First mistake here is that the Bible does not say that every human is made in God's image...it speaks only of Adam, or maybe Eve too....b/c by Genesis 5, humans were now made in their own image. ....second of all, there were the sins of bodily corruption such as leprosy -- which was not a sin against other humans at all....3rd mistake is suggesting that Pharoah did not realize his sins against the Hebrew people -- but he sure understood his edict to decimate their newborn boys...etc, etc, etc, etc....
I think by far the best possible explanation . Explained the complex word in such simple way. When Jesus said Love God and your neighbor I think this is what he ment. I don't get it that time . The explanation gives new insights to all verses now. God bless you Guys
Hi Bible project, thanks for the great job you guys are doing! I pray God gives you guys the Grace to do more. In my local assembly, I work with the media team. I would like to create videos like this to promote biblical doctrinal content. I was wondering if you guys are offering training programs to teach people how to create these videos?
Awesome! Just want to correct some verse about Joseph sinning against God. It’s in Genesis 39:9 not in Genesis 37:9.😊 God bless your Bibleproject! 2:02
"Sin is about more than just doing bad things. It describes how we easily deceive ourselves, spin illusions to redefine our bad decisions as good ones." -This explains so much. Thank you.
Yes, so when we text and drive, endangering others, we have failed, and have sinned. We are not respecting human life and we humans are to respect life and we fall.short.
So it's ok to text and drive and keep doing it? If you hit somebody and harm.somebody because of it, is it not then a.sin? Now if nothing happens, it looks like an innocent compulsion but is reckless. My point is that something innocent because you have not hurt anybody. is a sign of recklessness at least. Is recklessness a characteristic that something that a human being made in the image of God should embrace? Is not recklessness just as bad as being pompous or something like that?
@@eeviray lol, I never said hitting people is ok. By your standards eating a cheeseburger while driving is a sin too. Maybe find Christ instead of making sins up.
Dear Bible Project, Though I am not myself a Christian, I recently started feeling curious about the Bible as a historical artefact. I went down to my local church and I was very direct about it... I just told the pastor that I was there to learn about the Bible and everyone was very welcoming! Anyway, as of about a month ago, I've been listening to your podcasts and watching your videos, and you are just amazing at what you do! I don't think I'm an unimaginative person, but I don't think I can actually imagine a better study supplement than the one you provide... basically for free! Which I really appreciate because I really do not have much money right now! But I can thank you, at least! Thank you so much! And Merry Christmas!
YOO im glad youre learning more about the bible, thats how i became a christian. Theres so much evidence that the bible is real. You should listen to Dan Mohler hes really helpful 💯💯
God bless brother. There are some deep spiritual truths to be found in the Bible. When I first read it I was astonished how much of what it talks about I had experienced in my own spiritual and emotional life. Dig deep and you may find yourself cultivating a relationship with that which is inside of you. A knowing with your body not only your mind. I encourage you, even if not a self professed Christian, or even if you don’t believe in God, to start a regular prayer and meditation practice. It will be the cracking open of the door on which God knocks.
Very interesting! I hope you find answers to your questions and keep on asking them and God will give u the wisdom’s and answers! God bless and keep safe
Every day…I spin my delusions of sin, trying to communicate with God, trying to live within His will, not the will of flesh. I fail miserably. I thank my Lord and Savior, who was crucified/punished for my sins, not His own, who was resurrected to be the King of the Kingdom of Heaven. It was enough. So, I keep talking, trying, praying, wishing for things within His will. He’s mighty nice to me and my family. Thank you Bible Project. You continue to talk to me, guide me. I’m listening. Greetings from East Tennessee.
Read Romans 6, 7 and 8 and ask God for true understanding! This way of living you describe is, though very common, FAR from what is 'normal' for Gods people. The Lord came to deliver us from sin, not just the consequences. All the best!
Say this prayer Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord qqq
I believe sin is because of pride usually. Pharaoh thinks of himself as more important than justice or kindness matters, so he turns a blind eye to their sufferings. Sin is more like when people are too arrogant to acknowledge their terribleness in flesh, and choose to think the good stuff are from them and not from God Yahweh, so they transgress God's law..
JUDAH RISE simple they said sin is missing a set goal or mark but in the biblical sense it’s simply missing God’s set mark or goal and that is to be a living sacrifice unto the Lord
JUDAH RISE is not to be a living sacrifice is to be loving to God and thy neighbor? For love covers a multitude of sins, sin which is against God's law. Thus you will not break his law because of love.
“the inability to accurately judge if we are failing or succeeding.” wow. that really resonates on so many levels. such depth to this word of which i wasn’t even aware…
Right... I think we should all learn about the mythological bible by reading it ourselves instead of listening to someone explain what it says by virtue ( or lack thereof ) of their own subjective interpretation of the primitive desert desert dwelling mythologies of the past that contradict each other are full of outright lies and are completely historically inaccurate.
Hamartia, one of the first Greek words I learned in Bible college. 🙂 I like how the Greek word and the Hebrew word both have the same basic idea, that of missing a target, something you're aiming at (or supposed to be aiming at, anyway; sometimes our "sin" is aiming at the wrong target!). This is a good resource. When speaking to non-Christians, I try to stay away from "church" words (or "Christianese"), such as "sin" and "repent" and "iniquity", and instead explain things in words and ideas they would be familiar with (much like your videos are doing). It doesn't help to try to give someone a message if they don't understand the language you're giving it in. So it helps knowing what the "church" words actually mean and where they come from.
These videos helped me understand this religon more. I had a very surface level understanding of it. But now...i feel like Its way more clear and It fills me with joy to understand them.
For beginners, yes, we need to explain in ways they can understand. When they start studying for themselves, then we can help them understand better, if we have a connection with the Holy Spirit.
