeks for real truth allow any temptation to conceive and mature?
Roman's 7:21.. I find then a "LAW".. that evil is present with me (catch this with me).. the one who wills to do good Without omniscience (knowing everything all the time) we are incapacitated and were never originally designed to know good and evil the law came with the tree and was simply the death of self
I still try to wrap my head around all this.. sin seems to be dormant without the law. The law is basically just a guide of right versus wrong, universal divine truths. So now knowing what is right versus wrong, that actual knowledge of this activates sin, sort of in the same way a child will do something bad because he is told not to do it. Is Satan responsible for all this? Did he put this into motion by causing Adam and Eve to have knowledge of good and evil? I ask all this while I was reading Romans. And every time I do it makes me ask why was the law put out there if it activates that sin within us? But… this can’t be true because the Jews were already disobeying and sinning before Mosiac Law. But did it make the sinning worse? I’m confused by what Paul is saying because he makes it sound like sin is hibernating while the law doesn’t exist.. I’m sort of rambling I guess but I figure why not start another new discussion..lol.. now my thoughts about all this become mostly void with Jesus redemptive power, but I’m trying to think of origins and the “why” of what makes us tic. Romans 7-9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. It’s the “revived” part that sent my mind wandering
Light always casts a shadow.... light and darkness- if there is darkness, there is light. And vice versa- this is how it will always be till God does away with Darkness. If he wants. This also reminds me of God first commandment. Do not eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of Good and evil .that God made and put in the garden along with the tree of life . And then came along the snake/aka Lucifer/the devil..to lie and tempt .
@Desire Of All Nations "Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another-to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter". Romans 7:4-6
@Desire Of All Nations "For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. The Law reveals His character and nature so yes what is perfect is pleasing to Him we cannot be perfect so we needed Jesus and it pleases Him to give Christ for us so Jesus perfection would be our own
@@Izthefaithful ok.. got it. So the seventh day Sabbath as given to Moses by God's own voice and written with the "finger" of God on tablets of stone, keeping that is pleasing to God?
Leslie Mathewson Well the Sabbath, and it’s rest, is now found in Christ, so of course it’s still pleasing to him that we find rest in his son today. The Sabbath wasn’t abolished but fulfilled in Christ.
The law certainly makes us more aware of our sin and therefore we have more knowledge of it.

No. We are just more aware of our sin.
Their is sin and their is SIN
Of course it does, thats why we no longer follow or uphold the law.