Words have meaning and people choosing not to understand their meaning shows their unwillingness to learn. The fact that these words have been around for thousands of years yet are still misunderstood shows how long people willingly choose to keep themselves ignorant of what is truly meaningful
*There was an error at 2:00. The verse is supposed to read Genesis 39:9, not 37:9. Sorry about that. :/ Thank you to all of our supporters for pointing that out!
The Bible Project I don't really understand what you guys are trying to portray with the example of Joseph. It seems out of place to me. Could you guys explain this further?
ManPlan I think they meant that Joseph felt that if he slept with her, he would be dishonoring both her and her husband. The image of him taking her hand shows the sin. But I kinda get what u mean.
Hi ManPlan, could you rephrase your question? We are trying to portray the decision Joseph had to make when Potiphar's wife asked him to sleep with her! He had the choice but to listen to God, or listen to Potiphar's wife desired to sleep with him. One would be turning toward sin, the other towards God!
The Bible Project Random question but I was curious if/when you guys were going to record more “story” podcast episodes (like “friend of sinners” and “god and money”)? I’m a huge fan of all your content and have been a monthly supporter for a while, but recently stumbled upon these “story” podcast episodes you recorded a while back and thought they were fantastic!! I’m mad at myself for not finding them earlier... I heard John mention “let us know if you like this new ‘story’ format” in one of them, then noticed you stopped doing them..so I just wanted to provide my somewhat late feedback and say I love them and hope you do more! Thanks for all that you do! Jim Ps-My comments aren’t posting on apples podcast app for some reason, so apologies for randomly bringing it up in comments to this video (which I also thought was great!)
ManPlan. The illustration of Joseph giving in to Potiphars wife is just inside his head when he is analyzing that it is sinful to give in to Potiphars wife.
Sin: A failure to love God & humans created in His image, by not treating them with the honor they deserve. Very powerful clear definition to re-frame this word in. Thank you 🙏🏾
@@Mrmusha53 the name yhwh is pagan god name connected to star god which is connected to symbol of Israel flag. God actual name is (I,am) also Jesus isn't sun god. you should do research before acting all knowing.
If we still sin after salvation, then what would that entail for us? Are we truly even saved? We will always fall short. The leasr we can do is to put our trust in Jesus and strive daily to be like him. We always fall short on one aspect tbh...
That's really good, guys! Not just the animation, but the message! Easy even for kids to understand, but robust enough for adults not to feel condescend to. Well done team!
Malcolm Smith defines 'sin' as 'living independently of God' , as if we are our own god . Not recognizing we are created beings and we get our life from Another . Going our own way regardless . 🆓🇬🇧✝️
Here's a good way to explain 'sin' with one word... imperfection. Problem is this, for centuries people have been taught that sin is something people do and they think no further on the subject. Think about this though... what is the very nature of the material universe? Do things constantly change? Of course... trees grow and die, oceans absorb coastlines, some animals eat other animals, clouds form then disappear, etc. etc. everything changes on a daily basis. Imperfection = change. Consider this ... IF there is a creator and that being created US, material beings in a material universe, then the universe was created with inherent imperfection[s]. In other words everything, even us was created with sin/imperfection. It is our very nature to be imperfect and we could be nothing else. An elephant can't be a cat because 'elephant' is that animals very nature. The most disturbing part though is this... assuming god created us as imperfect beings and due to our imperfection Adam and Eve, being imperfect, were bound sooner or later to disobey god. They couldn't help it due to their imperfection. And then... god punishes them [and all humankind] for all eternity for being something god created. I can't speak for you but that seems like a dirty trick, or being 'set up' [as in law]. That doesn't sound like a benevolent deity to me. It would be cruel for a creator to make something imperfect and than punish its creation for being imperfect.
@@SOMAnxg I hear where you are coming from, but I want to clarify and see if we are on the same page about the creation account as seen in Genesis? I’m a newer believer so forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but if I understand correctly, God created everything good. No sin or death was present in the garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise. No sin was found in Adam and Eve. They did have free will tho, and with this free will, they chose to disobey God (after the influence of the serpent). With this understanding, it seems to me that God set everything up fairly. It would be unfair to not have a choice about obeying God.
@@Isaac-we2ks You assume too much. What you assume is what you want. But what people want isn't necessarily 'true'. For example you're assuming the Garden of Eden was an actual place. You should be aware all of that is fable and not fact. One example it's not 'true' is ... let's start with the notion of an omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent supernatural god. Next... it is claimed that god created the 'heavens and the earth". If one were to assume that were true, then why wouldn't god know that using 'matter' as a means of creation automatically and naturally makes those things created imperfect? Before even a thought entered their heads. It is the very nature of matter to be imperfect. "Perfection" from philosophical and theological worldview implies that something is so perfect, to change it in anyway would make a perfect thing imperfect. Ok... what's the very nature of 'nature"? The world surrounding all of us changes second by second, minute by minute, day by day, etc. What does that imply? It implies that matter by its very nature is imperfect. Matter can't exist in any other way because it is governed by the physical laws. Thus, assuming Adam and Eve were created as physical beings, they were imperfect from the very instant of their creation. An all knowing god should've known that. And if god should've known that why would a creator expect them to act perfectly? It's against their very nature. Then punish them for being imperfect? What kind of reasonable parent would do that to a child of theirs?
@@SOMAnxg I know it's been three months, but I'm going to answer you anyway: I think you assume too much (to borrow your turn of phrase). You assume that God created matter imperfectly, but there were no imperfections before sin. The very nature of the world changed after sin entered it. For example, before sin there was no death, no thorns, no physical pain, and no rain (instead there was a layer of dew over the earth). God knew that Adam and Eve were going to sin, but He gave them the option to eat from the tree because He knew that they had the ability to resist temptation even if they chose not to (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Sin is simply anything that separates us from God. Sin isn't simply, well, sinful because God forbids it - it is sinful because the act inherently separates us from the Lord, the Giver of Life.
To add on to that, it is not the sin itself that separates us from God. We can't be separated from God, whether we like it or not; He is omnipresent. However, we RUN AWAY from Him because when we sin, we feel guilt and shame from not being able to live up to God's moral perfection. Take, for example, Adam and Eve: what was the first thing they did after they realized their sin? They hid. Was God any farther from them than before? No. In fact, God was the first to reach out to them and ask, "where did you go?" He certainly was aware of their sin, and He certainly knew where they were hiding (He's an omniscient God), so what's His deal here? He pursued them because they ran away in fear of guilt and judgement. As long as the Law is in effect, humanity would be condemned to a religious mindset and continue to distance itself from God. The Good News is that Jesus came so that we could enjoy a full union with God--so that we can run toward Him in full assurance of His love and acceptance instead of running away in fear and shame. The Good News is that God is for us and not against us. The Good News is that God is good and He actually loves us. What kind of parent wants his children to get hurt? When we sin, it's less about "hurting" God, as if God can't handle our sin or as if it will upset Him. The reason God hates sin is because sin destroys His children--it harms them. A loving Father would never want His children to suffer. God created the world, and He knows what is best for us. When He says "don't sin", it's for our benefit, as a good Father only wants the best for His children. Remember: God created Adam and Eve to simply enjoy life with Him in Eden; that has been His desire since the beginning. Sin destroyed that, but Jesus, in turn, destroyed sin and death so that we can once again be fully reconciled to God and enjoy fellowship with Him now and forever in the new Eden.
Great comment! In fact, in Eastern Christianity, running away from omnipresent God is precisely what hell is - you being in the presence of All Loving God Whom you hate.
+Bible Illustrated No, because sinning is utter hell to deal with. Sin, at its very core, is human effort. (I know the video doesn't quite say that, but they didn't go deep enough). To miss the mark is this: to get life by your works instead of believing on God.
I am a sinner. It is my way to get what I want and ignore the cost to myself or others. And every time I successfully give others what they need before I get what I want then I die to myself and live for Him. Progress not perfection, yes? Keep making your videos because I need reminders every day. Peace!
I would put forth this; Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words don’t translate easily, have a multitude of possible translations and that was intentional. This provokes discussion and deeper study which if done with an open mind gives a greater understanding.
@@jeffalexander195 intentional by who? If you mean something like the council of Nicea where the Bible was edited by the Romans to better control the people then yes. The development of differing languages is a natural consequence of separated societies.
man i've always watched these videos and thought, "wow, how in-depth and insightful" but i've always taken for granted how insanely creative the artwork and animation and color scheming is! it's so ridiculous how creative these videos are on an artistic level. whoever you are that works on the art for these videos, hats off to you! and thank you bible project for another great vid.
"Being made to God's image" never made so much sense, very well explained, as always. May the Lord bless you guys. Also realising you are getting old reminds me of how long I have been on this channel, and how much I have grown, physically and spiritually.
MagCavuquila some of the Jewish sages during the time of Jesus taught on this. In fact, the core of Jesus' message is that you love God by loving people, even the foreigner. Very important for understanding the teachings of Jesus
Unless you meditate, you are not obeying the gospel preached by Jesus and are far from him. Beware the leaven of these Pharisees. The religious dress the part and know nothing of the truth. With their lips they honor him but their hearts are FAR from him. “Why do you call me Lord Lord and do not the things that I say?” “Seek ye first the kingdom of God...” “The kingdom of God is within you...”. “Make the eye single and your whole body will fill with light”. How many of you can honestly say you have seen God “face-to-face”? As Jacob did in Genesis 32:30? How does it happen? In what place? It happens when one meditates and it takes place at the PINEAL gland of the brain! Arlen to your true nature.
Haunt Former can I ask you a question if you mind ? There it is: Why do you have a skull as profile picture (it's not a trap ^^, I just would like to know if it has a meaning for you) ?
Hey Jonathan! My TH-cam channel revolves around my annual haunted house and halloween. Skeletons can represent the basis of the life we are given, and God's complex nature, too. I don't support satanic things or anything like that. all in good fun as I say. have an awesome day Jonathan! thanks for asking! Oh, I also have a Christian based channel called the Glog should you wanna check it out
The topics discussed in this video, especially the self deception, have been weighing on me so heavily lately and you managed to explain it all within a few minutes. Thank you so much for making these videos they really help me a lot
I love the clarity on sin's originality as a non-religious word. It is SO that way now which is sad, bc the concept of sin has been so lost, which is devastating bc seeing sin in the mirror is such a common pathway to seeing the glory of God and the forgiveness of the cross. Thankful you guys made this video.
@@ChristinaFromTH-camfrom your logic, if you sinned and stop doing it you are forgiven? like how i stole something, got caught, went to jail and stopped stealing because i do not want to go to jail again.. thats repentance?
@@ChristinaFromTH-cam what if laws where changed and stealing is not a crime anymore? my point is, not doing something out of fear of punishment isnt repentance.
4:57 This. This is why I enjoy seeing where our English words our derived from. Even when you think you may know everything there is to do with God and the Bible, you are hit with something profound. If we were to take the original meaning of the word “sin” to be failure, we can look at 1 Peter 2:22-24 as such: “He committed no ‘failures’... yet he carried our ‘failures’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to our ‘failures’ and live to do what is right.” I’m excited that I was interested in looking up videos like the ones the Bible Project produces. They help put into perspective how great God is. Thanks for all you do. 🙂
Love it! I had this revelation about sin, living in us and how we actually have to die to it and feed the spirit of God. To die for our sin and to live to do what is right. So true this video totally hooks on this same concept. That's why repentance actually feels painful sometimes as part of us, our sinful nature, has to die, inside and spiritually speaking. And it's a process. Sometimes we still do what is wrong until our sinful nature has died completely. We can overcome 'the world'.
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do...
You guys, the content you guys are putting out is blessing and teaching so many people around the world. I personally am learning so much in the "words" series. Thanks for putting excellent content out there.
Yep but it's also blinded by mindset of pride(can't see why I'm wrong like that), turning a blind eye, Pharaoh didn't care about israel's sufferings because he cared about himself or things he liked more than israel's well being. Also by ignorance as well.
You do realize that all of this is based on man made mythology that is historically inaccurate and contains the outdated vile subjective morals of racist misogynistic primitives right?
These are thumbnail sketches that give a vague interpretation of scripture. As such they have many errors. The original Aramaic Hebrew scriptures to English paint a different and much clearer picture. Much more so than even the KJV for example. It all depends on if your interested in the truth.
@@Amelia-gh4ny obviously you are uneducated on the subject. how can you claim what is true and false about something you clearly know very little about?
I'm grateful for this little word study, because it actually helped me in a big way. Up till now, I always thought of transgressions and iniquity as just two other ways of saying the same thing, "sin". Thank you for showing the deeper more nuanced meaning of these three words. So much more meaningful and insightful than I had ever realized.
Bless you Jon and Pastor Tim. We love you guys so much! Thanks and praise and glory and honor to the one who conquered sin for all of us, King Jesus Christ!!! We love you Father God Almighty!!!! We love you Holy Spirit!!!! Now and forever JEHOVAH!!!!
Khata, Avon, Pasha Thank you for pursuing this project. I love how you are using a double entendre for this series; teaching us about the Bible's bad words, sin, iniquity and transgression. Khata Your work on the Khata project (and the NT equivalent Hamartia) is beautiful even though the subject matter is so grave. The image of sin as a roaring lion coming after Cain filled my imagination. You're team is so gifted at breaking ideas down into such elegant categories and then illustrating the implications of those ideas with immense creativity. Thanks! Avon I am very much looking forward to seeing the way you teach us about the OT word Avon (iniquity or crookedness) and the equivalent NT word epithumia (lust or inordinate desire). So much of our pain in life seems to come from this deep place in our hearts to have some false good satisfy us when, in fact, it is only the person of God that can fill our empty spaces. So, looking forward to the way you treat this word. Pasha I know that in places like Psalm 51:1-2 and Isaiah 59:12, we see the three sin words together: "For our transgressions (Pasha-rebellions) have been multiplied before Thee, and our sins (Khata-broken laws) have testified against us, for our transgressions are with us, and our iniquities (Avon-twisted desires) -- we have known them (Is 59)." So if Khata is missing the target, Pasha (rebellion or transgression) seems to be a willful rebellion that includes going after the wrong target. I am eager to see if the NT equivalent is the Greek word Parabasis, a word we see in places like Romans 5:14 as violation. Can't wait to see this project in its fullness. You all are doing AMAZING work to bring about the Kingdom of God through providing clear and illustrative teaching of God's Holy Word.
I like how you incorporate the snake (Satan) in the middle and the very end frame, to remind us who is behind our temptation to sin. Great video and explanation!
Devon Peebles hey Devon, I also learned that growing up, but at some point I realised (and if I'm not mistaken Tim even mentioned it in one podcast) no where in the Bible do we see that God was pleased with Jesus' suffering. When I look to that way of thinking (that again, was my own) I sent a perverse God. Is that too say that God doesn't care about soon? No. (Again, if my memory doesn't fall me) Tim mentions in this past episode that the punishment for sim doesn't come from God's sadism, but rather is a consequence of the act and of God's Holiness not leaving room for evil near Him. Does it make sense?
One thing the they joseph failed to sleep the wife of another therefore failed to honor God by denying her of something, but that is so morally incorrect idk what to say about he says he sins against God by committing adultery as far as i know, not by denying her of sex so they or somebody needs to clear that up.
I'm just getting ready to finish up my first year of being a 6th grade CCD teacher. I've shown my class many of your videos this year. It's been an amazing help to me so thanks for that! 😊 ❤️ 🙏
You can give God a chance. Being a christian is one of the best things that has happened to me. I rest in the peace and joy of God now just because of my little faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus. It's the perfect place to be. I'm encouraging you to try it☺️.
These videos are terrific! They really help clear up some things in the Bible for me. Could you do a video explaining slavery in the Bible? It seems like the slavery-system in the OT was almost supposed to be...beneficial to the ones enslaved? A six year servitude for people fallen on hard times? Forced introduction to God and how Israel was supposed to live for Him for slaves made from conquered, pagan cultures? Could you please explain this? -Brandon
Growing up I was lied to about what sin includes. I came to this understanding on my own and before I returned to Jesus. It was as if God and Jesus were secretly helping me heal my trauma so I could return. Praise be. 🎉
Very important word, but LOVE covers multitude of sins. Its a delight to be on a journey throughout the Bible with you guys! The animation is so good, I cant admire it enough :) Thank you,God bless.
Thank you. I wish I could go to a congregation and hear sermons like this and have discussions with my congregation like this. My congregation can get stuck on “othering” and using modern definitions of biblical terms. The Bible Project and perspective has brought peace to my heart and learning to my mind. It has become my own worship. Thank you.
This teaching is a religion teaching from main stream Christianity theology dogma has nothing to do with what the Scriptures says about the matter. What is sin? (1 John 3:4 KJV) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law/torah: for sin is the transgression of the law/torah. Torah means Instructions not Law but has Laws in it big difference. (Romans 3:20 KJV) Therefore by the deeds of the law/torah there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law/torah is the knowledge of sin. (Romans 6:15 KJV) What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law/torah, but under grace? Elohim forbid.

I love what you do guys. I love the word and people and it has been a goal of mine throughout my life (58 now) to put the message of the Bible in the most simple way both to unbelievers and believers that misunderstood God and the Gospel. Sometimes i felt i succeeded at that sometimes i just wasn't as talented as you are. I am so grateful to God for you and for what you are putting together. I and sure it blesses the young but even people like me get very blessed. Thanks!
*The more reason to believe in God.* The history of mankind, we have defined good and evil for ourselves and deemed it absolute and good even though it is not even until today. People cannot accept a power greater than theirs and so we create our own laws, our own definition of Good and Evil. Only God knows the true good and evil. He knows the standard of Good and Evil. He will be the judge of us all. He will judge us for all our *Khata* against Him.
God has already judged. He didn't judge us, he judged the "prince of this world", which is satan. He already judged us. His verdict is that, sin is the culprit and not us.
Exactly. The standard set by man is faulty. So many people consider themselves "good." When we define good/evil by human standards, the line will always be murky. The standard will forever change. Only God's standard is consistent.
chigasaki06 I completely agree , and I think its very important that you mention God judgement and what is right and wrong in God sight, and how people try to deem themselves worthy and by doing so they make themselves their own God because they're undermining the law of God therefore making him less than God . Ive always been very cautious of people who dont keep God word and dont acknowledge God as their lords and they tend to think they're good people but in the end everybody has fallen short of the glory of God. I know that Jesus died for my sin and that i am forgiven through grace and because of that i am free from death and bondage but I also do believe that I will be held accountable for the things that I have done , the bible mention the judgement in Revelations 20:12-13.. I also think that we as Christians are to be held more accountable for our actions because we know better , we cannot live as the world lives because we are not of the world and I refuse to believe anything more of the bible and anything less because truth. I appreciate your comments about the Almighty God and God bless because it was very much appreciated

The Centrist Gorilla Think of the most good looking human being in your imagination and times it by infinity. This is the closest you can get to imagining what God looks like.
Isaac Matthews When I was a Christian I always believed god to be basically pure energy. The idea that he is anything like a human is just weird? Why would he have a mouth if there is no food in heaven?
The Centrist Gorilla Well He definitely has a mouth as He took human form in Christ Jesus, who did eat and drink. But the image of God thing that I think you're referencing isn't necessarily a physical description. I recommend The Bible Project's "Image of God" video if you're genuinely interested or curious about the topic. God bless!
I am starting to really get that the sin nature of humanity is really the deeply rooted illness of our hearts that lead us to move further further away from God. Thank you for the video!
SUPER helpful and insightful!!! Thanks so much Tim and John and your team for putting these out!!
It’s in Genesis 39:9 not in Genesis 37:9.😊

Thank you. This video is amazing and a blessing.
"Sin is about more than just doing bad things. It describes how we easily deceive ourselves, spin illusions to redefine our bad decisions as good ones." -This explains so much. Thank you.
this definitely something to meditate on.
Yes, so when we text and drive, endangering others, we have failed, and have sinned. We are not respecting human life and we humans are to respect life and we fall.short.
@@eeviraythat's a ridiculously inaccurate thing to describe as a sin.
Dear Bible Project,
Though I am not myself a Christian, I recently started feeling curious about the Bible as a historical artefact.
God has always been there with you brother. He wishes for you to be with him now. Ask questions, reflect, and love. To know real love is to know god.
Very interesting! I hope you find answers to your questions and keep on asking them and God will give u the wisdom’s and answers! God bless and keep safe
May God open your eyes to see many more wonderful things. May you become a source of light to many in darkness
God bless you and your family.
Read Romans 6, 7 and 8 and ask God for true understanding! This way of living you describe is, though very common, FAR from what is 'normal' for Gods people. The Lord came to deliver us from sin, not just the consequences.

"Sin in the inability to judge weather we are succeeding or failing." This one was great.
So deep like what
sin means missing the mark. Grace means unmerited favor.

Wow! I like how you said "when you sin against people you sin against God." I love the Bible project! Blessings to you guys!
Keierra ReeNell but they never said what sin was.. Do you know exactly what sin is?

JUDAH RISE simple they said sin is missing a set goal or mark but in the biblical sense it’s simply missing God’s set mark or goal and that is to be a living sacrifice unto the Lord
Vlogs by DeeJay No brother it's breaking God's *laws* 1John3:4 so to not sin we have to be keeping God's laws

This will never be on trending. Real God is not trending.
But its not.........
Christianese xD
Jim
Ps-My comments aren’t posting on apples podcast app for some reason, so apologies for randomly bringing it up in comments to this video (which I also thought was great!)
ManPlan. The illustration of Joseph giving in to Potiphars wife is just inside his head when he is analyzing that it is sinful to give in to Potiphars wife.

Been struggling with how to explain the concept of sin to a non-believer friend of mine. This is perfect, thank you!
@@SOMAnxg I know it's been three months, but I'm going to answer you anyway:
I think you assume too much (to borrow your turn of phrase).
Sin doesn't separate people from God. It causes God to come closer.
Andrew Kibler So we should sin more? :-)
+Bible Illustrated
No, because sinning is utter hell to deal with.
Peace!
Sin is to “miss the mark” or to “fall short of the goal”.
Uh, you mean like,the video,said??
So is "shortcomings" a more fitting translation?
I would put forth this; Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words don’t translate easily, have a multitude of possible translations and that was intentional. This provokes discussion and deeper study which if done with an open mind gives a greater understanding.

4:57 This. This is why I enjoy seeing where our English words our derived from. Even when you think you may know everything there is to do with God and the Bible, you are hit with something profound.
If we were to take the original meaning of the word “sin” to be failure, we can look at 1 Peter 2:22-24 as such:
“He committed no ‘failures’... yet he carried our ‘failures’ in his body on the cross, so that we might die to our ‘failures’ and live to do what is right.”

We used this video to help teach a lesson at my church, God bless all of you!
You are so so right. Thank you.
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do...

You do realize that all of this is based on man made mythology that is historically inaccurate and contains the outdated vile subjective morals of racist misogynistic primitives right?

Thank you for pursuing this project. I love how you are using a double entendre for this series; teaching us about the Bible's bad words, sin, iniquity and transgression.
Khata
Your work on the Khata project (and the NT equivalent Hamartia) is beautiful even though the subject matter is so grave. The image of sin as a roaring lion coming after Cain filled my imagination. You're team is so gifted at breaking ideas down into such elegant categories and then illustrating the implications of those ideas with immense creativity. Thanks!
Avon
I am very much looking forward to seeing the way you teach us about the OT word Avon (iniquity or crookedness) and the equivalent NT word epithumia (lust or inordinate desire). So much of our pain in life seems to come from this deep place in our hearts to have some false good satisfy us when, in fact, it is only the person of God that can fill our empty spaces. So, looking forward to the way you treat this word.
Pasha
I know that in places like Psalm 51:1-2 and Isaiah 59:12, we see the three sin words together: "For our transgressions (Pasha-rebellions) have been multiplied before Thee, and our sins (Khata-broken laws) have testified against us, for our transgressions are with us, and our iniquities (Avon-twisted desires) -- we have known them (Is 59)." So if Khata is missing the target, Pasha (rebellion or transgression) seems to be a willful rebellion that includes going after the wrong target.

The Praying Christian yeah God gave us humans a way to come into his kingdom without sin dragging behind us
One thing the they joseph failed to sleep the wife of another therefore failed to honor God by denying her of something, but that is so morally incorrect idk what to say about he says he sins against God by committing adultery as far as i know, not by denying her of sex so they or somebody needs to clear that up.
Came as soon as I saw the notification. Love the video as usual.
Same here.
you understand and learn so much in a small amount of time this is a true blessing
In kurdish we have the same word "khata" and it means fault🤔.
Interesting. We Jews and Kurds are closer than we think. Shalom!

@@raphaelalbert8110 yea and alot of kurds migrated to Israel when it was established as a country.
Same in Hindi/Urdu, except the meaning is closer to "sin" than "fault".
In arabic its close too!
I'm just getting ready to finish up my first year of being a 6th grade CCD teacher. I've shown my class many of your videos this year. It's been an amazing help to me so thanks for that! 😊 ❤️ 🙏
CCD, the Catholic Church Doctrine
Thank you for this! I'm not a Christian but this was a good informative video and definitely helped me reframe my mind on what "sin" is
You can give God a chance.
Being a christian is one of the best things that has happened to me.
I rest in the peace and joy of God now just because of my little faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus.
It's the perfect place to be.
I'm encouraging you to try it☺️.
Thank you guys, you should do this in Spanish too! You guys are a real blessing !
I love the detail of the man making a hasty decision by throwing his map away in the middle of nowhere thinking he can find his way only to get lost
I really love and appreciate your work ❤❤ Thank you kindly.
This helps me alot with learning hebrew and biblical hebrew thank you guys so much for making these videos.
This is awesome, can't wait to hear the podcast!!
Absolutely phenomenal video. Brilliant. Naturally entered into a deep flow-state, vigorously processing everything. Thank you
Wooooooord. This is such a vital series. Thanks for redeeming these words for the wider world.
-Brandon
can't explain how much i love whoever made this video, thank you and God bless you.
So profound and true.. I hope many can understand this.... Very important
That was AWESOME GUYS! Powerful message ❤
I 😍😘😍you.
BibleProject, awesome content
Growing up I was lied to about what sin includes.
I came to this understanding on my own and before I returned to Jesus. It was as if God and Jesus were secretly helping me heal my trauma so I could return.
Praise be. 🎉
God bless you. Thank you for helping us understand more about the bible
Very important word, but LOVE covers multitude of sins.
Its a delight to be on a journey throughout the Bible with you guys! The animation is so good, I cant admire it enough :) Thank you,God bless.
oh my gosh enjoy the dang video and shut up please😒
Define love
So real love your work God bless you guys
God bless you guys! You guys are so clear with things and spread the gospel in such a unique way!

Found this channel yesterday and I watches one video and I Loved it then I saw so plenty of videos that I have no idea which to choose
I think this is the best bible Christian channel ever
Except if you have accepted Jesus' sacrifice on the cross for all your Khata! 😁
God has already judged. He didn't judge us, he judged the "prince of this world", which is satan.
He already judged us. His verdict is that, sin is the culprit and not us.
You are wrong.
Bible project and Cross Examined never fail to teach me new things ❤️🌟🕊
True
Fantastic illustration
Thank you TBP, for helping all made in YaHWeH’s Image, to understand this complex but awesome Word gifted to us! We are so fortunate to have The Bible and Blessed to have TBP to help us examine and comprehend what was written in a different language to a greatly different culture. May YaHWeH continue to Bless The Bible Project!
deez guy of course! ❤️
The Centrist Gorilla
Well He definitely has a mouth as He took human form in Christ Jesus, who did eat and drink. But the image of God thing that I think you're referencing isn't necessarily a physical description. I recommend The Bible Project's "Image of God" video if you're genuinely interested or curious about the topic. God bless!
That was great. Nice breakdown. The Hebrew "khata" is the same word in Haitian Kreyol for evil. Great job either way guys.
That was the most beautiful breakdown I've ever heard
What a great message. Thank you.
I always confess what I have done to God........this is just a good reminder of what it is
the sound effects are insane, well done
Very cool study; I highly enjoy your videos and style you do with sharing the good Word and explanations in it. God bless yours and you all! :)
Thank you so much! please keep making these videos!!!
bruh. how do you just do so well at conveying stuff. amazing.
Wow, wonderful word study, thanks very much for making these available to all, God Bless:)
I am starting to really get that the sin nature of humanity is really the deeply rooted illness of our hearts that lead us to move further further away from God. Thank you for the video!
This one video actually encapsulates the whole Bible!
Kudos to you! I like all your videos. They break Bible down in simplistic bites. Thank you!
This video is so well made and thank you so much for creating this beautiful message! It helps me so much to understand God and faith!
SUPER helpful and insightful!!! Thanks so much Tim and John and your team for putting these out!!
"Unfortunately most of the time humans sin in the Bible they either don't know it or they think they're succeeding!
Sin is more than just doing bad things but how we easily deceive ourselves by spinning illusions to redefine our bad decisions as good ones!!!😲☹️😞😭
This truly highlights how INCREDIBLY GOOOOOOOD The Good News of Jesus coming to take our sins is❣️❣️❣️😁😁☺️☺️
Literally love you guys fr
Thank You Bible Project for your wonderful effort ...
